Maidenhead v Torquay Utd - BH Mon 10th April 3pm

Really pleased for Gary and the boys- silencing their many critics -[ for a few days at least and hopefully for many more ]

So important now to get fully behind them all after this brilliant four match run- we have a chance to avoid relegation.

I very much hope that the current form can be maintained, that other results go our way and we get that little slice of luck which can make all the difference

Are you really a TUFC supporter ? I am far from convinced that you are !!

Having read your comments over the last few seasons it has become increasingly apparent to me that you derive significant pleasure when the team lose and an unpleasant degree of cynicism and negativity when it wins.

For goodness sake surely the maintenance of our position in the National League and hopefully the eventual recovery of Football League status is what any genuine supporter is focussed on ?

You have consistently criticised Garry Johnson and the other members of the management and scouting team, ignoring the fact that they are operaing under severe financial constraints, combined with the long term problem of attracting players to our beautiful but somewhat isolated county.

I know it will probably be very difficult for you but why not for once get behind Garry and the team -

Gateshead v Torquay United - 18th March 2023

culmstockgull wrote: 19 Mar 2023, 11:56 Just watched the highlights back and the comment of we made them look good is very accurate, watching their goal they had five agianst our three with the midfield making no attempt to get back and help out. As for the comments of Johnson post match,he is past embarassing, even with loaded questions given to him on a plate he still fails to see the same game as everyone else does, as mentioned by others with the pitch and the ref out of the equation what was he left with and to say six or sven did not train this week when at least two of the subs were match fit and were not used. They may not have the quality of the starting eleven but they could at least run for 90 minutes.
What ever happens next season two people should not be at the club, besides half the squad, Johnson and the one who supposedly does the interviews, both have done this club serious damage through their lack of honesty and intergrity.
Where is your evidence for Garry Johnson's "lack of honesty and integrity". You have consistently made ill conceived and inaccurate comments about Garry on this forum throughout the season. Do you not understand that he has a battle on his hands with a relatively low playing budget as compared to other clubs in the National League and is swimming against the tide when it comes to attracting players to the club because of it's geographical position? I, for one, have tremendous respect for Gary as a manager and as an individual. He and the team will continue to have my whole hearted support as they endeavour to retrieve the situation. As I have done for many years, I will continue to attend matches at Plainmoor with a positive attitude in the knowledge that the current managerial and scouting team have the ability to eventually lead the club back to the Football League.

Gary Johnson, stick or twist?

culmstockgull wrote: 22 Nov 2022, 11:37 Any deranged belief that we are a league two team in waiting has been bled out of us during the last two years, yes it is about budgets, geography and the ability to attract decent players from a scouting set up that fails on every level and for the second season running.
Johnson maintains the players do not lack confidence, possibly not, but that counts for nothing when in the main they lack the quality to play in this league, in fact several of them lack the ability to be a pro footballers.
I do no want Johnson's career to end with a relegation, but that is what is going to happen unless we change things, and soon.
Totally incorrect to argue that " the scouting set up fails on every level". The National League is extremely competitive and, if the financial resources are not there, as is patently obvious in Torquay's case, regardless of the number of talented players that the club identifies, it is pretty well nigh on impossible to attract them with the remuneration on offer. Look at the attendances at Notts County, Wrexham and Chesterfield for example and the strong financial backing these clubs enjoy. How on earth do you not see that the club's present precarious position is hardly attributable to Gary Johnson's ability as a manager. He has worked competently with the resources at his disposal and deserves support rather than the constant criticism you level at him.

Gary Johnson, stick or twist?

Midlandgull wrote: 26 Oct 2022, 21:40 There is no way all of a sudden Gary Johnson is a bad manager. He is one of the best managers we have had at this club, ever!

The big challenges have been around losing some brilliant players such as Little, MacDonald, Lemonheigh-Evans, Wright, Wynter, Lewis, and then three brilliant loans like Armstrong, Wearne, and McKenna. Jesus wept, that is a hell of a lot of players and quality to lose. Not to mention losing good players from the previous season due to play-off heartache.

Two of our best players are aging (Hall and Moxey) and we need to wrap them up in cotton wool. The problem is we can't even get a squad of 15 together each week meaning they're constantly forced into action.

Is Johnson perfect? No
Has he signed some players that haven't done enough? Yes

But it's a mammoth task to replace all those players and clearly, we must have missed out on some targets because Johnson would have wanted a bigger squad together.

Once we get some of the injured/suspended guys back we have a reasonable squad. I've got no doubt Gary will get into the loan market again to improve us and give us much-needed depth!

We would've got more points without the recent sendings off as well!

Regardless of everyone's opinions, we have to unite and get behind the boys! I genuinely think the fans can make a big difference.
There's never a dull moment that's for sure!

COYY
All the above points by Midlandgull are absolutely accurate.

Just like to reinforce the point that GJ is one of the best managers the club has had in it's long history- Frank O' Farrell perhaps shades it as regards the all time best but I would still rate Gary up near the top.

The major problems have been the exodus of some very good players before the start of the season and the difficulties experienced in replacing them because of financial constraints.

Surely one of the more obvious ways to assist the club in the present situation is for all genuine supporters to get down to Plainmoor for every home match if they can afford it, provide the club with additional gate revenue and get fully behind the team and Gary.

Positivity is required not constant carping and criticism by the usual armchair warrior culprits

culmstockgull wrote: 22 Oct 2022, 21:18 Did I just see a football match, was this inept performance put on to show the greater UK population via BT what we in Devon have known all season, we were and are dire. in a first half when they could easily have had five and without any particular effort on their part, Colclough was running the show and no one wanted to go near him, our back four were worse than poor, we had a striker playing left wing, a central midfielder playing right wing, what could go possibly go wrong.
We come out second half with a bit of passion and start playing football , what did we have to lose, even after Hall single handed put us in with a chance every time they came forward you wouldnt have bet against them to score.
Goodness knows how much the FA are going to fine us because of the stupid amount of yellow and reds we have collected because by a country mile we are top of the league , and thats the only time I will saying that this season.
I think I need to crack a bottle of wine before I have the stomach to listen to Johnsons take on this one. Anyone who thinks we have turned the corner, we have improved, we are on the up,we didnt lose, you were not at the game.
Instead of constantly criticising the team and the manager every week [and I presume that you are doing so from the comfort of your armchair rather than actually going through the turnstyle and providing the club with much needed income] wouldn't it be more helpful to get fully behind the club as a supporter ?

Gary is working extemely hard with very limited financial resources to build a team good enough to get the club back into the Football League where it belongs without question. He and his backroom staff are working incredibly long hours coaching and scouting to achieve this objective.Of course the season to date has been disappointing but there are still a large number of games left to improve the situation.

I always find Gary's end of match interviews of performances at Plainmoor a pretty honest assessment of what I have seen whilst at the match and have no reason to suspect his after the match away game interviews are similarly other than realistic summaries of the team's performances.

Gary Johnson, stick or twist?

Constant barrage of criticism aimed at Gary Johnson is unjustified. He has been and still is a very good manager who has the ability and experience to achieve a decent league position this season. Of course things would be significantly easier if more financial resources were available but in the present economic climate this situation is unlikely to come about. Those calling for his replacement should be careful what they wish for - remember Cox, Knill, Hargreaves. Owers and Nicholson, none of whom can hold a candle to Gary Johnson
