DevonYellow wrote:When we played them in the FA Trophy we had a few drinks in the town centre, really friendly people, even got invited back to one for a birthday party with buffet.

Pubs near the ground were a bit more difficult. The police weren't letting away fans in the supporters club and said, rather unhelpfully "there's a few pubs on the estate but you probably won't come back alive. Why not go and the watch the kids on the vevelodrome, they do coffee."

Feck that we thought, it's a nightmare watching the gulls sober, so went for a wander. We found a cracking cricket club right near the ground selling cheap pints and another friendly welcome. Can't do the trip this year but would definitely recommend it.

Zebs will probably score against us, and a draw would be a good result.
Hi DevonYellow

Yes, the Cricket Club is superb and very welcoming and the Velodrome is also a good shout if you want a cafe type environment. However, on this occasion I wouldn't suggest you use either since we now play at a completely different venue.

As for the questions regarding Zeb, he has settled in well and is currently top scorer with 4. Became popular very quickly and doing nothing to diminish that.

Looking forward to the game, not confident as we are still 'adjusting' and could be said to be a little naive sometimes. Glad you appreciated our win at Exeter almost as much as we did!

Have a safe trip.

What about best pubs for away fans-and the one's to avoid?
Hi

To be honest I'm probably not best to ask as I am far too upstanding to visit such places. However, I am sure one of my less sober friends will be along with suitable advice.

I know that there are a few pubs in the City Centre on the way from the station to the ground if travelling by train but no idea how 'friendly' these may be.

There are 2 or 3 pubs close to the ground that are frequented by Newport fans and I would be surprised if you would have problems in these. There is The Riverside and The Dodger which are located at the City end of the ground no more than 2 minuites away which always seem full with Newport fans.

If you dont want to take chances - or anyone advises not to go in there - and you are travelling by car then there are lots of options between the Severn Crossing and Newport if you want to take a short detour through Caldicot, Langstone and the likes. Caerleon is only a short drive away and has lots of choice.

As I say, not the best person to advise but either someone will be along or post on our forum for decent advice. (www.the-exiles.co.uk)

No problem. One thing to check, Harrow Road may be no-entry from Corporation Rd but any of the streets off Corporation Rd will be fine.

HRG wrote:I'm going to this one. Trying to find info on where to park isn't proving to be easy. No parking at the ground or the nearest streets. Since we have to be back home and at a wedding reception for 7pm, I do not want to get stuck in city centre traffic. Urrgh.
Hi HRG

Parking is easy and you should avoid any traffic getting away after the game.

To get to Rodney Parade, leave the M4 at J24 (s/p Newport East A48) and stay in the left hand filter lane. You will join the Southern Distributor Road (SDR) A48. Stay on that road for a few miles. You will eventually pass a large Tesco on your left followed by some car showrooms etc. Carry on and then you will see Spytty Park football complex and the Velodrome on your Left (Spytty was our previous home and where you played us in the FAT a few years back). You need to turn right at the next set of lights after Spytty but you cannot do so directly so need to take the left filter lane and then turn right. The junction is just after you pass underneath a railway bridge so be sure to be in the left hand lane. Filter off and then turn right and you will be on Corporation Road. Stay on Corporation Road to Rodney Parade (about 2 miles or so).

Approach along Corporation Road and then turn left into Eton or Harrow Road and there is plenty of free street parking. This is directly opposite where you will exit the ground (assuming you are in the away section) so you can be in your car and away within a few minutes. when you leave Eton or Harrow Road, head back down Corporation Road away from the City until you reach the Junction with the Southern Distributor Road (SDR). Turn left onto the SDR and that will take you straight on to the M4 without going anywhere near the City.

Have a safe trip and (almost) enjoy the day.
