Squad 2024/25

LikeaPatOutaHele wrote: 17 Sep 2024, 23:51 I disagree. Never understood what people saw in Jenkins-Davies.
Whilst he was sometimes referenced as another Adam Randell the two are miles apart.
Based on his contributions to a poor team last season, he is not an improvement on what we have. Certainly not a starting spot. Two of the major deficiencies in the current side are lack of creativity and pace. I don't question his effort but he didn't demonstrate either last season.
He is still young (19). Plenty of time to fulfil the potential Argyle see in him and confound my opinion.
Another Arkell Jude-Boyd, now that would really be a great signing.
Have to disagree with you on this one, he is just coming up 20, he will be bigger, stronger and more knowledgeable than last season and you have to trust in PLymouth that they would not hand out contracts to young players without recognising their potential, he scored 8 in 37 appearances for us which is a good return for a young midfielder.

Win - silence
Lose - not impressed / should do better/ X player is crap

And before any moronic comeback, im still fuming we are out of the FA cup and its a terrible result but we aren't and can't throw everything away because of that loss

I'll see you back on here next time we lose :-D
I like watching three at the back especially in the premier, it gives far more options, however for it to work well you need the back three to be fast mobile and intelligent in understanding threat, we have a centre half back who is half reasonable at this level, when you add Palmer and Moxey who find fast walking a struggle then it doesn't work, Dreyer cannot cover both of them, these deficits were shown perfectly time after time on saturday.
To a certain extent having foulston and tonks as the two other backs doesn't really work for the same reasons, while they are reasonably fast and mobile they are both very inexperienced. I hope craske is back to fitness soon because he is the best right back we have by a mile.

Time for the 2nd pink strap to go...

We could have worn the home kit yesterday or even the black and white stripes, neither would have clashed with cleeve.
Looking out from bristows each week the yellow and blue outnumbers the pink top by a good 10 to 1, so its not that popular, Perhaps for contractual reasons we have to wear it away to try and improve sales. Players are superstitious, they read this forum, they will see the win ratio when wearing the shirt, it shouldn't, but can have a negative effect on them.

Taelee73 wrote: 14 Sep 2024, 21:11 You move players on by loaning them out, I’m assuming we can do that?

Wotton did sign these players, as per every squad, some work and some don’t. If they haven’t the capability or refuse to do what he tells them, then there is no point in them being here. Will he give those fringe players today another chance when the other 3 players are back, or will he use the money available to get loans in. I can’t imagine he’s the type to give too many chances if there are other options.
I think the team picked itself today with three starters injured, cooke's wife giving birth, booth, not this season, collins ,less said the better, crosbie a wild punt but defo not up to this league and the likes of craske being brought back slowly but I see where your coming from, ash and seymour havent done it once this season unless paired with cooke.Tomlinson well everyone in the lifeboat would have to have died before wotton gace him a seat, so his choices were very limited today.

Bishops Cleeve FC v Torquay United Sat 14 Sept KO 3pm

Passed the argyle team bus on the M5 at weston super mare in walking pace traffic not realising we had hired it, I was in the ground and had my food from the slowest buffet staff ever before our team arrived, I think it was 2-25, and not the first time our lack of organisation didnt help the plan.
In 50 years plus of supporting I can count on one hand the amount of times I wanted to leave early and this was one of them.
Cleeve could comfortably have been four up by half time, they had a simple game plan, tackle anything that moved, after a 2 hour journey home we still havent worked out if we had a game plan at all.
We played pretty inefective going no where passes across our back line and cleeve just said ok, you can have your own half which seemed to throw us completely.
To date I thnk our results have flattered to deceive ,I know we are a new squad but we have more than a couple of players that would not make cleeve's first team on todays showing, ash and seymour were walking most of the game, when not walking they were moaning or shouting at each other, cleeve's first two goals were simply down to moxey and palmer being done for pace, Palmer seems to have put on weight since the start of the season mainly his waistline.Mussa tried valiantly but more often ended up with him giving the ball away. No one deserved their salary today.

Welling v Torquay United Sat 7 Sept KO 3pm

Regardless of your opinion on warnock's role at the club it would be stupid in the extreme for any manager not to take every opportunty to pick his brain, he will see things that wotton cannot yet grasp as a manager from tactics to man management.I have already said he is a resource that any club would rip your arm off to have at their club.

Welling v Torquay United Sat 7 Sept KO 3pm

We were not beaten by a better side we lost because of our own shortcomings, 90 per cent of our attacks consisted of the long hoof ball, even a sunday league team would get wise to it and find a way to deal with it, and welling did. yes, we hit the post on several occasions but that was just poor finishing. I can understand why we played the way we did , hayfield out, hasani great going forward but is not a put your foot in midfielder and collins spent all afternoon trying to win a contract at welling he was that poor.
If there is any money in the budget we need a tough central midfielder and quick.

When you look at the goal difference for us vs others at the top we could do with an injection of pace via a loan or two I think. Plus a plan B to change shape.

Can't grumble overall though. COYY
Agree with the need for some more pace, I see saiko Janneh is looking for a club. now that would be a statement if we could get him back even on a short term prove yourself contract.

Unless we do something totally radical I do not see us keeping a clean sheet, but I will go 2-1 us.

Set Pieces, Strategy, Game Plan

I hope and believe that the set pieces, strategy and game plan are disussed and practised during training, there is no requirement or need for our input ,we cannot play by committee , besides putting ten of us in a room to discuss tactics and we would still be there until doomsday and still not reach an agreement becuase we all see the game differently that is why we have a manager who has one invaluable advantage over most clubs in this league in that he can seek advice from warnock if he so requires. I personally dislike a back three which I believe only works when those three are big, super fit,
classy ball players which would be as rare as hens teeth in this league.
Yes ,our team has been thrown together late by circumstance, but you can see players in the squad that regardless of events could turn it on anywhere and in any starting eleven, I suspect our best starting team will be differnt by the new year because certain players cannot play the managers way or consistently enough even at this level.

TUFC v Aveley

Well that was frustrating, how aveley have only point before today is beyond me, their back line was the best I have seen this season, I have not seen a good competant first half yet from torquay, pretty passing does not win games and we are rather good at it, although I dislikee the southgate way of playing, sideways and back far to much. Craske first half spent most of the time in acres of space on the right and it was the 19 minute before someone actually passed to him, after that the two most effective and dangerous crosses were from craske, didnt see any injury and not sure why he never came out for the secnod half, with the exception of tonks none of the subs troubed aveley, first half I thought ash was electric but second half he just didnt do anything. Midfield does not support the forward line nearly enough and I would like to see strengthening in those roles.

I trust the manager to be working in this though, seems an honest guy & hopefully can improve our levels of play as we go on
I agree with your comments regarding the workrate and as they play together the understanding will only improve, but you cannot coach quality into players, they either have it or they don't, our squad was assembled in quick order and with a smaller budget than last year, even at this early stage of the season several players will obviously go onto better things such as dreyer, carson and possibly tonks , threalkeld and moussa should be playing in a higher league if it werent for recurrring injuries, the remainder are good honest journeyman footballers. We have no randall or Lawrence or speedy wingers that excite the crowd but I am hoping that will come from loans.
