I would like the screen to have a clock on it. I don't wear a watch, & my mobile is deep in my pocket...& virtually inaccessible under 6 layers & gloves & the blanket I've had to huddle under during these balmy Spring games we've enjoyed recently. The screen has the score on it, & the scorer is announced (sometimes can't hear though); hopefully at some point in the future it could display minutes that have passed & the scorer? I'm going to purchase a season ticket for next season (SHOCK, HORROR ) & hope to see some improvements!!!

It makes the club a shed load of cash. It may be an irritant to some, but hey, every penny helps (and if people are boycotting matches anyway, the club need it all!!)wivelgull wrote:If only The King's Speech would be shown - anything's better than continual bloody adverts. for things no-one wants anyway.

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

2-2 with auto promotion candidates and perpetual table toppers (ish) Cheltenham. 4-2 over Rochdale when they would have been lucky to get 0 and we could have had 10. 1-1 away to Vale with half the youth team on the pitch, theirs was an OG and they are the top scorers in the division and just this evening stuck 7 past auto promotion candidates Burton. A bit rubbish for a few games... 4-3 over Aldershot recovering from 3-0 down. 3-1 over Accrington in one of the most comfortable nights at Plainmoor I can remember. 2-2 against Championship hopefulls Yeovil who had all the luck in the world on their side. 3-2 against a Rovers side who, by their own admission (boasting) haven't played that well for 5 years, a Rovers side featuring some prick who has now scored three dozen goals in 5 minutes in the Championship and us down to 10 men after 30 seconds. Beat runaway league leaders Gillingham 2-1 from 1-0 down. Batter Barnet, and I mean BATTER Barnet for an hour and a half. They get in our half once and score the winner with their only shot on or off target. Lose 1-0 to a goal he'll never score again if he had a million goes at it from Connell against a Bradford side against whom we played 89 minutes with 10 men. 1-1 against auto promotion hopefulls Northampton Town with their thoroughly undeserved equaliser coming in the 117th minute. 1-1 with Plymouth with their only shot on target from some kid who is tipped for Barcelona in the 125th minute. 3-2 Wimbledon in the stupidest match I've ever seen. 2-1 to auto promotion hopefulls Burton featuring yet another goal that the kid will never score again if he plays until he is 100.Mav wrote:It's not a case of we went to the wall in january, we have been pretty ropey for most of the season. the only difference is that early on we got lucky in games and managed not to lose. We didn't play well against plymouth in Sept, We scraped a win against Morecombe in october but we just happened to be the better of too poor sides. Harrogate and Southend in November. they have played the odd game where they performed better, but it's been too few and infrequent. It would be quicker to list the games where we have played good football this season.
That does not sound to me like a team getting lucky and scraping wins. We were alright until late December, then we started conceding late goals, then the manager did a bunk and, well, you know the story. I'll grant you, the football we have seen this season hasn't been brilliant, but that has been the case for both sides. I have seen maybe a couple of genuinely good sides this term Rotherham away passed the ball well, although they were assisted by one of the worst TUFC performances of all time and they still only beat us with a comedy goal. I thought York looked handy enough when they were at Plainmoor recently. Some of the worst sides going are Wycombe who have beaten us twice and Northampton, who want to stop calling themselves a 'football' club before someone takes umbrage under trades description.
We have really been hamstrung this year by all sorts of things. We have had more red cards this year than we have in the last 5 years combined and not one of them for a nasty tackle. JOastler's at Rovers was a travesty, as was Saah's at Bradford. The 4 Downer has received have all been technical "last man" offences (two of which weren't even really his fault, the clumsy oaf just lost his footing and brought the striker down with him) and so was that of Tom Cruise.
How many other managers have ever gone off sick mid-season. I can think of Houllier (sp?) at Liverpool a few years ago and it's not as if they are struggling to attract managerial candidates or they were really likely to be allowed to be relegated given their finances and this infernal history their supporters are so keen to tell us all about loudly and often.
We lost the opportunity to do anything about the situation which was developing until we did. Once Dinger wasn't around and Taylor was at the helm, there were no changes that could be made. Knilly isn't a magician, he can't pluck players out of thin air and he got quality guys in as soon as he was able.
Yes, the Board turned down Dinger's request for a loanee or two just before he checked in to Betty Ford, but at the time, loanees probably weren't the answer, certainly not loanees we couldn't afford. This squad would, under normal circumstances, be mid-table. As it is, with all that's happened, they're a little lower than that, but the squad (and to a large extent, the Board) are victims of unbelievable, unforeseeable and unprecedented circumstance.
And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, we have our best loanee for 5 years recalled by his parent club who don't need, want or rate him. Plymouth get a guy on loan who scored 6 in 10, he doesn't get recalled and nor do any of the loanees at other relegation threatened clubs, it's only ours. Something else beyond the control of the club. I'm not saying it's all down to bad luck, we have been terrible in a number of games this season, but there must be a reason for this. The last relegation year demonstrated what effect off field turmoil has on on field performance, don't underestimate it's effect this time round.
This squad has the talent and now has the settled leadership to stay in the division. We can beat Barnet and we can beat Morecambe and we can get a point against Rovers. If we go down with 53 points and a -5 goal difference, then so be it, we will have to offer hearty congratulations to the teams below us for winning all four or five the their last games and by a healthy margin too.
Matt.

The question mark I have highlighted may be safely removed without altering the truth of the statement.brucie wrote:ferrarilover - I'm an idiot? what does that say about those running the club then. Did you watch the Wimbledon game. any fool could see that day that our squad wasn't good enough. So what was done about it? absolutely nothing, bugger all.
This was an accident waiting to happen and it has done big style. This hasn't got anything to do with Taylor or Knill.
You think we are good enough? - you are insane?
Believe me I don't take one iota of pleasure in being proved right. I am just a supporter - I don't run a football club. But if I could see what was happening what the hell were ling,Baker and co doing . Sat with their heads up each others arses - thats what.
Yeah, one bad game, that's definitely the way managers and clubs decide how good a squad is. Haven't you noticed how, every time Man Utd play badly, Alex Ferguson sacks every single player and gets in 22 loanees. This is what makes your opinion so totally and utterly worthless, because you're just SO reactionary, but only ever in the negative. Why do I not have a recollection of you coming on here telling everyone how good we were when we walked all over Rochdale earlier in the season? Because it never happened. By your 'if they're rubbish in one game, they're rubbish all the time' "logic", surely, given the virtuoso performance against Dale, they should have been sitting pretty at the top of the league having won every match?
Of course I think we are good enough because 95% of this squad got us within spitting distance of L1 twice in the last 2 seasons.
You haven't been "proved right" and nor shall you be, because you ALWAYS say we are shite and that we will go down and lose matches. Any prat can predict the same thing every time and get it right eventually. You said we were bobbins at the start of last year and the year before. You said before the recent Chesterfield game that people would turn up knowing we were going to lose, hey presto a 2-1 win. You're wrong so, so, so often and you hide in the sand every time until the next time you are inevitably "proved right" when you magically appear again, just like the world's least desirable virus.
You said Tom Cruise was crap, based on one reserve team match which was his first competitive match for about 9 months. You were and remain, completely wrong. You suggest that Nathan Craig is hopeless, then he gives a masterclass against Port Vale, he scores against Gillingham and the manager comes out and states that he is the best passer at the club. For every Chris McPhee you predict to be hopeless and so it proves, there are countless others who prove to be thoroughly decent (and sometimes much better) and prove you to know less about the game than the tick the vet removed from my dog's ear last week.
Nothing to do with Taylor and Knill, it may not be Taylor's fault, but it certainly has an awful lot to do with him, which is why we didn't have Southend or Sunderland on the phone begging us to release him to them to be their new manager.
As for Knill, one thought occurs. Recently, he said that he was "waiting for a call that never came" regarding a player we wanted on loan. Now, this may just be unfortunate phrasing, but if it's not, why the **** did Knill not make the call himself, rather than sitting on his arse waiting for other people (who couldn't care less about Torquay United) to call him?
In summary and to answer your initial question, yes, you're an idiot, you know less about football than the toenail I lost during a game of Lacrosse in 2009, your opinions are both malicious and meaningless for being so utterly reactionary and baseless and, for good measure, I suggest you are an unsatisfactory lover.
I bite my thumb at you, Sir.
Matt.

You are completely barking mad. We have been knocked out of every cup competition in the first round (including Harrogate) - no doubt we deserved to win that one as well. Our away record is atrocious and we have lost EIGHT games at home in the league.
As well as this we have to find wins from somewhere with Coco the Clown in goal and every chance that our main striker will be suspended after tomorrow.
No doubt you will be telling us that one or two of our players will be picked for the next England squad. Complete buffoon.

We missed two open goals in the Harrogate game that no team in history will ever miss again. We created the chances perfectly well, we just didn't stick them in. We should have won that game, if not for the performance, simply for the unmissable chances that we, somehow, missed.
We battered Yeovil and lost 5-4 on penalties which is the smallest possible distance by which a team may lose a Cup tie. They scored, if you recall (from the radio commentary, no doubt) two goals in added time in that match.
We lost in the first round of the League Cup to the best side in the competition at the time, a side who are vying for a place in the Premier League and have the financial clout to pay a seven figure sum for a Conference striker.
Your "statistics" are meaningless. If you'd like some of mine, we have lost the same number of away matches as the team in third place. We have won more home matches than the team in 7th place. We have scored just two fewer goals at home than table topping Gillingham. We have conceded fewer away goals than second placed Port Vale.
See, completely meaningless, just like everything you post.
Forever yours,
Matt.

Hmm ..... the great Brian Clough once called a Polish goalkeeper a clown before a World Cup qualifying match against England. England didn't qualify and the so-called clown kept out everything. So we shall see what happens at Gillingham .......brucie wrote:You are completely barking mad. I wish, if people are going to delete my posts, that they'd either leave the trace of the post there so people can see there has been a post, or at least let me know so I might have the opportunity to amend it myself.
Supes, the point of my posting the stats was to demonstrate that, under certain conditions, one may use stats to demonstrate almost anything. The whole point is that we are where we are in the League despite the positive looking stats I have mentioned. Equally, we are where we are (ie, still very much in with a shout of staying up) despite the stats posted by Terrence.
Tomo, comparing Tezza to Cloughie is just about the most stretched comparison that the bounds of physics will presently allow.
