Pre Season 2015

Sometimes the fans make things happen, and how much do you really think it'd cost? A game against Lille for example is a lesser distance than Carlisle. I'm not saying we should do a 10 day tour of New Zealand.

Pre Season 2015

I don't think it would be a huge expense to the club. However these things need to be planned in advance, so even if we had a major cup run or promotion season the club wouldn't dig into their pockets. It's a nice thought and if the club ever did it I'm sure plenty would travel.

Pre Season 2015

It may well be a massive longshot and I'm sure the club will find a way to justify not doing it, but wouldn't it be great if Torquay did some sort of tour next pre season? As most of you know Exeter have just completed a tour in Brazil in which 160 Grecians travelled, but maybe Torquay could do something similar next season in Northern Europe or Ireland. 3 games over a week in a not so distant country would be fantastic for the fans and the players alike.

Thoughts?

Levi Ives

I spoke to Josh Lynch today at work and only Levi is in Belfast. I was searching out of interest about Ives and found the article. Would have been nice to see him keep showing his form against Plymouth!

Finally some good news!

Excellent news considering our youth system is likely to be the most affordable option in bringing in players over the coming years.

Any idea of where this puts us in line with other Conference clubs?

Transfer Rumours

It may be a bit early yet, but I thought I'd get a thread up and running regarding rumours on incoming/outgoing players.

We've got 6 on the transfer list and are still awaiting info on who, if any are being offered new deals, so we can start with that!

Who do you want to see offered new deals?
Who do you want to see come in for the mighty Gulls?

6 Players Listed

I agree with most of the transfer listings, although I would have liked to see Chappell stay but there must be reasons behind that. Pearce has established himself as our 1st choice CB, and as brucie said it's probably because Hargreaves prefers younger and more energetic players. It will be interesting to see who he offers contracts to now with a number of players I would like to see stay running out of contract this season. I would like to see Rice, Lathrope, Thompson and Yeoman retained. Ricey is our no. 1 goalkeeper and presumably not on the biggest wage so Ricey as no. 1 and a cheap reserve is the most likely and affordable option. I think Lathrope is a proven holding CM and will comfortably do the job in the conference. As for Thompson, we all know he has bags of potential and if Chappell leaves he will act as a cheaper option on the flank. Getting strikers (GOALSCORERS) to play for Torquay at conference level may be a problem, so I see Yeoman as a good striker to have in the squad at least.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if NO players are offered new deals and the 6 are sold, our squad will be left at:

Hutchings
Pearce
Cameron
Harding
Sullivan
Benyon
Chaney
Parcell
(not sure on Labadie/Stevens contracts)

This shows the direction in the squad Hargreave wants, and I'm all for having a young, energetic side IF we had a solid core of experience and leadership.

Positives for next season

Judging by our crowds in our promotion year and crowds this year, people would rather see a winning team than a struggling one, albeit a league lower. There's a big IF as to winning matches and competing next year though. Time will tell.

I think one big positive of being a league lower with a fresh start and new manager is in the chances the 'home grown' lads will get. We would potentially have Yeoman, Sullivan, Chaney, Parcell, Hutchings and Thompson in the squad (dependant on contracts). As Hargreaves has said, young players are the way forward next season and if he gets the right ones in then we could compete, again IF. I would expect with the higher amount of postponements in the conference we could be in for a similar, if not busier February/March where these players will need to step up. FA Trophy 4th round at home to Guiseley is the sort of game where I would expect to see some of the young lads blooded.

Look out for Prynn, something tells me he might get a bit of match time next season.

Torquay v Dag & Red - Friday 18th - 3pm KO

You may be true Lucy, but surely this is the time, regardless of how slim our chances are to support the club in our fight for survival?

Torquay v Dag & Red - Friday 18th - 3pm KO

Time to cut the negativity for one game and give it a go against Dagenham. A loss could see us relegated, but a win could see us 4 points behind going into the Exeter game. Get behind the boys and let's hope that all the calculations and odds on staying up will be a little easier to work out come Friday evening, in a good way!

I presume so, not on the bench either. 4-4-2 according to SSN.
