Re: Leeds United pre season game at Plainmoor

Looks like your new stand is open for our game.
once again thankyou torquay utd for a sensible approach in the allocation of tickets.
as for the ones who are bitter and twisted about leeds fans having half of the ground, get over it and think of the money your lovely little club will make.
regards.

MidDevon wrote:I still do not understand this fantastic support claims, Leeds got less than 20,000 at home to Peterborough and yet got 33,000 against West Ham.

Almost all home games last season saw them struggle to get 22,000 to 23,000 (including away fans) meaning Elland Road is normally only 2/3rds full.....that must look pathetic for football at that level......to think such a well supported club....yet you can no doubt just turn up on the day and pay

This makes Bradford City's 11,000 average home gate very impressive and really they should claim to be Yorkshire's sleeping giant
i wonder if bradford citys £100 as against our £700 season tickets as anything to do with it?

1,000s of leeds fans are boycotting elland rd until old beaver face as gone.

away fans at elland rd were also very few with the ikes of millwall bringing just 103 fans.
price for away fans £36 adults £29 pensioners £25 children.
in fact we are the fifth most expensive club in english football.
a bloody joke considering we have had no investment on the pitch.

anyway make sure you have plenty of beer and pies as us fat burly leeds fans need fuel to watch the rubbish we put up with.

FACT, they took less than 2000 to Bristol City last time out, which is shameful when compared to Torquay's away support pro rata

....in fact it has often been said that the average True Yorkshire man.....was born in Guildford!

They are all cockney's really!

i feel i have to educate you young man.

if bristol city give us a maximum allocation of 1800 tickets leeds will have less than 2,000 at the game. :slap:

Re: Leeds United pre season game at Plainmoor

Well it seems that some of you need to eat a bit of humble pie.
you have given us another 500 tickets to make 2,000 in total.
i suspect its not enough to satisfy all that want to attend, but i dont expect we will get anymore.
now who were the ones saying we would get 1100 or so ??????

a big thankyou to t.u.f.c. for having the foresight to give us a good allocation. :-D

cambgull wrote: No they don't, they find it hilarious that you were in League 1. Most genuine United fans would rather see your club bust before they see you back in the Premiership
That worked...
Erm... well we've already had a comment on the board from someone about an event which showed Leeds fans weren't so hard. I won't mention it as it's a horrible situation but you can't be that hard. Also, West Ham and Millwall can't win their fights every time. Are you forgetting the times they gave you a kicking?
I highly doubt that a football club from the 70's involving scumbags like Bremner played football like Barcelona do. The difference in skill is gargantuan.
Well yes, that's right. They are a team in our league. Well done, you win the prize! I'd rather beat them than beat you guys because they give us 3 points, you'll just start fights in our pubs because you're a bunch of knuckledraggers.
Banter is having a laugh and a joke with people but it has to be obvious that you're joking, which is why it very rarely works on the internet, especially when the person trying to banter has the ability of a Gnat with the English language. I'm sure in person it will be much easier to have a bit of banter with a beer in hand.

i think you best read this if you dont think man uts are leeds rivals.

Re: Leeds United pre season game at Plainmoor

ferrarilover wrote:Ok, Lancaster, you're a Leeds United fan, so that shows you up immediately as a retard, so I'm going to make this nice and simple for you to understand.

No one here gives a toss about you or your club, how many supporters you have, how 'amazing' that support is or that you think you're a 'bigger' club than Birmingham City. We are Torquay United fans, we dislike Exeter and Plymouth and some of us have a mild disdain for Bristol Rovers and Northampton Town. If you want to go shouting about how many supporters you have, I suggest that Manchester United, with their 78,000 all seater stadium would have something to say about the Elland Road Massive. If you want to talk about being amazing supporters, then I suggest you're in the right place. It's easy following Leeds about, right in the middle of the country, easy links to everywhere, loads of coaches organised by the club etc. Try being a Torquay fan on a freezing Tuesday night in January when you have to take two days off work just to get to Burton Albion away, which in itself is a 5 hour trip. If you want to talk about history, then visit Real Madrid. If you want to talk about hard, then visit West Ham, or Millwall. If you want to talk about present success, then take a wander over to European Champions Chelsea. If you want a chat about the standard of your football, Barcelona is your destination. If you want to talk about rivalry, Argentina is your boy, for River Plate and Boca Juniors. Face it, you're not the best at anything, you mean sod all to us, and we really aren't going to be impressed by anything you can bring to the table, because at every turn, we can each readily think of at least one other club that does it better.

See you on <insert friendly date here>, with your 999 friends and no more. Please do try to buck the trend and not behave like a complete bellend, which seems always to be a side effect of wearing or indeed merely possessing a Leeds United shirt.

Matt.

ill try and answer you as honest as i can mathew.

scum (man utd) fans want leeds back in the prem as they see us as major rivals along with city and liverpool.

real madrid........don revie changed our kit to all white because he wanted us to be the real madrid of england.

hard........west ham and millwall you avin a larfffff . lufc have kicked their arses more than once in their own backyards, and ive been their to witness it.

standard of football.....barcelona remind me of the best english club side leeds united in the 70s.

as for meaning owt to little torquay united ffs morecambes more your standard.

i came on this site to have a bit of banter but i cant believe how far you lot are up your own @rses.
i pray that the majority of your fans are not like that in real life as we are really looking forward to a fantastic weekend in torquay having a beer a laugh and a bit of football thrown in.

Re: Leeds United pre season game at Plainmoor

Some of you need to chill out, its only a pre-season friendly and remember we will be giving your club some much needed funds with our support.
now you say you have had big clubs down in torquay in the past. who q.p.r.? burnley? bristol city?
i think you will find leeds united are on a completely different level when it comes to travelling support.
you will only have to see the flags on display to see that leeds fans will have travelled from all sides of the uk.

just to give you some idea the pre season thread on our fans forum as had over 17,000 hits.
look forward to seeing you soon say hello if you see our lancaster whites flag flying outside some pub.

Re: Leeds United pre season game at Plainmoor

selkie wrote:I fancy going to this game, I have never seen Leeds play at Plainmoor which is hardly surprising as it was in 1955 when we made our one and only visit.

I have done a little research and I am not able to find even a friendly game taking place in Torquay between our two sides.

The game we did play at Plainmoor was a third round FA Cup game on the 12th January 1955 when we were turned over 4-0 after a 2-2 draw at Elland Road. Torquay could even have prevented that visit to Plainmoor by us as they were 2-0 up at Elland Road but we managed to pull it back to 2-2 with the legendary John Charles getting a 70th minute equaliser. In the replay things could not have got off to a worse start for us when right back Dunn miscued a clearance allowing Sam Collins to score a first minute goal. It was almost an hour though before Torquay increased their lead. Again Dunn was involved as a Harold Dobbie shot deflected off him into the net. The third goal was a shot from Ron Shaw across the face of the goal which bounced in off the far post and the rout was completed on 88 minutes when ex Leeds player Don Mills tapped in the fourth.

The crowd that day was 11,429 with gate receipts of £1,329 that is an average price per ticket of just less than half a crown, that is 2s 6d or 12.5 pence in today’s money. A programme at Leeds nowadays costs 32 times that.

Don Mills was one of I think only 7 players who have played for both clubs. Torquay had sold him to QPR on the 1st January 1950 for £12,500 which was a massive amount in those days he had made 34 appearances for Torquay. QPR then sold him to Cardiff a year later for £12,000 before Leeds picked him up for nothing 7 months later. He played 37 games for us before Torquay got him back on the 1st December 1952 also for free and he went on to play another 308 games for Torquay.

The other players to play for us both are Wallace Clark in the 1920’s, Bobby Webb in the 1950’s, Tony Currie in the 70’s for Leeds and 80’s for Torquay and more recently in the 1990’s Lee Sharpe, Paul Pettinger and Mark Ford.

Back to the present last season Leeds had the largest travelling support in the Championship with an average of 3106. Leeds will travel in force to Plainmoor they will drink, they will be friendly, they will have a good time and fill the local coffers. With the game being on a Friday that will boost the attendance as those that will travel from Leeds will only need one day of work. Plenty of others will be making a week of it and there will be the local Leeds fans also to bolster our numbers. I would be surprised if we could not shift 1300 tickets with the added ingredient of it being a new ground for most.We sold 3000 for a friendly in Falkirk and 3500 for a game in Norway last year.

I wish you good luck in the play-offs and will see you in July.

Finally NewtonGull you are a gent, with a clear and correct perception of what is right and wrong acceptable and unacceptable.
i feel i have to correct you.
i went to flakirk which was an evening game and around 800 leeds attended.
on the saturday we travelled to motherwell were around 2,000 leeds attended.
ill go along with the 3,500 in norway.
i expect around 2,000 leeds in torquay.
regards.
