Alan Knill CONFIRMED as new Torquay manager

This was one of those worst kept secret in football situations, I do not think this appointment was ever in doubt.

Thing is with Alan Knill I have not lost sight of the fact he took over a squad who had just lost 6 on the bounce and only had 2 wins from there previous 15 games, confidence was shot and the team were in freefall, he had to build things up and did, not the first time he had done this, went into Bury under very similar circumstances, kept them up when all looked lost and then had them promoted, lets hope he can do the same here.

Now looking forward to see Knill build his own squad and what type of player comes into the club.

Kubik speaks excellent English; probably why he's assistant coach for the US national team. Probably also why he ran away and hid when I told the US team's communications guy that I wanted to speak to Kubik about Torquay United.

I'm not expecting miracles from "Tintin", just a team that competes. Middle will do for me next season. A push for promotion the season after.

When we went 0-1 down against Bristol Rovers, who thought Ling tactics (that's us f*cked, we can't score) ?

But Tintin was in charge, We had more than one forward on the prowl.
We scored 3 goals without Howe. As usual, we'll lose some next season. But at least we'll be set up as a team that will have a go and score goals.

As usual, we might not even do middle next season. We might go all out and have a whole season in the top 7 positions.

All positive stuff despite Rene probably going, how refreshing. I'm sure the few of us previously accused of being negative are now happy. I know I am and really looking forward to next season...We have the right guy in charge backed by a board with 'bottle' and I'm sure Knill will do his best to provide the performances that the fans want by filling in the gaps with people who want to play for Torquay. SO REFRESHING.

The patient wasn't well, it looked like it would become a corpse.

Tintin : head up, animated, shouting out instructions and encouragement.

The patient for all the world dead and gone, but rose like Lazarus, got well, got fit and lives to fight another season in League 2.

Knill with clinical skill saved the patient.

People (players) are always moaning on as if Torquay is up the arse end of nowhere. It's 200 miles to London and 170 to Birmingham. Is it just me who thinks that being 170 miles from Birmingham is a good thing? I've been known to drive 200 miles for dinner, it's not as though we're in Northern Ireland or the Orkney Isles, if these players are so desperate to go to London, it's a four hour drive. Given that the majority of them will be doing it in Mercedes SLKs (do any of our lot have any other car?), it's hardly a bind. I've known girls to take 4 hours to get ready to go out, so the time isn't a factor either. Seems to me like a convenient (if not very relevant) excuse to me.

what better place to come to play your football as a pro, the coast the moors either side of us, and look at how many players have ended up here and stayed when they have retired, i can name a fair few from over the years.

I don't think most young footballers are interested in the coast and countryside RR. Booze, women and going out 'being seen' are much more important to the shallow ones of which the bulk of professional football appears to be made up out of. I agree with Matt about Birmingham, if i was a player and was chased by any Birmingham clubs i'd run a mile, it's a true horror show.
