Well, he did "win" a far post header at Maccy for the Morris goal, so stranger things have happened :na:Alpine Joe wrote:There's more chance of Danny Stevens winning a header than the Gulls picking up 15 points during February.
Of course I'd love to be wrong :rules:

Re: What Team do you think is better?
This is obviously a bit of a moot point given we are playing a more or less 4-3-2-1 this season compared with usually 4-4-2 last season, so within those parameters, direct comparison in each position is suspect. However if we are going to stay with 4-3-2-1, i would certainly have Branston, Stanley and Zebs in it, in place of Ellis, Oastler and Morris/Bodin. A midfield three of Stanley, Lathrope and O'Kane looks like a good balance of attacking flair with the necessary steel as well. I dont think anyone could argue that Bobby seems to be consistently better than Bevs (although to be fair to Bevs, the defence in front of him at Brizzle was pretty shambolic).
Its all conjecture of course, as the better team will be viewed through history's eyes as that which had the better record over the 46 games.

I get the same feeling on this subject.Trojan 67 wrote:It looks like one of those long nights in on the computer trying to get through to someone (without success) who is too deaf to see and too blind to hear . . . .
One with greater resources had a side constantly "over achieving" (utter b*ll*cks)
So again, I suggest you read my opening post and tell me just how, given the financial strength last season compared to the likes of Bradford, Shrewsbury and the other clubs with higher income streams and budgets, its was "utter b*ll*cks" to say we didnt overachieve? Not just us but also Accy and Stevenage who also, compared to the big budget clubs already mentioned, were certainly "punching above their weight", just the same as we were.
Ive obviously put the pertinent bits for you in bold but I fail to see how anyone in their right mind can say we didnt overachieve last season, given our budget in comparison to the likes of Northampton, Oxford and the like, that we finished above. That hardly makes it "utter bollox" does it??
And you can also add to that the fact that, compared to the already mentioned clubs, we appear to be "punching above our weight" yet again this season as well as last season. Unless you think that's utter bollox as well?

If you read the post again, its says at the start of the season. When did Stanley etc. come to us last season?

Re: Ling v Buckle
Comparing the budgets at different clubs for a manager is fatuous at best. We were discussing the budget at Torquay in case it slipped your attention, not Bristol Rovers.forevertufc wrote:To me i dont not think it matter's one bit what player budget Paul Buckle was working on when he first took over as our manager, or how much it was reduced by or when, i dont even think it matter's if Martin Ling is working off a smaller budget as TUFC manager than Paul Buckle ever did.
The player budget that Paul Buckle would have been working on at Bristol Rovers would have been some way bigger than he ever had here at Torquay, and massive compared to what Martin Ling is working on here now at Torquay.
If you then look at not only the results and team performances that we have enjoyed this season but also the way Martin Ling has gone about his conducting his buisness as Tufc Manager, and then compare that to the the results and performances and the way Buckle conducted himself at Bristol Rovers, all roads lead back to there still being only one winner.
Martin Ling every time.

How much has the budget for the season been reduced by? Enough to sign more players on contracts than we had the start of last season.Trojan 67 wrote:
Fryer Tuck, you appear to have forgotten the further reduction in budget this season.
Now, tell me we aren't doing better in comparison.
The one with the greater resources was bigging himself up, the greater one on reduced resources is doing his job simply and effectively.
Doing better by comparison will be judged at the end of the season.
Will we make the playoffs? Will we go one better than last season? Hopefully yes, but if not, then the history book will show how well each manager has performed.

Re: Ling v Buckle
You appear to have forgotten the budget reductions that occured in the last two seasons. It was well publicised that the budget was cut mid season in our first season back in the league (hence the need to move players on before bringing in replacements for them), and then again (presumably for the CE's pay off) last season. Anyone that thinks the previous manager had more than a "mid table" budget in terms of what the other clubs in the league were spending is well wide of the mark. In that respect, to reach the playoff final last season compared to the likes of Rotherham, Shrewsbury, Oxford, Bradford etc and what they could spend on the player budget, we were "punching above our weight" (to coin a phrase), just as Accy Stanley were. Have a look at how many teams last season had an income stream supported by an over 4000 average attendance last season http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/D ... 26,00.html and then tell me we didnt do better than we had a right to expect in comparison.Trojan 67 wrote:One with greater resources had a side constantly "over achieving" (utter b*ll*cks) while the greater one on reduced resources has the pwoper nous to get his side performing to its full potential.

Re: Grandstand update
Dont know where you were standing but it certainly wasnt jammed at the Ellacombe end of the pop side in the 1st half. It got fuller in the 2nd half as it always does when we're attacking that end but thats down to people moving at half time, leaving the resultant space down towards the Babbacombe end.cambgull wrote:Supposedly, our current capacity is around the 5,000 mark.
If this is correct, then an extra 1,750 should take us to a total of 6,750.
Highlighted by the Swindon game, I don't know about anyone else, but I was pretty cramped in the Popside while the Family Stand was sold out and the Away end was full to the brim too. Could we realistically get another 1,000 people into the stadium?
This is a bit worrying really as if we can't hit the capacity without it being REALLY uncomfortable, should we just scrub off 1,000 from the capacity from the outset and stop fooling ourselves?!

There were a few seats left in the family stand when i picked mine up this morning (by a few it looked like single figures from the seat plan they've got in reception)Neal wrote:Anyone know if the game is all ticket.
I guess the popside isnt, but what about the family stand.
And thirdly, any predictions on attendance, hahaha only because i want to delay my journey until the last minute

Nope, cant help you there DB. All I could see was an Accrington player sliding in to a ball, collecting Rene Howe in the process, and a bunch of rolling around theatrics afterwards from the Accrington player. Sorry, but I'm utterly baffled here.

Would you be meaning the above post?ferrarilover wrote:So, having shown your comparison to be invalid, we move on to the actual point of my post, which was to demonstrate that, despite the cost (which I appreçiate is high) we MUST stay overnight for matches, because when we don't, we always play in the awful, disjointed, influid manner we showed last night.
If so, what bit of
orWhats the excuse for Bradford, Shrewsbury and Southend this season then
do you have a problem understanding?Wycombe, Oxford or Bury last season (good performances without staying overnight)?
They are quite clearly understandable examples of a) not playing well when we stayed overnight & b) playing well when we travelled on the day, both of which clearly show your assertion to be total hoop (no change there then)
