UNCLE CLARKES RADIO DEVON INTERVIEW

chunkygull wrote: 20 Apr 2018, 21:51 Coinciding with the article on BBC newspage, did anyone else hear the piece about the club on Radio Devon this morning. Gordon Sparkes actually seemed very smypathetic to our plight to be fair. Finally Clarke Osbourne granted the BBC a proper interview, there were interesting highlights played, I'm sure it said the full interview will be added to the BBC iplayer at two tomorrow.
There was also a good interview with Chris Fleet.

Andy does have a po0int though he didn't put it across very well. Fans giving money to a player whose career on the pitch is over. and that is the crux of the matter. it's only his football career that's over. they sometimes go on as if the guy has died. he is still capable of work in other areas. and able to earn a decent income. in fact many part-timers earn even better wages because they have a job outside the game. secondly. footballers are covered by insurance and there is a pension payout if their career ends. so they have a pretty decent pot to dip into. We can all come across hard times. I know that better than most. my health has dipped to levels I would never have expected when I played football. but there are no collections for me. not that I'm asking for one. but look at how the country generally treats disabled people. the genuine ones are being hammered. and many of the propaganda papers. are fuelling that with distorted news.
Looking back at the club years ago. Many had a right go at Mike Bateson. (i bet they would bite his hand off now) he had insults thrown at his family and nearly everyone couldn't wait to see the back of him. no wonder he got well and truly fed up propping us up. yet he cared. I remember lying in my hospital bed and having a personal card from him wishing me well. you wouldn't see that from Osbourne and co. I had loads of calls from the players too. made quite a few friends who are still in contact today. They had a heart. not now. journeymen who go from club to club, getting what they can. no Ian Twitchens now. no Kevin Hills, Kevin Nicolsons. Lee Mansell. and others.
it's such a shame when the attitudes of the millionaires are slowly percolating down to amateur levels. clubs are not exempt from criticism either

Hereford - NLN or NLS

merse btpir wrote: 24 Apr 2018, 16:04 Until the season is done and dusted ~ both above and below Hereford's current station ~ no-one will know for sure. But who accompanies them up from the Southern will be critical. If it is Kings Lyn then surely they will be place in national North but if it is Weymouth or Slough for instance then obviously not....Kettering? Hmmn. So we all have to wait and see.....but from a selfish point of view, not having Hereford as divisional rivals won't be a bad thing for Torquay United will it.

Nearby Gloucester were located in National North at one time and when they were returned to 'the south' it upset all their squad building [glow=red]and cost them a manager.[/glow] It is always easier traversing the motorway system up and down the country rather than across it as Hereford would have to do in a southern division.

Even though Gloucester is south of Hereford geographically; Gloucester City play at Evesham which is north of Hereford, so nothing is cut and dried until it happens.
Sorry to interrupt. But that assertion is totally incorrect.
The reason Tim Harris left was down to a spat with the board. Tim was quite happy to play in the National league south. he wasn't too happy with the transfer but he understood it and said we will do what we have to do and was getting on with it. but he has ambitions and he felt the board were not being straight with him or the fans. it's also the reason One ex-manager we know very well, ignored putting in for the job when Tim left. he phoned Tim and asked him for his thoughts and what Tim said put him right of going up there. The fans were not happy either and the position the club was in and how things were painted made it look like another Plainmoor situation which is not true in their case
It seems to have stemmed from lack of movement on the stadium in Hempstead. which is moving rather too slowly for some. It was meant to be finished for this season but at the moment. doesn't look as if it will be even started for next season. so Eamon McGurk is going to have to dig deep in his pockets to fund their season. they haven't done so badly this time around.
I'm of the opinion that National north is a tougher league and so better prepared for the next step up. and onward progression to full EFL status. but I'm willing to be proved wrong.

'mist of despair' - Club Statement

MellowYellow wrote: 24 Apr 2018, 14:04 Apparently, we are 'making real progress' and 'much more will be said in the coming days and weeks', so says Osborne. What else can be said - ticket prices are £1 a game, Torquay are signing Messi and Ronaldo? whatever it is, it better be good because I am getting feed up with the bull-shit this guy or should I say his PR man keeps regurgitating.

Sorry to disappoint you all.

Radio Devon next season

several teams in the NATIONAL NORTH and SOUTH have local bbc radio commentaries. Hereford. York. Telford. are just 3 that are given a good service. so there's no reason for Devon not to continue unless they don't think we are worth it.

DARTFORD FC Stadium. Princes Park is not only up to National league standard. it's at Least league two if not even league 1 standard. its new. covered on all sides and boasts green standards that even Forest Greens owner would envy.
Should Havant and Waterloo get promoted, Westleigh park is decent and has great accommodation for away fans. undercover and the acoustics are great for away fans.
you all know that Braintree's ground is up to standard
St Albans town. with the main stand looking like its pinched from the railway station is no stranger to gulls fans. and is up to standard
Hemel Hempstead's Vauxhall Road ground is recent.(1948) so should look decent as the main clubhouse and changing rooms burnt down in a fire in 1992 so they are new as are the covered terraces at both ends on the ground. the main stand is tiny as the stand on the opposite side of the ground. the two together only hold 300 and the overall capacity is only 3600.
Chelmsford's Melbourne stadium is actually an athletics stadia, not unlike Gateshead. but a lot smaller. capacity 3052. The main stand holds 1000 and is fairly new. covered accommodation opposite via a roof attached to a building backing onto the terrace. some covered accommodation at one end too.
nope. no danger of any of them being refused unless new regulations come into force. But i'm sure someone will come along to shoot me down and prover otherwise.

OK, so we are down. we can commiserate with the likes of Brechin City. the first British side to go down having not won a league match all season. the longest stretch for them was 16 defeats on the trots. and after that run, I suspect many of the supporters had trots too.
So we look forward. (well those who want to follow us after many have dropped off.) to trips to Weston-Super-Mare. Not sure where the ground is compared to the Railway station but close enough I can catch the train hopefully. Gloucester City. we up in Evesham. Hereford Utd. not sure if a bus can get me home after. Truro. assuming they don't go up. and Chippenham. Not sure about Poole but they did win today. I don't think we will win the league next year either. I'm still firmly of the opinion the plan is to run us down but make it look as if the opposite is happening.
I'm Surprised Mss Chamberlain stuck her head above the Parapet. she didn't exactly show much support for us in the end.
at least we did win the odd match. unlike Brechin. wow, their supporters must be the best in the land after that.
May predictions were not far off though, were they?

Was this the plan all along?

I bet if someone took a ride up to Port Talbot to find this so-called flatpack stadium it wouldn't exist. The land he proposed to build the Swindon Stadia on has now disappeared under a new development.
The stadium is now supposed to be built where the present one resides. and its supposed to go on while the track remains open. Yeah right. Swindon Robins are just as Likey to be put out of business before too long. despite them being current UK champions

This has been brought up before, and it's entirely feasible that he be seen to run the club above board well. while at the same time undermining the foundations of the club, to the point we fall so low down the Pyramid we become nothing more than a two-bit part-time pub team. unsustainable in any decent form. then we get wound up. the freehold is sold on. Osbourne snaps it up and the council get a nice short-term payday. we are forever lost with no chance of finding any place to play and end up in the history books. we saw that coming. it's relatively easy to make it look as if he is financing and running a club. but the proof is in the pudding. I think he is prepared to lose a fair amount of money to see us disappear and then he will swoop.

It's such a shame to see our club go so far down the pan. After the Barrow result we don't even look likely to claim 4th from bottom let along escape relegation. ive had to be realistic this time. we are already down. the best thing we can do is prepare ourselves for next season visiting Weston-Super-Mud. Gloucester at Evesham. Oxford City. Truro. Bath. Chippenham. Hungerford. Poole. at least they are a good day out. but just to let you know ive found these singing

Yep the fat lady has already started singing

Thee was a day when i dreamed a dream. But we got relegated instead. but like all Gulls supporters. I can still dream a dream

at least she is worth watching

Just a thought. but what would the chances be of the club going into administration now? could the owner do it? would there be any advantage to him? we are down anyway so a points deduction is of no consequence. but it would get rid of a large debt to Thea. and he could walk away laughing.
