What's Gone Wrong?

I really hope that you get things sorted out on and off the pitch.

IF we don't go up this season then at least there will be a weekend in Torquay to look forward to next season.

What's Gone Wrong

forevertufc wrote:Hi Les. Wouldn't know where to start with this, and would not want to post out on the forum some things I believe but couldn't prove. As far as the team is concerned you're right, at the start of this season we we're playing teams off the park, with some neat, quick passing football that other sides had no answer to.

Now we've morphed into a team, that panics, kicks, rushes, hoofs the ball all over the place, incapable of passing the ball 2 yards to the feet of a team mate and generally look like they do not know what they're supposed to be doing, some unfit as well.

Mentality, confidence, leadership, training, tactics, man-management, and so and so on, I'm taking a long hard look at the manager.
I do keep an eye on your results Dave and it's just staggered me how badly it's gone wrong. Even when we won there the game could have gone either way. It was only your keeper throwing one in the net for us that gave us the win, though reading some post of the game last night it sounds like he was one of the few who could hold their heads up last night.

What's Gone Wrong?

Genuine question but what the hell has gone wrong down there.

I'm a Grimsby Town fan and earlier in the season when you came to our place you were superb and one of the best teams we have seen at Blundell Park since we've been at this level, especially in the first half when you played us off the park. At the time you were in the play-off spots and I honestly thought that it would be yourselves rather than Brizzle who would be challenging at the top come the end of the season.

Even later on when I came down to your place and met up with Dave (ForeverTUFC) in Boots & Laces all still seemed to be fine. Obviously I don't follow the day to day goings on down there but I'm just curious as the why things have gone so horribly wrong since.

Here's hoping things pick up for you anyway.

Barnet v Torquay 11th November

forevertufc wrote: No worries Les, one that showing Barnet could be hauled in.
Due to the stupid Conference fixture schedule we don't play them until the middle of January next year even though we've played yourselves and Dartford twice already and we visit Altrincham on Saturday who we've already played at home.

5 league wins on the bounce now so hopefully we can keep a decent run going until we play them.

Gilbert the angry gull?

What disgraceful behaviour.

Maybe a bit of huffing and PUFFIN over nothing but I hope he ran out of PETREL on the way home and didn't get a SHAG that night. :~D

You're a very good side. On another day the result could have been completely different. You were the best team I've seen at Blundell Park this season by a long way when you turned us over a couple of months ago, so if you can get a decent keeper I'm sure you'll be up there at the business end of the season. (And NO, McKeown isn't for sale)

At the end of the day though, it doesn't really matter if the whole ball was over the line or not. The "goal" was given end of.

See you all next season in League 2. :~D

If we did react just think of how many cards the ref would have handed out to us, We have far too many already !

As for our players goading your fans how about the various gestures and noise that your guys threw at them ! Courtney Richards looks to have made a gesture. Naughty boy but it was was nothing compared to your guys in front of the popside. Try that at Milwall !!
Oh, come on. Are you saying they didn't protest because they were scared of getting booked!!! If they thought the ball wasn't over the line it's human nature you'd protest more than just walking away with your head down, and it was the scorer of your first goal who was given our fans the finger. I agree if you give stick out you should expect to get a bit back but to complain about our players celebrating when your players had done something very similar only a couple of minutes earlier is a bit rich.

I agree that you should have been out of sight before we scored but I think that you need to take those yellow tinted glasses off.

Did the third go completely over the line ????

Not conclusive for me.

Hacked off at the Grimsby players celebrating their second goal ....ossers !
It was definitely over the line. Just watch the reaction of your 2 players nearest to it. They knew it was in and would surely have protested to the ref/lino rather than just walking away with their heads down.

And our celebration of our 2nd goal was maybe in response to your players goading our fans after your 1st equaliser.

Torquay United v Grimsby Town – Saturday 18th October

forevertufc wrote:The ball did go over the line, the fan reaction gave it away, every single Grimsby fan cheered that in the same instance, a dead give away, plus spoke to my Grimsby town mate, he said it was over but not by much. Comedy moment half way through the second half when the Ton fans started singing ' Nice one Ricey, nice one son'

Just back home in Grimsby Dave having stayed at Petes last night. Was great to meet you, Martin and Billy again.

You should really have been out of sight before we scored but McKeown (who was voted "Best Keeper in The Conference" on a non-league forum for the past 2 seasons) kept us in it. Whatever happens this season, I guarantee he'll be playing league football next season. Thought we were a bit lucky to get away with a couple of handball shouts too, the other way round I'd have been screaming for them.

When our winner went in I immediately called it in but I expected to look over at the lino and seeing him waving play on. It wasn't over by much but it was definitely over, so fair play to him for that.

I disagree on the comedy moment though. I also liked the "Ricey, Ricey Man of the Match" chant but the best one for me was when one of our fans shouted at him "Bring your Uncle Ben next game, he'll do a better job"

Anyway, might or might not see you again next season. Would be nice if it were in League 2 though.

Grimsby v Torquay United – Saturday 13th September 2014

Well done today, your lads thoroughly deserved the win. Best team we've played this season.

Not sure what was really wrong with us today but you were by far the better team in the first half and although there was a bit of luck with the deflection on the 2nd goal, you definitely deserved a 2-goal lead at the break. Chris has got you playing some decent passing football.

We came more into it in the 2nd half and had a lot more possession but a combination of poor finishing and excellent defending ensured we didn't get a goal back. We we're pushing hard to get back into the game but when we lost John-Lewis to injury with 10 minutes to go having used all our subs then that was about that.

Anyway, well done and if you can produce performances like that regularly, you'll definitely be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

See you all at Plainmoor next month.

Oh, one other thing. I can recommend our programme which won the Best Programme In The Conference award last season. Always has about 5 or 6 pages on our opponents and usually has a "Where Are They Now" feature on 2 previous successful teams of the past.

It's £3 but well worth it.

Grimsby v Torquay United – Saturday 13th September 2014

I suppose a weekend in Cleethorpes is not quite as attractive as a weekend in Torquay. :)

I'm looking forward to coming down there again next month for the weekend and a night out round the Harbour area. (I can't believe that we play you again so quickly. I still can't get used to this bloody Conference Fixture Generator even though this is now our 5th season down here. What the hell is wrong with playing everyone once and then playing them again!)

Just a tip for anyone who wants to sample our famous fish 'n' chips. Remember it's Haddock up here, Cod is only fit for pet food and Yorkie daytrippers round here. I'd steer clear of the chippys on the actual seafront or prom but I'd well recommend either Steels Corner House or Ernie Becketts in The Market Place. Steels is just a sit down restaurant and it's like stepping back in time 40 years but their Jumbo Haddock, chips and mushy peas is legendary. There's also The Ocean Fish Bar on St. Peters Ave too. I'd recommend either of these 3 rather than The Mariners Fish Bar mention in the OP, as although this is handy for the ground it's really a pizza/kebab shop that sell fish 'n' chips.

Grimsby v Torquay United – Saturday 13th September 2014

Looks like it could be a bit of a scratch side for us tomorrow, with several walking wounded after the "bruising" encounter with Lincoln. There could even be a couple of loan signings in.

Safe journey to all Gulls traveling tomorrow, any idea on the numbers you're expecting to bring up.

It's a game your gaffer is looking forward to as well.
