Macclesfield Town v Torquay United 27/1/18

Yorkieandy wrote: 27 Jan 2018, 19:40 So you cannot substantiate your claim then? Or you think you can but just can't be bothered to find the evidence. It's there though isn't it? Like you say.

Anyway, even if i suggested that any fan who didn't boycott was an idiot which i'd like to also see that post too, then that would be calling them idiots for the act of not boycotting and not because they are idiots for being fans of TUFC.

Don't jump in and start flinging stuff around just because you don't like me. It's called online bullying.

You are one of the posters i respect on here Jeff because of your in depth knowledge of lower / non league players and you are a sensible bloke. I'm the opposite and if i've overstepped the mark and done my own online bullying then i'll admit to it and apologize but i'm not accepting this.
Online bullying? Behave yourself! This started because you told another poster to “wind his neck in” and I told you to wind yours in. People in glass houses and all that.

I used to respect your point of view Andy, but unfortunately you lost that respect from me when you changed your allegiance to York and quite gleefully told us all. Now its all boycotts and Phoenix clubs. You are entitled to your opinion, and if you don’t mind I’ll ignore it as I don’t agree.

Now I’m going to enjoy a rare Saturday evening where Torquay didn’t lose. I won’t bother saving you a space on the terrace at Hemel Hempstead next season

I’ve got better things to do than go back through your thousand posts a day of drivel to pull out one quote, but it was something along the lines of calling any fan who doesn’t boycott an idiot

FT 1-1. Nobody predicted that so in isolation a decent result, but it needs to be a stepping stone to a run of form otherwise its irrelevant.

Wasn't all that tasty for us last season though! 4 goals for Blissett, 2 for Williams up until Blissett left (albeit they didn't play together that much)

He can rest on the way home.
Who said anything about needing a rest? More to do with him not knowing tactics (you can save the snipe about GO not having any tactics as we are all thinking it anyway).

Away from home against top of the table, quite understandable to go with an extra man in midfield and tris to get them on the break. Let’s be honest, we aren’t going to slice through them like butter whether Williams is in the team or not. Expect he’ll be on early in the second half once we go behind

Given that he signed fairly late yesterday, you realise that Williams won’t have trained with the club yet? I imagine he probably travelled straight up to Macc and met the team there. Hardly surprising that he’s not in from the start.

Still, don’t let logistics get in the way of some furious ranting though.

Brett is Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plainmoor78 wrote: 26 Jan 2018, 18:02 Most people were slagging him off to high heaven last season.

I’ll admit I was amongst that contingent, but mainly because we played a system that needed him to work hard in tracking back and that doesn’t suit his style. So he looked worse than he actually was. It’s a bit like we never complained that Benyon didn’t track back much as we were more successful when he was around.

From what people said last week Romain seemed to put in the hard yards, so let him doing the running about tracking back and let Williams do what he does best in the final third

Jerry wrote: 26 Jan 2018, 18:45 He did receive a response from the club.
See it’s stuff like this that makes it just not feel right to me. It’s being pedantic I know, but Sturrock has been in the game long enough to be able to understand the different roles in a football club - and the different between who is the Head Coach and who is the Director of Football. Might be a simple slip of the keyboard or misunderstanding, but you’d think he’d be clued up enough to know who is who and in what role.

OK - people have said it’s definitely him and I have no evidence to say otherwise. But from what I’ve seen of Sturrock in interviews etc this whole approach just doesn’t seem like what I’d expect from him

Damon Lathrope Leaves to Woking

Struggled for form and fitness, was never as good again as he was in our successive playoff defeats.

I’m sure he will rejoice when he no doubt scores his first goal at Plainmoor when Woking come to visit

sgf wrote: 26 Jan 2018, 14:30 Jeff,

I would suggest you ignore this thread if you are not convinced! Dave and others have verified it - that's good enough for me. If I was Luggy, I would be a bit put out by your sniping. I think any help is good help at the moment don't you?

Cheers Luggy.....
I couldn’t really care less whether Sturrock is put out by my comments. If he didn’t want to know, don’t put it on a public forum where people can pass comment.

For the record, I would have no problem with Sturrock offering his help if he conducted himself professionally. It should have been kept behind closed doors.

Let’s look at it like this. A sequence of events:

- Sturrock offers his services to TUFC
- TUFC decline his offer

Now whether they were right to decline it is a matter for debate. Sure extra help would have been good, but Sturrocks last gig at Yeovil was hardly as success. The above events should have been where it all ended, not further discussion needed. What I don’t like is that Sturrock has added the next event in the sequence;

- having been told “thanks but no thanks” by TUFC, Sturrock takes to the internet to make public his offer and the fact it was rejected.

That, for me, is just destabilising things and undermining the manager (who admittedly is undermining himself anyway via matters on and off the pitch). Any conversations like that should go on behind closed doors, between professionals. As it is, he’s gone public and for you lot in a froth and given more ammunition to rant at the club.

I wonder what some people on here would do if they didn’t have Torquay United to bitch about every 2 minutes

Need Help

CP - this is what I don’t get. Sturrock worked with Harrop for 6 months, but yet can’t contact him directly himself and has to go via a fans forum to do it???? Doesn’t make any sense. If they didn’t have a positive relationship when they worked together before, then it’s unlikely that Harrop would accept Sturrocks invitation now. Whether that is the right thing to do by the fans is irrelevant as we don’t make the decisions.

In earlier postings “Sturrock” has said he has made contact with the club and they haven’t followed him up on his offers. Whether GO thinks he needs help or not, the Club has said no. How is bleating over a fans forum going to change their minds? It’s a wholly unprofessional way of going about things

The whole notion of this makes me cringe. I’m still sceptical of how genuine it is (well aware that people have said that it is, but it just doesn’t sit right with me), and it’s just such an incredibly unprofessional way about conducting yourself.

I just can’t subscribe to the fact that Paul Sturrock - a genuine football man - would take to a fans forum to conduct himself. And if he has contacted the Club and they’ve not taken up on his offer, then unfortunately no means no (whether that is the best course of action in the fans view or not).

EDIT - just to further my scepticism, a quick google and Wikipedia search reveals that Sturrock managed Luke Young at Argyle (albeit Young was still an apprentice then), released Liam Davis from Yeovil and signed Jack Compton (who was subsequently signed by Gary Owers for Bath and was allegedly a subject of a 7-day approach from us). Yet despite having had some sort of professional relationship with all these players and their agents, his only way of contacting someone at TUFC is via here? Not having it.
