Torquay United v Grimsby Town Sat 11 Sept KO 3pm

In regards to the stewards;
I made the trip down from Gloucester on Saturday as I’m currently on Gardening Leave so thought I’d make use of my time coming down to plainmoor. It was a bit of a last-minute decision so I didn’t buy a ticket online.

The M5 was so busy on Saturday- mostly caravans and Middle Lane Drivers Club members so the usual 2 hour journey became 3.5 hours so made it to the ground about 25 mins before KO.

The line for the ticket office was VERY long and moving slowly due to test and trace apparently. I got to hear Little’s goal from the queue, little did I know at the time that would be our only one! Got my ticket at 3:15 and walked around to the Pop. When I got to the gate the steward told me that the gate was closed and I couldn’t come in. I told him that I’d just been sold the ticket and it would be fine. He told me rules are rules. Let him know there were another 20 people behind me wanting tickets so I’d be kicking off is he didn’t let me in. Anyway, begrudgingly he let me in.

Surely, as an employee, he’d want to see more in the ground showing support- considering the lack of fans from the previous season. The club need to look into this and improve communication between ticket office and the head steward.

Promotion chasing Squad?

I’ve not been able to go to many games due to my job requiring me to work weekends. However, I’ve been to Maidenhead and the Grimsby games, I’ll also be at Solihull tomorrow. I’ve been to many games over the years and I’m somewhat dismayed at how poor the squad is. There seems there is little communication and a lack of leadership in key positions.

Goalkeeping is a thankless position but when you get it right you can become a fan favourite quickly. Halstead seems out of his depth. He’s committing to balls that he has no chance of getting; I’m sure he thinks he taller than he is. He’s also very quiet; not sure if it’s confidence but I’m really not impressed.

From my view, the boys are weak all the way through the middle of the field. Opposition players can jog through and barely have to change speed or course. Centre back and centre midfielders look weak, they have no muscle and no speed to hassle.

Centre back distribution is horrendous. Booting the ball away rather than feeding the attacking players or wingers is criminal! My positive points are that the boys still look lively coming in from both sides.

As far as attacking goes, it’s a bit of a worry when relying on Wright to do it all when he’s not getting any younger, still a great player but no one looks willing to make the runs Danny does.

Looks like it’ll be another frustrating season. I’ve written off thoughts of a promotion challenge, that’s just not happening with this squad. I just hope we’re able to loan some players in who look hungry for games.

Hi all, Ray here.

I’ve been going to games since around 2002. As I’ve lived in Gloucester, as a kid I used to watch Gloucester City when Leroy Rosenior was manager there.

Hoping for some spirited debate with everyone.
