Johnson out

Also agree, things have been really disappointing over the last couple of months. Even 3 wins out of 9 would have put us about 4th but we have slipped away and barring a quick turnaround in form it looks like we now have to secure our status at this level. Having said that we are 4 points off the playoffs so all is not lost.

I felt we were punching a ove our weight at the start of the season as the feel good from last year carried us through a few games and Reidy was scoring every game. The defensive issues were obvious and while I'm sure Gary would have wanted to spend more time and money focusing on that we then had massive injury problems further up the field which meant we have had to do a few almost panic loans to just have enough numbers. It was always going to catch up with us at some point as was the fact some of the lads who did well for us last year weren't going to be good enough for a team that has eyes at being at the top of the league.

I fully believe Gary Johnson is the right person he has a track record of success in this league and he knows where we need to improve and I expect significant changes this month to try and improve some key areas of the team. Especially at the back, ideally goalkeeper as well as another forward to take the pressure off Reidy and give us another main goal threat. Not easy but we have the best person in place to do it and any thoughts otherwise because we've had a tough run are quite frankly ludicrous.

Torquay United v Harrogate Town 7/9/19

My first time at Plainmoor in a long while and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. First half i thought we played well until the penalty decision which at the time I thought was massively soft but having seen it again it's clever play by Stead and naive from Cundy. Before that though we should have scored 3, Reidy should have scored with a left foot shot from a decent cut back from the left, Whitfield who was excellent in the first half an hour beat about 4 players and had an effort blocked and Cundy hit the post with a free header from an Andrews corner, it was then typical that we went behind.

Then they got the penalty which they scored and we lost all confidence, i was thankful for the half time whistle personally. Duku who on that performance looks way short of the standard required was replaced, if we'd been the away side he may well have got sent off for the elbow he landed on their defender (as his arms flail all over the place when he challenges for high balls!) which the useless officials didn't really see was thankfully withdrawn for Kalala who ran the game second half and along with the red card decision changed the game.

Andrews who was my personal MOTM got on the end of a centre by Wynter which Reid fluffed but thankfully Jake was behind him to slot home and level it and you think he we go let's kick on only for our poor defensive play to haunt again. we gave them so much time and space on the left hand side it seemed allowing a good ball into the box where again Stead was just wiser and stronger than Cameron and he nipped in to score. He was then sent off for a ridiculous second yellow that was harsh to the extreme, Kalvin then scored an individual screamer and from then on we totally dominated the game. Stonewall penalty naturally missed but thankfully straight to Reid for 3-2 and then an excellent finish by Reid for 4-2. Only their keeper then kept it respectable as they tired and our forward picked them apart at will.

Overall I was pleased with the performance we definitely have the attacking threat to beat anyone in this league, Reid while slightly unorthodox is effective and he's a good finisher, he was unlucky not get 3 or 4 on the day, Kalvin was outstanding and wrestled the game back for us. I thought Andrews and Vincent were good in possession and they are going to create chances as will Whitfield. Lewis was a fish out of water in midfield and with Hall coming back would improve that position. how far we can go is going to be on our defence, Lucas in goal looks a good goalkeeper, I thought Liam Davis had a very good game, I like Wynter but I thought he should have done better for the 2nd goal in stopping the cross. Cundy looks a decent prospect but is a bit raw and the same goes for Cameron. If those 2 can step their games up and get a little bit of help from elsewhere I see no reason why we can't compete for a playoff spot this year.

My MOTM was Andrews closely followed by Kalvin, Reidy and probably Liam Davis.

Think they are both an issue tbh, if we had better in both positions, Liam Davis playing left back and ideally someone like Janneh up top we'd be a genuine play off contender.

Torquay United v Maidenhead United 13/8/19

Didn't go on Tuesday but I did go to Bromley, it's clear we have some talented footballers but that alone won't be good enough in this division where there will be more organised teams and ones we will physically struggle with. GJ rightly is giving the players the first month or so to prove they are up to this level, they deserve the chance after last year but I doubt it's too long until we go into the market however we can.

Playing without a left back is obviously killing us at the moment that along with serious question marks over 2 of the back 5 as well. Niate I think could be a squad player at this level but from what I've seen he's too erratic to be reliable at his level especially against the better teams in the league and I'm sorry to say it because the lad has been a massive bonus for us but I'm not convinced on MacDonald. the wind was horrific last saturday but he was at fault for 2 of the 3 goals at least and again on Tuesday. He doesn't fill me with loads of confidence on what I've seen and the fact we will be defending lots of high balls and teams that are a lot of the time land of the giants I think he's going to struggle.

Duku's absence has been a bit bizarre seeing as though he was first choice throughout pre-season and now we've seemingly changed it and barring 20 minutes in the second half at Bromley it hasn't really worked.

Overall though while the results haven't quite been there we've played ok in the main, need to be more ruthless in both boxes and obviously a bit of experience wouldn't go a miss, still confident we can have a say towards the top half at the end of the season, GJ isn't an idiot and he'll sort out whatever issues we do have.

It only seems utterly clueless if he actually has plans to build one.....he doesn't.

Everything CO/GI have presented has been ill thought out, knock offs of other grounds with no business plan, it is literally something a work experience bored 15 year old would knock up. It is completely pie in the sky trying to dazzle people who don't really care about the club with fancy pictures and the financial benefits of selling off Plainmoor.

brucie wrote: 02 Sep 2018, 17:41 Mr Owers had to sign players on loan as he has four regular first teamers out injured and with a small squad that's alot to cope with. Bristol City might recall those players - that's just one of these things hardly worth moaning about though.

HH obviously blew themselves out in the first half and in the second half it seems were found out completely as people have said they were outplayed.

People moan because Owers brought in Bass instead of the other keeper and he has been excellent. Look at the fuss that Richinns made because Owers signed Edwards and in particularly Andrews.

It seems to me that you and your little crew actually wanted Torquay to lose yesterday so you could partake in another round of Owers bashing. Where have I said that we will get out of this league this year?

Can't wait to see those goals scored by Jamie and the "useless" Asa Hall. Basically they shoved it right up your arse yesterday and you are still fuming that we won.

Absolutely looooving it.

You have no credence - isn't about time you came on told us what a great side Eastleigh are again. How they have 700 kids and their parents watching their games bla blah blah and how they are going places. What a load of crap that turned out to be now that their "sugar daddy" has fecked off.

Trounced 4-0 by Harrogate yesterday. If Owers is such a shite manager what does that say about Eastleigh as they have less points than do
Has someone nicked your login? i remember when you used to slate Ling and Buckle how TUFC were hopeless and were never going again while we had regular decent L2 finishes.

and now..................

Oxford City v Torquay United 14/08/18

Sorry Dave I did look for you as well but I was behind the goals and presumed you would be to, I didn't see you so likewise presumed you hadn't gone.

I feel for our supporters, They are so loyal (too loyal) I find it so hard to criticise them it's not our fault this team is so bad in the main but our lack of collective stance to say this is just not good enough is alarming. You wouldn't get this anywhere else, look at what happens elsewhere when clubs are struggling below an acceptable level, the fans protest they make their voices heard they demand change be it at boardroom, sideline or on the pitch. There is nothing here, no protest against an owner who is actively trying to kill the club, no protest against statistically the worst manager in the club's history managing by far the worst team in this clubs history at our lowest level. What is it going to take??

Another 250-300 will go to Slough on Saturday and will see Torquay lose again. slough unlike Oxford City are a club on the up they've just got promoted from the Southern Prem which was a minefield of a division last year where the top 5 all got 90+ points. They will be streets ahead of Oxford city who are just trying to survive this year, and Oxford City ran rings round us for 45minutes.

Everytime I've gone in the last few years which hasn't been often admittedly I've thought how's it got to this? How can it get any worse? And each occasion it's worse, the team is worse, remember when we criticised the likes of Lee Mansell or Chris Robertson? Both would be like Lothar Mattheus and Paolo Maldini compared to this lot now.

Feel free to come up anytime let me know in advance and can be my guest for the day!

Oxford City v Torquay United 14/08/18

I don't get to many games at all these days (thankfully) but I was able to make the 20minute journey to a ground I used to play home fixtures on to watch the team I have supported since 1994 now play their recent league fixture on. That alone is embarrassing beyond belief or comprehension.

Onto the game, we were pathetic. I watch Didcot Town now in the southern league and every week win lose or draw I see a team of lads that give everything they have for one and other. They challenge for everything they chase lost causes and they defend as a team, everything Torquay don't do. Didcot would beat this Torquay side and I genuinely mean that.

i have never seen a worse bunch of professional footballers in my lifetime which begs the question 1 year on almost to the day in fact it may be the day that Nicholson was sacked, how is this better? We lost more games, got relegated and now have a worse side now than the one that played for Nicholson in just about every position at aldershot.

It saddened me more than anything watching that 1st half of no effort, no courage, pile of sh*t as Oxford City passed the ball around us and where Joe Oastler or former powderpuff full back dominated the weakest front 2 I've ever seen at any level comfortably at the back. Oxford deserved to be 2 or 3 ahead at half time forget the goal which was offside they deserved it, our players deserved a roasting from the 350+ torquay fans that basically made up the entire crowd apart from a smattering of home support and the good value bunch they had behind the goal. They didn't get it, apathy contnuing to reign as they slumped off to silence.

Second half the atrocious Banton and Keating (who was slightly less bad than Williams) were off the two lads who came on did slightly better and yes we hit the woodwork with 2 speculative shots both from 20+ yards but still we didn't force their defence into any last ditch defending nor force their keeper into a save of any note in 94minutes. Of that lot on disaply the goalkeeper is decent enough, the big centre back Niate? is adequate for the level and Davis has a bit about him, the others are a complete joke, an embarrassment to the profession and can all do one as far as i'm concerned.

i was saddened, appalled and shocked at the lack of quality we have at the lack of fight we have both on and off the pitch and then dismayed at the end as they sloped off that no one gave them the response they to a man deserved and that was a giant f*ck off tablet. I've said it before here there is a culture and an acceptance of failure that runs through TUFC from the top to the bottom (that being the supporters) where absolutely everything has become acceptable. There is no fear of failure because failure doesn't exist at Torquay, it's fine to let 7 in at home, it's fine to get relegated from the conference and it's fine to lose at Oxford City. Because that's the response they got, our supporters were more interested in a handshake from our waste of space forward than telling them all exactly what that was, a f*cking disgrace to the badge, the name of the football club it's history and traditions.

The players don't deserve 350+ people making this amount of effort for them, they are a sorry sack of sh*t that I wouldn't care if I never saw them play again. But you guys have to help yourselves and stand up to this and demand change if you don't then this will be the norm.

Don't think the generally negative response would be the same had it not taken TWENTY EIGHT days to come to this appointment, given the wait you'd like to think someone slightly more high profile may have been appointed. As it were it probably took a month of phonecalls and people laughing at the thought of reporting to a man as incompetent as Geoff Harrop to finally get someone desperate enough to accept this position.

Also enjoyed the press conference of that GI rimlicker Thomas getting a deserved flat bat response to some inane and poorly researched questions as is standard with this bloke. The podcast is dreadful, uninformative clichéd cobblers that never dares question the total shambolic way this club has been run and are more interested in asking such testing questions as who's the best captain or remember something that happened 25 years ago? as if it's relevant now when we have Jamie Reid playing for us.

Wish Owers and Kuhl all the best because ultimately it's the club's future that is in their hands because those above have already proven their incompetence and lack of care for this club, it's down to them and this group of bang average players to try and dig TUFC out of another self made hole of desperation, one which will never be challenged or questioned properly by the local media who are more interested in their free pass and invite to the end of season do than the welfare or interest of it's supporters who have suffered more than any set of fans of any professional club in the country over the last 10 years.

SACK NICHOLSON!!

Remember going to the Bromley game just after Cox had left and the team that day was a disgrace to our name. The individuals representing us were about southern prem standard at best and the lack of heart, desire and quality was a total embarrassment. I thought at the end it's all going to kick off now....people were joking about how bad it's got, there were a few boos but nothing really and some even stayed behind to clap them off. Admirable you might think? I stood in silence, disbelief more than anything at two things, a) the total joke of a match i'd witnessed but more importantly b) how everyone had stopped caring and how there were no standards at this club anymore. Nothing has changed. The last 2 years we've stopped just sort of an open top bus parade for surviving on the last day in this pitiful division. Sums the club up.

since that day we've not only lost home games to part time sides regularly, we were humiliated 3-0 at Basingstoke who hadn't won a game all season in the NLS they ended up getting relegated from it, we've lost home games to Sutton who had a defender in goal for 80 minutes, lose regularly to the likes of Guiseley and North Ferriby and that's back to back wins for Boreham over us at Plainmoor. We've lost to clubs with 10 men, we lose all the time. Nothing is ever done about it. At what point do we think it's not good enough? It used to be struggling in League 2, we can't win games in a part time league anymore.

Still there's no reaction. Blackpool fans don't go to Bloomfield road anymore because they didn't invest in the side and their owners a bit of a div, even promotion last year didn't bring them back, the reality is League 1 (3rd tier) is Blackpool's level. There are other examples, you see a side lose heavily at home you expect repercussions especially against such weak opposition. it should be a stain and a disgrace for our club to lose at home to any side of that ilk, I and we shouldn't expect to win every game nor are we Barcelona but for us to be so uncompetitive consistently against such crap seems SHOULD be unacceptable, but there is an acceptance of failure and no one cares enough about Torquay and I include fans in that. Nicho and this board should be run out of town after a performance and result like last night, don't reckon Orient fans will be so accepting of their debacle last night.

I struggle to maintain interest much anymore, went to Aldershot last minute but that will be my only appearance at a TUFC game this season thought our lads played ok but are limited but I've felt this way about the attitude within the club. Until that changes and with this board it has to come from the supporters then this club will always fail.
