Maidstone “Not Proper Fans”

Abbotgull wrote: 28 Aug 2024, 23:11 I think it is worth putting up anyway since Maidstone are/were expected to be one of our main rivals. Maybe the point about Johnson is to illustrate that maybe Elokobi is starting to lose his grip.
That was my point exactly

Maidstone “Not Proper Fans”

Maidstone fans who failed to stay behind and clap the team after another perceived poor performance this time against Hampton and Richmond, have been accused by manager George Elokobi of not being “proper fans”.

One of their fans posted :

George has really lost the plot here

No one was even moaning about him, yet now he's managed to turn a lot of fans against him 3 games into the season.

Even on Saturday games I can't be arsed to hang around and just head for the exit as soon as the whistle goes, to then have George claim people not clapping aren't proper fans is absolutely ridiculous.

Starting a manager against the fans' thing never ends well

Sound familiar? At least Elokobi had the decency to put out a statement apologising for his criticism. Sadly we never received any kind of apology from GJ……

Wubble U wrote: 28 Aug 2024, 08:17 So far, I've found Mussa a very frustrating player. He obviously has tons of ability and can skip past a couple of players with ease.
However, he seems to me to be only concerned with how he looks, rather than playing the right ball to advance play.
A bit of a show-off, if you will.

He'll dance around with the ball, nice dinks and touches, beat a man, then ignore the opportunity to capitalise by laying it off, and he tries to find someone else to beat or goes for the worldy shot or pass, then lose it easily and we're on the back foot.

Quite rightly he has been relegated to the subs bench since the opening game, and this actually may be the best place he can affect a game from, when we need that bit of flair to try and get back into a game.

At the moment IMO a luxury player, who doesn't match his team-mates' work ethic, but if he can become a more effective team player with coaching over the season, we have a real prospect on our hands.
Accurate summary

If so, we can safely say one individual was on a hefty chunk of that, scandalous really. One of the most expensive squads and management and one of the worst sides in our history. Wonder what his brother was on.

Thank goodness we’ve had a total clearance of all that deadwood from the very top to bottom, they should be embarrassed to have been on those salaries in NLS.
The playing bill of almost one million pounds, didn’t include GJ’s wage……

Tomlinson started the first half of the season well, but seemed to lose confidence and ability as the weeks went on. Without doubt our defence looked a lot weaker once Donnellan stopped playing.

I’m not sure that Tomlinson was able to cope well with the criticism aimed at our defence last season, however justified it was. Hopefully this season he will blossom under the new regime and deliver on the potential he has previously shown.

Also, why should footballers have to make quick decisions and not explore the other options that are out there for them? We have no way of knowing what offer Moxey has been made (it could be a 50% pay cut for all we know) or what his personal circumstances are. Some fans need to realise that these are people as well as footballers, and they should be allowed to make decisions about jobs in the same way I may decide to change my employment for any number of reasons.

Season tickets 2024-25

thebigp1 wrote: 22 Jun 2024, 10:08 Any idea how many season tickets were sold last season?
Bearing in mind the level of secrecy that surrounded all aspects of the club over the past few seasons, I would expect this information to be available to the public after a 20 year time period has elapsed

Ex-Gull watch

Firstly, I wish every player who has played for us over the last couple of torrid seasons well - yes even Ross Marshall.

I view the coming season with optimism and excitement. Our team last year looked good on paper, but injuries aside, I wonder if those same players, either consciously or unconsciously thought themselves too good for NLS and were completely caught out by the opposition, who week after week demonstrated their passion, desire and commitment to win at all costs. What I saw in those players was totally lacking in our own team who often looked as though they thought that all they had to do was turn up.

Sadly they too often didn’t turn up and we lost regularly to supposedly “inferior “ teams. Well now we have PW who appears to be building a team that will hopefully show that same level of desire and commitment that we played against last year. That, combined with a manager and assistant who are able to coach, organise and inspire a team (and club) towards promotion, and help to restore some pride on and off the pitch.
