That's quite a shopping list!!

Lets hope the new manager can pick some of those up on a free....once they have paid up Lings contract I wouldn't imagine there will be a huge amount left in the pot.

I'd agree that we need all those in! Perhaps rice is ok for another year to see how Thompson works out.

Ling only would have been paid until the end of his rolling deal- it wasn't renewed so nothing more than July I would reckon

I expect that the players in the regular XI will be offered contracts so Saah, Downes, Howe, Jarvis, and Oastler fit this criteria.
Of the rest I'm expecting the new manager to know if there are ready replacements we can get for the same money. And he may not want such a large squad in the first place.
A criticism I would make is that there doesn't seem to have been an effective mechanism for developing the young players up to the required consistent League 2 standard. I say that based on how rarely these guys got more than 1 or 2 games in the league team before being dropped. That needs to be resolved before we offer more young boys contracts - its like we are teasing them as we don't have what it takes to bring them on - it least thats how I saw it under Ling. And I also question the point of the youth programme if we later don't develop them onto being League 2 standard.

A rolling contract does not necessarily mean that he will have to be paid another years salary. is this from the same "stable" of information that told us Ling would be back to work by now?

Well, given that Ling himself didn't know he was getting the push, it's hardly supergulls fault if his information was incorrect (given that he told us he was told by Ling himself)

Brucie please leave it mate, I swear on my children's life Martin was returning to work last Monday I was unaware as he was that he was going to be sacked on Sunday night I think it came as much if a shock to Martin as it did to everyone else. I don't want to keep arguing with you as everybody is entitled to their opinion but it seems you are on a crusade to slaughter me. I also now for a fact that he is entitled to a years money. I would refer to the LMA's statement that they will help Martin get what he is contractually entitled to. Do you really think they would make that statement if we were talking about 2 months wages i.e. May and June.

Scott the information that I posted want incorrect at the time of posting. As you rightly said the info came from Martin himself and also a player who was I'm contract negotiations was due to meet Martin yesterday to sort a new deal so I was very confident that the information was correct, but I was obviously unaware that the board was going to terminate his contract on Sunday evening as was Martin or the playing staff.

My understanding of his years rolling contract is that he always has a year left. So in January his contract would, in theory, have 1 year left. In February it wold still have 1 year left etc etc. If this is the case then I would guess he would be entitled to a years compensation.

If Thea is running the show as it is her money then she must think the money paying him off is a wise investment.

NA gull that is 100% correct Martin told me himself that he had a fantastic contract here at Torquay, if they ever sack me from that day they owe me a years salary.

Cheers mate ill try as I've said before I'm not trying to be a big shot. All I was trying to do was provide all my fellow Torquay fans to some information that I was lucky enough to be told nothing more nothing less, I'm not making things up not do I wish to argue with like minded people. I thought I was actually doing a good thing. But now I think I will just keep quiet. It seems the safest option.

You have to take brucie with a pinch of salt. It's funny really, when everything is getting negative around here, brucie starts talking sense, yet at the good times, he's an idiot who hasn't got the faintest idea...

As someone else already explained (Mid Devon maybe?) a 12 months rolling does NOT necessarily mean that. It CAN also mean that the contract is reviewed every 12 months (say in this case, each 1st July maybe?) and as long as both parties are happy, the contract continues for another 12 months. If not, the contract lapses.

What I can't understand is that why on earth would the board present the manager with this kind of contract?
I mean when Ling came here his past record was "iffy" to say the least. Ling needed Torquay more than we needed him.
Our board is comprised of businessman after all.
You would have to question why they would put up something whereby the manager could waltz off with twelve months pay if he isn't up to scratch.
