Bishops Cleeve FC v Torquay United Sat 14 Sept KO 3pm

I did not go to Sat match (thank God) and given the result am not in a position to agree or disagree with the opinions on this thread be they positive or negative. However, I was at the Farnborough and Welling match both of which we could have won and the latter we should have won, It is correct NLS teams are not that good and I sincerely believe we have squad who are talented and skillful enough to challenge for promotion but from the comments we were playing hoof-ball again on Sat to two 5 feet something forwards whereas Wotton said after the Welling Game that he does not instruct players to play hoof-ball. So why are they doing it? something is not adding up!

Welling v Torquay United Sat 7 Sept KO 3pm

He did! Fair play to the man, although I am a bit dubious given he is the man issuing the tactic's. Nonetheless, I hope that the drubbing by a team that were second best in every dept will give the gaffer food for thought in re-evaluating our tactic's for our up and coming games. We are still in a great position to push on.

Welling v Torquay United Sat 7 Sept KO 3pm

Very frustrating. Route one or hoof-ball lost us that game. You could see after 10 minutes that we were capable of outclassing Welling but keep using the widely derided footballing tactic of playing back to Hamon to launch the ball upfield like a Lunar Apollo Module. Not sure why we spend 3 minutes or so playing across the back-line if we are not going to find the gaps to play to a midfield/striker combo I'm all for mixing the game up but 70% of our play appeared to be hoof-ball and I'm frustrated because we are better than that and ought to playing more ball to feet to try and entice the opposing team to press so that there will be more space in behind them for goal scoring opportunities. Yours 'the Armchair Manager'.

Welling v Torquay United Sat 7 Sept KO 3pm

With Welling having five first-teamers in the physio room; one player on suspension and Dan Martin hobbling off during the mid-week game (no surprise there) some may wish to revaluate their scorelines for this Sat's match.

Torquay United v Chippenham Town - VNLS - 3rd September 2024

Chippenham have a squad of hard-working National League journeymen so the yellows will have to turn up and tough it out to gain the victory.

TUFC 2-0 Chippenham.

TUFC v Aveley

This softy softly, play it safe approach is not pretty to watch. Nevertheless, it is hard to be too critical when our standings see us in a play-off position after 6 games. To be sitting above Dorking, Boreham Wood and Maidstone at this stage is an achievement within itself, given where we were just a few months ago.

MOTM - Chesham + Away Estimate

Great win - yet none of them really bathed themselves in glory.

Hayfield (good all round play and great goal)
Dreyer (solid)
Tonks (good work rate and some quality play)

and the last two is for their quality and experience that stole all the points from the gutsy Generals in the dying seconds.

Moxey
Ash

Away Estimate - 600

Chesham United v Torquay United - VNSL game 5 - 26th August 2024

Great result - but not pretty to watch. However, if the team grind out results to put us top of standings I'll take that all day.

Austen Booth banned

brucie wrote: 25 Aug 2024, 14:19 Its absolutely nonsensical to suggest that Booth has a gambling addiction.
I cannot say for certain he has equally as you cannot say he hasn't. Hence, I was just asking the question.

I concur that gambling is a fun event for many people from any walk of life. Nonetheless, for some, gambling often goes from a fun, harmless diversion to an unhealthy obsession with serious consequences. Firstly, start by dispelling the myth that you have to gamble regularly to be a problem gambler. Gambling is a problem if it causes a problem and to brush this aside in exchange for 'being one of the lads' is missing the point, particularly when it is common knowledge that any football-related gambling activity is strictly prohibited for footballers in the top eight tiers.

However, as alway, I am prepared to bow to your knowledge or lack of on this matter.

Austen Booth banned

The question not asked is whether Austen has a gambling addiction? If so throwing the book at him will not get to the root of the problem. To get a season long ban must mean that the breaches were considered of the utmost seriousness - suggesting betting against his own team. To have gone 4 years betting without being outed would suggest he was concealing the betting. The lack of control Austen had/has in respect of gambling is clearly a reflection of a gambling addiction (an illness) and ought to be medically diagnosed as such as I do not think a ban is an effective way of treating the problem..

Torquay United vs Dorking Wanderers (VNLS game 4) - August 24th 2024

We are still at the guessing game of the season. Nonetheless, I seen enough in our 3 games to believe we wont go down without a fight. Even though there are goals in both of these sides, it will be a hard fought match with home advantage being the deciding factor and so I am going for:

TUFC 2 - 0 Dorking
