Lingy probably had just had enough of this game so clicked the 'Go on Holiday' button so he can come back for the fun bit of getting a new team in the summer. I'd save our game on Saturday morning so we can exit without saving if all goes wrong.

In all seriousness bringing Ling back would be absolutely dire but not unexpected.

In response to a few recent posts: it's a fact that Martin Ling got Orient promoted, it's a fact that he got the Gulls into the play-offs. Bad managers don't do that. There are, of course, always other factors involved, which can help a promotion campaign, or contribute to a poor season.

If only Torquay managers had Man United's money! Our club doesn't have that level of finance. But it would be nice to think that it does have understanding supporters who would support their manager and give him a chance to do his job in the coming season...

I had (the misfortune) to spend a couple of years up that way around then. The ones I knew thought he did an excellent job keeping them up the first season. They coped with the points deduction the following season and caught up, only for him to have his 2 best players sold in January (when they were looking ok) for around £1.2 m and didnt even get what Bodin cost to replace them! Most of the fans I knew thought the club itself was to blame for their struggles what with the move to the Don etc. not Knill.

Its also a fact that he left Orient with them in a relegation slot and its a fact that he left Cambridge with them sliding down towards the relegation slots.

I actually enjoy brucies posts. I do not agree with a lot of them but some I do, and he always brings a little bit of comedy to the site.
Therefore he would be missed so your posts should read “you won't be missed by me” as I find it extremely tactless for you to speak on my behalf.

Would we have been having these "discussions" about the managerial capabilities of Martin, if he had not gone off on long term sick? I, for one, dont think so.

I am grateful to Alan for steeping up to the plate and, hopefully, keeping us in L2, but, fact remains that Martin Ling is, at this moment in time, the manager of Torquay United FC. Who knows what would have happened if Martin had been here all season. Things started to go badly wrong AFTER he "went away". I appreciate that the football was not the best, but we were doing ok, not setting the world on fire, but doing ok. The first game that Martin was missing was 28th January. We scrapped a 1-0 win "up the road". We then had a disastrous February, losing all 7 (Yes SEVEN) FL2 matches. From then on in it became difficult to haul that back.

I will welcome Martin back, if thats the way it goes, and hope that next season we can get back on track and the boys, with Lingy at the helm, can achieve, at least a playoff spot, as we did in his first season

One thing that I do know for sure, and that is that we must get 100% behind the team, on Sat. Nothing else matters.

Hi Richins, as you have made an accusation against me, would you like to back it up with some facts? Or will you just leave it hanging there wildly unproven and lacking credibility? I predict you'll do the latter...
Feel free to go through all of my 80 odd posts since I 'recently' joined the forum and point out all the times I have made a comment targeting people. I would take a guess the number of times I have done so, and it is very subjective to a person with a sensible viewpoint, could be counted on one hand, compared to the 'estimated' hundreds of times someone like Brucie hurls unheralded abuse at defenseless individuals.

If Brucie entertains you that's your choice, I think he comes across as frequently nasty, spiteful and cowardly, but maybe my morals are different to yours.

The Barnet goal keeper should have saved Bodens goal, & the sending off & daft own goal at Morecambe gave us a good base for the win. Eleven against eleven & it could have been a different story. Just look at the table & see where we would have been with these two games drawn, & 4 points less.

Things were going wrong BEFORE he left, we won 3 games in 13 before we beat Exeter. I can't remember if Taylor was in charge during all of February but if so the board left it too late with the fact we lost all 7 games during that month.

Things were going bad when we started sitting back refusing to change up the team despite conceding goals past the 80th minute mark god knows how many times.

I have nothing against Ling, but i am a bit worried for Torquay United should he come back and things start going wrong again next season, will Ling be able to deal with all the pressure and stress? I have nothing personal against Ling and wish him all the best. However i would much prefer we stick with Knill or look elsewhere.
