Thank you for your considered and thoughtful comments on tomorrow's opponents, Dave_Pougher. With observations like that it is no wonder that so many regard football supporters as beneath contempt. Oh, and if you really want to experience pissin (sic) rain I suggest you go and stand in the away end at Accrington Stanley on a wet day!
If you posted whilst under the influence, then please disregard my response. If, however, you posted it whilst sober then I guess you will, anyway.
You can vent your spleen however you want (and I guess that's what you consistently do) but if we had no opponents we wouldn't have a match.
Amazing that, on what some refer to as the kiddies site, there is someone who posts like a kiddie but still remembers Mansell!!
**** (usual spelling, as is shithole and counties).

Great article in 'When Saturday Comes' June 2019 issue
Yes, gillygull, my copy arrived to-day and a pleasant surprise to see the well-written article. It will be interesting to read the extent to which fans who went to the match recognise the description of the atmosphere etc. The River Plate v Boca Juniors comment brought to mind our old chant of "Brazil from the West Country".
Have subscribed to When Saturday Comes for years now as it certainly provides some alternative takes on what is otherwise a Premiership dominated media coverage of the sport. Its TV Watch column is often wryly amusing together with a usually well-informed Letters page.

NEW MANAGER GARY JOHNSON
Certainly exceeds my expectations as to who we were likely to attract. Not got an easy task by any means but at least now a glimmer of hope for the future.
Brucie, to use the old cliche "it takes one to know one". Something we can all now anticipate is the monotony throughout the season of you taking a negative approach to anything and everything GJ does.

With respect (and i do not mean that in a sarcastic way), SuperNW, the number of posts that Torkie has made is an irrelevance. I am not necessarily in agreement with either of you, but just because you have bothered to make just short of 4600 does not give any extra weight to your opinions compared to someone who has made far fewer. It simply tells us that you have had more time, inclination or ease of access to a computer to make your postings.
As it happens, having also been an exile from the sunny climes of home for too long, I am very much in agreement with Taxi Lady's points of view. My approach was always to try to see us when we played up north but also to watch the local team at times. So, when studying in Birmingham I used to watch the Blues, when I moved to Huddersfield I would sometimes go to watch the Terriers. When I returned to the west country, to Somerset, Plainmoor was again in striking distance so Yeovil was not an option. So, at times and in different ways, it could certainly be argued that i "supported" the Blues and the Terriers financially by paying my gate money and vocally encouraging them. Why? Simply because i couldn't get to Plainmoor that often and i wanted to watch live football. However, "MY" team has always Torquay. So, despite tending to still check on the results of the other 2 teams mentioned, there is only ONE team that I am ever committed to. I blame my parents for me being born in Shrublands and living in Watcombe
Oh and i don't apologise for making so few postings. I've obviously got one of those strange 5 minute gaps in my life this afternoon with nothing better to do with my time!

New sponsors?
Hector, just a thought. You indicated that you would prefer to wear a shirt which does not carry a sponsor's logo. I am at one with you there and a number of years ago purchased the excellent late 60s repro from TOFFS. Excellent quality and still going well into added time!! Last time i looked they offered a choice between the one i mentioned and the white one with the stripe trying to imitate a cross between a deckchair and (dirty) Leeds.

Mav, were you at the training session when he picked up the injury? Do you know exactly what the players were doing at the time? Do you know precisely how the injury occurred? Did you see it happen?
My own response to these questions would be "No" and i would therefore not be able to draw the conclusion that you have.
If you were there then i bow to your greater knowledge, if not how have you reached your conclusion? Players pick up knocks all the time in training and on match days. It happens.

Leaking of Confidential Information
So many posts on this topic have completely confirmed my views about the lack of intelligence and common courtesy of so many posters on this site. Yes, I know it's a forum and everyone has a right to express themselves as they wish (within certain limits). But just WHY is it that so many just seem to want to tear into anything that the club says or does in such a negative way? If anyone can be bothered you can read through the thread on the other site to see the origins of the statement - oh, and whilst you're there, how about reading some of the more considered views expressed. Not saying I necessarily agree with them all but unlike this site they don't attack with fangs bared from the off!
Is there no possibility that the club is entitled to a degree of privacy over when it releases information into the public domain? REGARDLESS as to whether or not it might influence the opposition's selection, there is a specific time at which the names of the players are revealed. Why would it matter to us, the supporters, whether we get the knowledge in advance of that? I remember a number of seasons ago travelling up to Carlisle and as he was leaving the hotel to travel to the ground I naively asked Leroy who was playing up front. He gave me a cold look (well, it was Carlisle, wasn't it?) and responded along the lines that he wouldn't be revealing that to the opposition manager until the appointed time, so why should he tell me? Fair comment and it showed that Leroy certainly preferred not to broadcast his selection before the time specified.
When it comes to anything to do with transfer speculation, again, if there are leaks they may well negatively affect our chances of landing a good prospect. Now, just a little thought . . . . . .am i really that desperate to know this information before the club believes it is safe to release it? Am i happy that a leak has led me to enjoy the prospect of player X unexpectedly joining us and glowing in this for a couple of days if in reality it puts the transfer at risk? Or would i rather just wait (probably not even knowing anything is being negotiated) and get news once all is confirmed, signed and sealed? Is that such a tough choice?
Underpinning my brief post as much as anything is not whether any of these leaks has or could affect a result or a transfer (although i suspect they COULD quite easily) but the two factors which are, firstly, respecting the rights to privacy that the club should expect and, secondly, responding to other posters with greater courtesy (unless they have seriously pi55ed you off with a personal attack )

Re: Ideas for Mr Candy
Andrew, the new procedures for entering the ground resulted in a small hiccup before our first match in that the period leading up to kick-off saw 3 turnstiles open for Bristow's Bench with no queues and only one open for the Family Stand, which had a longish and slow moving queue. It was apparent that fans were likely to miss the kick-off but the turnstile operators to BB were not authorised to allow FS fans through their turnstiles (I fully understand the issue around accountability for accuracy for numbers in different parts of the ground and also that the turnstile operators are required to follow procedures). The problem was resolved at the last minute but it had led to concern among those of us queuing. In discussion about the problem with Dean and a Board Member later, it was indicated that consideration might be given to ease the problem either with a dedicated season-ticket turnstile or a better balance between the FS and BB entrances. In view of the likelihood of a large crowd this week, I am wondering whether the situation has been looked at?
This is a simple query and certainly not a moan
The lesson I have learnt is to arrive at the ground rather earlier than usual - just in case.

Player to bring in (suggestions)
That's the problem with wiki, Michigan. Taylor is 187cm (just over 6'1.5") according to PFA Transfer List site. I think i would prefer to go with the accuracy of the PFA but it's probably not him anyway.

Re: Player to bring in (suggestions)
I'm going to guess at Matthew Taylor. He's about 6'2". Central defender. 31. Exeter 2007-11, Charlton 2011-13 (made 38 starts for Charlton 2011-12 in Div 1 but only half a dozen in the Championship last year).
If so, seems a reasonable pedigree and knows the area.
Probably way off.
