Potential Buyers

Peter Masters wrote: 23 Feb 2024, 14:17 Thanks Dave, if we can keep to the Football more importantly address the current Torquay position that will be positive. My understanding is that the Club is not in Administration but has filed for protection in the court which I believe has an initial seven day window which can be renewed by the Directors. so there is a window of opportunity here to stop the 10pt deduction and transfer ownership, appoint a new Manager and push forward with the support of the fan base.
Well done for putting your head above the parapet. At least you also know what it takes to run a football club and although you might be met with some trepidation, it will mainly be from people who don't know many of the facts or reality of the situation.

You are already aware of the inner workings and the fact you've stuck around can only be seen as a positive. Good luck to you.

Osborne gone!

Ex chairman Dave Phillips have posted on another forum that Pete Masters is interested in buying the club but it has to happen before an admin event. Make of that what you will.

Playoff Final Vs Hartlepool at Ashton Gate

Firstly. What a fantastic game and an incredible advert for non-league football.

Secondly. I think we got away with one today. At least one of your disallowed goals should of stood and the penalty looked dubious too.
But we have both been in the lower leagues long enough to have hard luck stories.

Thirdly. Apologies for any our fans behaviour. I am sure only a small minority. But you can’t say for certain that your fans wouldn’t have ran on the pitch or behaved in a similar manner. We have them at every club.

Lastly. Good luck with next season. I am sure if you keep hold of the manager and majority of your team, you will have no problems joining us. (If we stay up!!)
It certainly wasn't a small minority but having been to your place before and been treated really well by fans and club employees/stewards, I was a bit surprised. Not sure why they would even think about behaving like that when you had just won the game.

Anyway, even though I thought the better team lost, your lads showed great heart as well and your back 3 were immense at times and got on the end of most of the balls into your box. It seemed to me that you ran out of legs first but that's where the heart and desire comes into and even if the penalties went the other way, you should be proud of your teams effort.

Not sure what level of funding you have but your home record should see you safe if you add a couple of quality players, especially up front.

smw1989 wrote: 17 Jun 2021, 21:57 Does anyone know of the parking arrangements or places to park close to the ground and what pub people are going to before the game?
Don't know about pubs but there appears to be very little parking available. I know a few fans who are having to book private parking (peoples driveways etc) and it's not that cheap either. I highly recommend going online and finding some if you're taking your car.

Time to go Mr Nicholson... POOR
While Blisset was at the club, Nicholson decided to make his "marquee" signing a striker who he doesn't fancy. McDonald was sold early and he had adequate time to find a replacement. He brought in McGinty. He also had the chance to resign a midfielder who made it abundantly clear he wanted to stay in Racchi and let him move on. Then brought in a known injury prone player in Lathrope. Although he's a decent player him getting injured was as inevitable as Sunday following Saturday.

Thats not bad luck. Its not him being usurped by those behind the scenes. Its bad management.

Yes Angus was sold but he didn't have any if that money to spend on a replacement. He still only had the same budget as beforehand to work with. A's for Racchi, his wage Bill was the same as the cost of three of the current squad. There has been no money for him. He's working with his hands tied. Who do you expect him to sign ? And don't forget that even loan signings have to be paid so your reliant on the parent club cutting a deal and paying a proportion of it.
Mcdonalds wages would have been freed up when he left. He would have been one of the higher earners. The club also said that KN would have had a slightly increased budget this season as there were not as many outgoings (Hargreaves' gardening leave eg) as there were last season. Racchi was not on good money last season and I will be very surprised if Lathrope is on much,if any, less.

I know he is working with his hands tied, as are most managers. Especially at lower levels. However, you are comparing that to wage bills from past seasons that are simply light years away from ever being plausible again. That doesn't excuse everything though and tbh, there is not much of an argument to say that he has used what he has available all that well.

Time to go Mr Nicholson... POOR

Southampton Gull wrote: 21 Jan 2017, 22:47

Absolutely nonsensical. I criticised the main area I feel Nico is getting it wrong just this week. What I can't do is slag a man who has had the spine of his team ripped out, Angus sold, Luke Young out injured after another long lay-off, and Blissett sold. He's lost the spine of his team and you can't just recover from that without investment. If you know anything about football you'll know just how important that area of the side is, it dictates how you play and set up as a side. Try losing that and add all his other tasks on top and offer that role to another manager. See how attractive the proposition is to decent proven managers. We're a basket case of a club right now and Nico knows exactly what he needs to improve the team. He's scraping the bottom of the barrel but has somehow netted a decent transfer fee for Angus with potentially a lot more to come, made Blissett worth money and turned Kieffer Moore into a player signed by a Championship side. If he's given the resources he's proved he can do it. With no investment not even Alex Ferguson could polish our turd of a team. Get real, he can do the job but not with his hands tied behind his back.

Torquay v Southport Saturday 29th October 3pm

tomogull wrote:Even by National League standards, that was sub-standard football by two sub-standard sides who will be struggling against relegation if they play like that, plus sub-standard refereeing. A dreadful afternoon. Congratulations to the 400 who decided to give it a miss. Today was as bad as anything we were seeing at this time last October.

Rowe-Turner was unprofessional by getting involved in a 'spat' at the end with individuals who call themselves supporters and neither should agricultural player Gerring who came running across spoiling for a scrap. Some people said Gerring told fans to "F*** Off" although I didn't hear it myself.
I think you are being a bit harsh of Southport there. They played quite well today for a team who were in the bottom 4 and totally deserved to win.

North Ferriby v TUFC Match thread

wivelgull wrote:This must be the lowest number of match and post-match contributions ever.
Talking of past players.....I watched Whitby Town vs Corby Town today (we won 1-0) and noticed that Corby had two ex-United players (or loanees) in their ranks. Both were poor: the first was called O'Neil Odofin (slow and ponderous, not Northern Premier League level) and the second Callum Ball (big and bustling, but not much else). I never saw these players in TUFC colours, but things must have slipped badly in the last three seasons (i.e. since I last saw United) if these two were in a line-up.
I've seen Odofin play a few times, mainly for the youngsters and he wasn't even good enough at that level. He got a few minutes under Hargreaves but he is nowhere near the standard required for NL Prem level.

Ball was only a short term loan and has played a few games at a higher level so I'm a bit surprised he has ended up there.
