Who to sign?

With a long summer looming and what looks like a possible overhaul of playing staff in the offing I thought I would start a thread about players we should sign in the summer!!

I will get the ball rolling by bringing up a lad called Kieffer Moore. He is currently playing for Dorchester in the Blue Square South after starting the season with Truro but he lives and has grown up in Torbay. For the last 3 seasons before this he was playing SDL Div 2 and has already this season managed 20 goals in 30 games.

He is only 20 (Maybe 21) about 6ft 4, good in the air and with both feet and is lightning quick!! His manager at Dorchester has said he has the potential to be better than and go further than Charlie Austin (who he managed at Poole).

Rovers have been sniffing and on one of their forums they are already and I have posted a link to a thread which has links to some of his goals and more stories about him!!

I'll be happy with a fit and well, enthusiastic, upbeat manager who can assemble a real competitive, disciplined squad (and not merely the same starting XI) that can receive game changing instructions on the hoof, implement them to retrieve possible losing situations and finish games that are entertaining and that will propel us steadily up the division.





Am I asking for the impossible ?

If his attitude and therefore his discipline could change, I would like to see "Jekyll" stay. Hyde and "Jekyll" doesn't appear to have the same ring about it though.

Would Hyde and "Jekyll" next season be any guarantee of the Jekyll and Hyde performances of this season not repeating ?

I played alongside keiffer in his 3 seasons at sdl div 2 level. he is certainly a quality player. the best striker ive played with and i spent 5 seasons at youth level playing with ex england youth international michael nardiello so there's something to compare. Both quick tall good finisher but keiffer is easily the better player. I honestly do think he could make it at our level and should atleast be given a pre-season trial.

Most of our players are actually quite good at League Two level and the team's lack of success in recent months is not solely a reflection of individual players' abilities or loss of form. It has also been caused by a number of other factors which have been discussed at length on this forum throughout the season.

Put the wind back into their sails, in terms of motivation, ambition, self-belief, team spirit, fitness, formation, tactics, and (please, God) a manager who is back to his old (Oriental) self, and the Gulls should have an excellent season ahead with only a few changes in personnel.

Any major changes, given the state of the club's finances, would be too risky. I'm sure that those in charge of the club, having built firm foundations, know that steady and gradual progress is the sensible way forward, rather than big upheavals. Always providing that they don't deliberate for too long before making whatever decisions may be needed! Procrastination is not a desirable quality in football, any more than undue haste..

How many will be out of contract? And will that be sufficient to constitute an overhaul?

In other words, is the machine repairable, are there sufficient cheap spare parts, or is it so far gone that a complete replacement (looking in the small ads of course) will be required?

Agreed.
Halpin (is he still on the books?), Easton and Stevens. Can be let go but the rest I would be happy to see stay on for another season. They have all shown this season that they are good enough for L2 (although some of the younger lads still have a way to go to prove good enough for a regular starting berth). As you said Gullscorer, our league position this season is more about mental fitness and tactics than their ability.

What stands a professional footballer out from an amateur is consistency. Whatever the discipline the professional will be consistently better at it. What I've observed at Plainmoor this season has been consistently rank amateur. Consistently conceding late goals for starters.

I keep hearing "no one complained last season when we qualified for the play-offs".



That was last season, now it's now. Why haven't the same players consistently performed to previous levels ? Some d*ck will be on here in a minute saying "they overachieved". No one and no thing overachieves.Then there's playing/working to the maximum potential. There are plenty of people who have been fired for not consistently working to their maximum potential. That's how it is in the harsh world of dog eat dog cut throat pricing. Maximum potential, consistently meet targets or the bullet . . . . . . BANG !!!



Why should things be different for management/players at Plainmoor? Of the players contracted for next season, I say lucky you. Of the rest, I'd offer Saah and Downes terms, a couple of the young lads and that's about it.
