So we get 12.5 K if we win. But do we not also get a decent cut of gate receipt money too as it is an FA cup tie..... do we get 20 - 40 % of any gate receipts (even) for away game ? .... if so, that is why it is particularly important to have a bit of success in the cup, and go on a bit of a run !!!!

Alfreton Town v Torquay United – Saturday 11th October 2014

IlshamSchmilsham wrote:To have concluded, presumably after a week of training and positional experimentation, that Courtney Richards ought to be able to man-mark Karl Hawley out of the game might not have been entirely fanciful. But in failing to act, when things were clearly going awry, and when an alternative option was available to him, the manager has demonstrated that he is either incredibly stupid or too stubborn to admit, mid-game, that he had made the wrong call. Neither attribute does him any credit, although the former is more forgivable in my view. In the process he may have shattered the confidence of two promising young players. Richards should hopefully recover fairly quickly, given an immediate return to midfield and the support of the home crowd, but it is difficult to see where Hutchings goes from here, given his manager's palpable lack of confidence in his abilities. If he did not merit selection in these circumstances then when? Is he our recognised defensive back-up or not? If not, what are we paying him for? All in all a very disappointing state of affairs, and one that appears from the outside to have been entirely avoidable. I hope that Hargreaves is strong enough, in the cold light of day, to concede this point. I for one will have considerably more respect for his managerial abilities if he can find it within himself to do so.

Wilshire is playing well in this new position....against Estonia I know......great ball for Rooney just now for instance. He's having to take quite a bit of stick and cheap hits from the Estonian midfield and isn't reacting which is good. He also seems to be staying on his feet better too, which is encouraging.

I would like to be seeing Oxlade-Chamberlain on instead of Delph though I think.

Gulls in Brum ??

After some searching I found a boozer in Brum to watch the game......wish I hadn't !

1st time I've seen the Gulls this year......other than the excellent highlights posted on FB.....so, although an obvious off day at the orifice ...... there are a few decent players in that team who could play well above this level in the future.......sort out the discipline....and we should walk into the play offs.....I would have thought......

Who transferred from Gargs to Gulls with John Uzzell

.....and talking of John Uzzell.

On 14 December 1991, while playing in a Third Division game for Torquay United at Plainmoor, suffered a fractured cheekbone and eye socket in a collision with Brentford striker Gary Blissett, who was subsequently charged with causing grevious bodily harm with intent. However, Blissett was cleared of the charge at Salisbury Crown Court on 3 December 1992

I hadn't seen this clip before, so I thought I'd post it. There is a good view of the old Popside in the background too.......

Who transferred from Gargs to Gulls with John Uzzell

...... it's OK, I found it on the internet. It was John (Melvin) Matthews.

Dave Smith signed the 33-year old at Torquay, along with John Uzzell who had also been released by Argyle. John played 25 times for the Gulls before being released at the end of the season.

Who transferred from Gargs to Gulls with John Uzzell

When John Uzzell transferred from the Gargs to Gulls in 1989, I'm sure another player transferred from them to us at the same time. Anyone remember his name ?

..... and in that 1st game John got badly tackled, and some comedian in the Popside shouted out: "......don't worry John, 'Uzzel' get 'um back for that ! "

Well. That made me laugh, then and now...........
