There aren't many professional sportsmen that consistently perform at the very best of their ability.
I'm not going to say we overachieved last season because I agree with you, that's not possible. What I will say is Olejnik and O'Kane were better than this year's replacements. And the rest of the squad did perform near the top of their ability for most of the season.
Much like when West Ham were in the Premier League a few years back, the whole team performed at their very best, they finished mid-table and were unlucky to lose to Liverpool in I think the FA Cup semi-final. They performed so well that even Marlon Harewood was scoring goals! But the next season they rested on their laurels, they thought that was there natural level, as it turned out the players weren't able to maintain the same high level and they got relegated.
Consistency is one of the reasons these players are here with us, if they had better consistency they would be playing for bigger clubs at a higher level.

This season's catalogue of failures isn't just down to the players. There'll be every excuse under the sky put forward including the weather, the pitch, lack of a proper training ground etc. etc. bleedin etc.

Who's been overseeing what's been happening with regard to training? If what I've been hearing is true (almost said fact  :whip: ) then dismissals need to occur. I know what the turgid tactics have been like, and worse, so has every opposition.

What training regimes are in place? How many hours/days are given to these regimes? What monitoring is in place? Many more questions need to be asked.

Many of the players currently with us, are at this level because they don't have the consistency to be higher? Some, many, whatever, will be at a lower level next season because they've been unable to keep consistent levels of performance at this level. When they've gone part-time, they'll have even more time away from the training ground to tw@tter on about their shiny new Rolex, shiny new girlfriend, shiny new Mercedes, etc.

"Fifteen members of United's squad have deals which expire at the end of June. Among the players under contract for 2013-2014 are captain Lee Mansell, left-back Kevin Nicholson, goalkeeper Michael Poke, winger Billy Bodin and midfielders Damon Lathrope and Nathan Craig.

Leading scorer Rene Howe has had a new deal on the table since Christmas, and United recently sounded out another four senior players, unnamed at the time, about extending their stays at Plainmoor."

Some juicy speculation* to get the dentures into. Is "Jekyll" definitely off? Is he waiting on which League we'll be in? Who are the four unnamed senior players offered new terms?

*almost said facts  :whip:

Good call !

Downes and Saah definitely.

Jarvis ? Works hard and gives his best.

Rice ? Trains hard and gives his best.

Whatever way it's looked at, from fifteen out of contract, four offered, it does suggest a mass clearout.

Trojan 67 wrote:What stands a professional footballer out from an amateur is consistency. Whatever the discipline the professional will be consistently better at it. What I've observed at Plainmoor this season has been consistently rank amateur. Consistently conceding late goals for starters.

I keep hearing "no one complained last season when we qualified for the play-offs".

:@

That was last season, now it's now. Why haven't the same players consistently performed to previous levels ? Some d*ck will be on here in a minute saying "they overachieved". No one and no thing overachieves. Then there's playing/working to the maximum potential. There are plenty of people who have been fired for not consistently working to their maximum potential. That's how it is in the harsh world of dog eat dog cut throat pricing. Maximum potential, consistently meet targets or the bullet . . . . . . BANG !!!

:O

Why should things be different for management/players at Plainmoor? Of the players contracted for next season, I say lucky you. Of the rest, I'd offer Saah and Downes terms, a couple of the young lads and that's about it.
As I see it that should mean your ok down at the UNION for the rest of the summer then providing you perform and drink them dry.
Consistantly:lol:

Hey ! Gloster ! You twerp !

Professional footballer and professional social drinker ain't alike.

For starters, professional social drinkers have a full diary and more urgent things to do than 'oof a piece of leather around a muddy park. Remember where you read it first.

You read the verbal diary 'ere.

There was a better of way of putting that.
