Torquay United V Woking - 29/09/18
Game of two halves.
They were the better team until 2-0 down and GJ brought two on, and seemed to switch to more of a 4-2-4.
This gave us width and 2 on 2 up front against their center backs and we were on top all second half. Every time the ball went over or through their defense we looked like scoring.
Impressed with his call with the subs, and on second half form we can go up.
Our 23 was rubbish, what is his name??
Nice to see Tony Currie also at the match

Thirty Years Ago Today
Saw one of the most dramatic games in my lifetime at Plainmoor- and there have been a few.
3-3 against Swansea in the play off Final.
A long time ago but from memory this was pre Wembley days so this was to go up, after we lost 2-1 away. I remember it absolutely lashing it down all game, and being in a very packed popside. Atmosphere was off the charts.
Think we almost snatched it but not to be - Dave Caldwell had a blinder. Anyone else recall?

Pre-season friendlies 2018
Saunders and Elliot were immense. imo better than Woods and Taylor yes.
of the above centre half list I was in mini stand when Kruse scored his world famous 6 second own goal past Terry Lee. and i met Colin Bettany in a midlands pub before a game (maybe Rushden?) a few years back - seemed like a nice bloke. Told my dad afterwards and he said Bettany was the hardest player he had seen at plainmoor.

Gulls abroad
Born in Babbacombe and grew up in the Mini Stand in 70s and 80s
moved to London 90's and 0's but still saw lots of away games and the odd home game
now in Tokyo watching events with GI from afar (and concern)
Want to stay at Plainmoor!

?! The video evidence is clear. They didnt say that TUST had breached NDA. They said there was a verbal agreement before/during the meeting and before the NDA was signed.
He didnt 'blame' the trust.
This is a time when we need to pull together so get your facts straight before creating more issues between supporters

Torquay United Top 100 Matches
Many thanks again for running this thread - brought back so many happy TUFC memories.
I am also a little surprised that a conference final would beat a 7-6 win on penalties to get promoted to 'now' League One, or the Crewe or Wolves away games. but i guess that is the vagary of the format. You see this in 'best ever film' or book votes where something recent wins that in ten years time would not get a mention.
maybe in future you could weight the results based on decade? any vote for a match post 2000 gets reduced by 50%, 40% for 90's, 30% for 80s etc down to 50s as is
woudl be interesting to know if you did that whether the top 5 would change on this submitted list?

Our Final 9 Games. Can we avoid Relegation.
Having done my own version of 'predict the final table' - I have us safe with 47 points, IF we do not lose tomorrow and with a last day draw. of course a win would be massive, but i think in final reckoning not losing tmrw night will be critical.

Carlisle was also a special trip and definitely traveled more in hope than expectation. Amazing game and then at the end there was definitely NOT a friendly atmosphere when 3,000 of them came towards us. Think we started applauding them and then they were fine but was touch and go for a minute.
Seem to recall i had my one and only call on 606 on the way back, when i was telling the world what a genius Atkins was.

Wolves is only 26th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow. Maybe only those who went, and there weren't many of us after Bull robbed us in the home leg, voted for it.
If i am trying to explain to anyone what it means to be a football supporter, and that ANYTHING can happen in sport - this is the game i describe.
Probably 300 or 400 of us tucked into a tiny corner of a massive stand. Wolves had ALREADY PRINTED details of the Wembley trip booking in their programme that night to give you some indication of how ridiculous this was. 22000 went silent went Deano nicked one, and then Lors with some creative free kick genius when they werent ready to go ahead in aggregate. McNichol, Elliot and Lloyd a magnificent wall in front of kenny, kenny allen in our goal.
You also have to understand that Wembley was an impossible dream in those days - only the FA Cup and League Cup final got played there. So to win at Wolves in front of that crowd, with that first leg score and get to Wembley was as close to heaven on earth as you will get.
Wolves fans got nasty at the end after being turned over. Police escort out of the ground and bricks thrown against the coach but who cared.
Que sera, sera

btw - obviously i was the '10'
Just want to say thanks again for whoever organised this thread. bringing back some fantastic memories.

Bristol City game was one of my mine. Late 80's and early 90's were a fantastic time to be a TUFC fan and i saw a lot of games.
This one stands out for the coach journey, the massive away support on the big bank behind the goal and of course the West Country derby.
Slightly embaraased to say it but Dave Caldwell was my hero at the time! (partly still is), for the football, the bravado, the toughness, the ability to punch himself in the face and get a penalty (Swansea play off away ) and general carnage. I seem to recall he got arrested before he joined us after (and i think i can still remember the quote) 'getting rugby tackled on the motorway verge by a policeman because he had been celebrating his move to Torquay" not sure if it is true but there you go.
Anyway, main memory is Lors doing his magic on the left hand side and sending in a beautiful curling cross onto the penalty spot where Mr Caldwell launched a diving header - cue pandomonium. Glory Days.
Also recall the Orient Game earlier. big Jolly Boys outing to London and massive support. Still dont know how we did not score in the mother of all goalmouth scrambles at the end.
I love Torquay
