Mike Fondop - Remember him?

I was at Hampton & Richmond watching them face Truro City yesterday, with both goals in the furriners' 2-0 win coming from a certain Noah Keates - another summer trialist who didn't get a deal from us. Both of his goals were superbly struck, and he stood out in Truro's side along with Mr Ben Gerring.

I'd be fairly certain that Keates would offer more than Damon Lathrope and Callum Evans.

Kevin Foster MP supports TUFC in his weekly newsletter

I think he is saying we should aim to build a stadium like Sandy Park and make use of it as much as the Chiefs do.

Guardian Article On Torquay

I had a Twitter exchange with Kevin Foster on Sunday morning, after a little prompting from an Exeter City supporting contact who was posing the question 'what are you doing to help TUFC' to a number of local representatives in politics and media.

It would be fair to say that Mr Foster is not going to be silent on the matter and he assured me he has spoken with TUST to discuss the developments at Plainmoor. He's definitely someone to keep on side, although as has been mentioned earlier in this thread, his thoughts are now going to be firmly on June 8's General Election and his nuptials, which were previously scheduled for two days after what is now the GE date!

This whole farrago needs to be a major campaign issue, if indeed it hasn't been signed and sealed before campaigning gets underway.

Mr Foster also has past experience of a similar issue from his time in Coventry, where he was warning about the problems likely to occur after the Ricoh Arena was built - the business plans for that stadium, he says, never looked like stacking up well for the Sky Blues and look where they are about to head.

All is not lost yet and it would appear there is a groundswell of people who will not let GI mess with the club without at least having to answer for their actions. Let's just hope that is enough!

Remember no context at all in there - they were tweets from TUFC fans at the forum, already taken one (the keyboard warriors/whatevers the wrong way apparently.

And I find those particular numbers you mention rather unlucky...or perhaps missed them out for no particular reason!

Ex-Gull watch

Talk about falling down the leagues...I watched O'Neil Odofin play on Tuesday night for my local team Bedfont & Feltham. He looked a class above his team-mates but couldn't stop them losing 3-1 at home to AFC Hayes. That's Combined Counties League Premier Division...four tiers below us I believe.

The 2016/17 Season Guessing Game

If you are at all interested in odds and such stuff, the Racing Post did their excellent season preview today. There was not a single mention of Torquay in any of their preview pieces for the National League apart from in the team-by-team guide.

They had the following order...

1. Lincoln
2. Tranmere
3. FGR
4. Eastleigh (my idea of the winners)
5. Wrexham
6. Dover
7. York
8. Barrow
9. Dagenham
10. Gateshead
11. Aldershot
12. Sutton
13. Chester
14. Macclesfield
15. TORQUAY
16. Woking
17. Boreham Wood
18. Southport
19. Bromley
20. Guiseley
21. Braintree
22. Maidstone
23. Solihull
24. North Ferriby

Our little write-up: Torquay pulled off the Great Escape last season but should be a little more comfortable this term. A lack of cash means the Devonians have had to be careful in the transfer market but they can continue to progress under promising manager Kevin Nicholson.

Written by the usually excellent Dan Childs.

Martin Ling interview

First post in a while, but since the Herald Express has cut and pasted my interview with Martin from the Sky Sports website original I thought I might put in my two penneth on this thread. Maybe I should have put a bye-line on to claim some royalties from Dave Thomas!

I'm not saying anything about Martin's relationship (current or past) with the club because that is down to him to say, but I will say I wish him all success in the future because I have rarely met a man so passionate about football in my life.

I had all kinds of questions ready to ask him yesterday, but needed only three in the end because he was so open about his illness and the way he has been working to overcome it, educate about it and try to stop the knowledge-less, scurrilous rumour-mongering that goes on, not just on forums, but when people see him walking around or watching matches. That was meant to be the whole point of the article. People putting 2+2 together and making 5 about someone who would (IMHO) do a better job than at least 50% of the current managers in League Two.

Those still spreading muck about Martin need to have a serious look at themselves.

Re: Player to bring in (suggestions)

Just to get this back on thread (however interesting all this NTFC/CCFC talk is), I see that Cheltenham have Anyinsah and Bowerman in their friendly squad for this evening.

Re: Ideas for Mr Candy

Understand with regards to the OS not sending stories when there is no official news...but why hasn't the Wedding Fayre tonight story been amended when it's out of date?

That kind of thing annoys me, although it's probably because I am doing precisely that every day of the week (well, those I am in the office anyway)

Just smacks of a lack of care.

June 10 is just our deadline isn't it? Usually, pro contracts run until June 30 - pretty much standard.

Judged by his social media presence, he's on holiday anyway.

Re: Player off to Villa

Bad news? I don't think you can say that right now with any certainty...no-one has any idea how this will play out, or just what the 'deal' is that we have.

Contrast this lad with Saul Halpin, a player we believed to have all kinds of talent as he came through the system Prynn would have joined this coming season. A trial at Derby, a hat-trick at that trial, and all kinds of excitement.

And what happened...

Three years of nothing, injuries and eventual release on to the scrapheap.

Re: Retain or Release?

tauntongull wrote:Am I right in thinking that if Rene is officially contracted with TUFC until June that he cannot sign for another club before this contract expires? This may explain why nothing is happening. He seems to find all this speculation about where he is going next season quite funny. Personally I find it a bit disrespectful. He posted on his twitter account yesterday, "Where am I off to today then?". I wish he would just either commit or move on, either way I don't mind but surely this must be affecting other plans!!
Doesn't make any difference at all. I've been writing stories all week about players 'agreeing deals to sign for 'Team X' on July 1.' I'd imagine any delay is down to the number of offers his management has to plough through. And the chances of us being at the top of that list, at least in terms of wages, are somewhere around zero...maybe loyalty will have an effect, but I doubt it.

Like many others, I have just about written off the hope that Rene will be playing for us next season, but stranger things have happened (usually to us!)
