Let’s not get too carried away
I do understand the point which you are making, but I think that today is probably not the time to make it.

Let’s not get too carried away
There were still 21 other teams from the region competing and Torquay deservedly won the title. It had to be earned and was not handed to the Gulls on a plate - goals still had to be scored and defended at the same time. I totally agree with Wokingham Gull and Dannyrvtufc4life - enjoy the achievement because it may not happen again for many years (though I hope not !).

Well said Wokingham Gull - good to see another fan just 3 miles away in the town where my wife worked until last year.

Congratulations from Forest Green Rovers !!!
I am fine thanks Dave, though my trips to football over the last 3 or 4 years were largely limited by work and other commitments. What a fantastic season for Torquay and what a good move to get rid of Gary Owers and get such a superb manager in. Let's hope he stays with you for many seasons.
What a brilliant season for the Gulls and a very well-deserved title win !

My pleasure Jane. I wasn't able to make it to any Gulls games this season (only seen FGR once this season), but have now retired, so much more time on my hands now. I have had a huge smile on my face all afternoon following the scores and especially pleasing to see Woking losing at Chelmsford so that the title race could be decided today. Will definitely try to see some games next season and get down to Plainmoor too.

Having a huge soft spot for The Gulls, I want to be the first to congratulate you on a brilliant National League South title win and top marks to GJ, all the players, staff and the fans.
It is so good to see Torquay United on an upward trajectory again after all the trials and tribulations of the last few years and I hope it won't be too long before you are joining us again in League Two, where you so rightfully belong. I have always enjoyed the entertaining high scoring matches between us and although we have been fortunate to have Dale Vince putting a lot of money into the club, we have also had a great season (regardless of what happens in the play offs) and will hopefully consolidate our position in League Two.
Have a brilliant evening, celebrate in style, enjoy the trophy presentation when it happens and have a great summer once the season is over - no fans deserve it more than you do !

Final Game - North Ferriby @ 12:15
Just got in from our meal out and seen the result - FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so pleased that Torquay have stayed up and it sounds like a well-deserved win - absolutely delighted !!!
Even we at FGR managed to draw at York, so think we did our bit to help you guys along, but you didn't really need our help at all. Fingers crossed that we can get past Dagenham over two legs this next week and make it to Wembley again, though I am not optimistic.
Have a great night down there and a huge well done to Kevin Nicholson, the whole team and all the supporters.

Final Game - North Ferriby @ 12:15
We've been invited out to lunch by some friends tomorrow, but even so, the nerves will be kicking in for me, and even as an FGR fan, I have such a soft spot for TUFC that I will be very upset if they go down. Our match against York City is impossible to predict sadly - we have been so inconsistent, winning when I least expect us to and then having some absolute shockers, like losing at home to North Ferriby United and away to Southport.
Please don't take a win against North Ferriby for granted, although our home defeat against them was more because of us playing very badly than anything special that they did, and was only our second home defeat of the season (the other was against Lincoln, where we blew a 2-0 lead towards the end and conceded the winner late in stoppage time). We hammered them 3-0 when we played at North Ferriby. Against Southport, we simply didn't turn up at all, yet we had beaten Tranmere away just six days earlier. It is very difficult to predict which FGR will turn up tomorrow, though I feel deep down that we should at least get a draw. I think that Braintree will definitely not beat Aldershot and will go down, but the Guiseley match is hard to predict and I will keep my fingers crossed that Solihull Moors beat them.
I imagine I'll be thinking about the matches throughout lunch and it will all be over before I see the results, but I truly believe (and hope) that United will do it by beating North Ferriby and that we can help you out by winning at York.
Come on you Yellows !!!!!
Good luck guys.

Dover Athletic v Torquay United 22/4/17
What a great result and my fingers are firmly crossed for TUFC next weekend. However, do be careful - we at FGR managed to lose 1-0 at home to North Ferriby United and also lost 2-0 away at Southport, so the teams at the bottom won't just roll over. Mind you, FGR give us all as many anxious moments as the Gulls do and for all the wrong reasons too !
There will be a massive smile on my face next week should Torquay stay up (and I think they will). Very best of luck to the Yellows !!!

If that is definitely the case, then a win today would see Torquay safe, assuming that Guiseley lose. When Boreham Wood play Guiseley, at least one of the sides will drop at least 2 points, and therefore, they both could not overtake the Gulls - one would be at least 1 point short of the 50, and so safety would be sure... I think.....OllieGull wrote:I think technically we might be safe if we win, not sure if this is right or I'm massively confused. Next week Boreham Wood (44 pts) play Guiseley (46 pts), so if Boreham Wood win, they'll go up to 47 points leaving Guiseley on 46 points which leaves them 4 behind us going into the final day. Likewise a draw or loss for Boreham will leave them 5 or 6 points behind us. All of this of course is based on us not winning another point.

All it needs is for Aldershot to equalise and the other games to stay the way they are - then safety is mathematically secure.Orange Gull wrote:Boreham Wood 2-1 up. Even if we win this, we still aren't mathematically safe after today.
