I don't know (obviously) but I would imagine that Tully may well have been offered a new contract by Exeter on (possibly quite a lot) LESS money. I would imagine the last contract that he signed was negotiated when Exeter were in League 1 and considerably more flush with money than they are now. He may just be seeking out the possibility of a move to us just to get closer to what he has been used to earning rather than trying to get more. It seems pretty commonplace with a lot of clubs now that when renegotiating contracts the player is offered less money quite simply because in most cases in the real world (i.e outside the fantasy world of the Premiership elite) there isn't the money around anymore.

To me this would be a real backward step and akin to that of the Ling signing of Mcphee. Give Tully his due, he got rejected by us ended up at Weymouth but ended up part of a successful Exeter side and even played in League 1.
He is very limited though and isn't getting any younger. He would be a poor signing in my view.

Yes,I agree, but to be fair to Ling I think that he signed Mc Phee as back up for several team positions, & was the best he could get for the money he had available. Don't forget that Mc Phee had just had a very good season at Kidderminster ( 17 goals I think ). I find it very difficult to believe that A.K. will sign Tully to replace Joe or Leadbitter. I.M.O. he is not as good as either of them, & what is the point of signing players who are not as good as existing staff.

What's wrong with Tully? Vastly experienced, knows the club, local lad (which the club needs more of,someone who the fans can relate to) played at a higher level, every time I've seen him he looked sharp, fit, forward thinking, ANYBODY IS BETTER THAN JOE LETHARGIC OASTLER. He did get the run around from Bodin last season but Bodin has that ability, shame that was the only night we ever saw it from the ponce!

Apart from being slow, of very limited quality and worse than Oastler, I can't think of any reason.

No thanks.

Is the poster who likened Tully to David Graham on something? Tully hardly set the world slight first time around?

I'd rate Leadbitter over him any day if the week. Joe Oastler the same.

I can only guess that Knill has a very good right back lined up, cos those two were both fine for me.

Don't particularly rate Tully, but do consider him a more reliable right-back than either of those we released. Oastler wasn;t a natural RB in the first place, and it showed. Leadbitter showed glimpses of quality but if he wasn;t able to oust Joe from that position, he obviously wasn't a great prospect either. Tully is an experienced player - and one that has played in that position throughout his career. Wouldn't be my choice by any means, hope we can do better. But he'd be an improvement on last season. In my opinion.

Agreed - think its unlikely that Knill would have have ditched Oastler or Leadbitter and eded u wih Tully (who is probably worse han both of them).

I'm unsure of his ability, he's getting on a bit and doesn't seem to offer anything more than what we had by Oastler. He's a trier though and clearly a more offensive threat from full back position, perhaps this is what Knill wants from his wing backs.

I think Tully is a reliable full-back, maybe more-so than those we have released but he reliably puts in Conference level performances, I just don't think he is good enough to be first choice right-back in a promotion chasing team (and laugh all you want but that has to be the thinking when looking at prospective signings abilities)

I used to stand behind the dug-out when Wes Saunders was manager and Tully was playing for us-Wes was always shouting at him to do this and do that. Basically I think Wes thought Tully lacked a football brain and couldn't be trusted to work things out for himself on the pitch. He did improve gradually though but was never consistent enough for me. Fair play to the lad for sticking at it and becoming a regular at the Greeks after being at Weymouth.
Really think he's way past his prime now though and not someone we should be looking at.

If this is true, then I am really worried about Knill's ability to attract players. He was unable to do it during his interim period and I am worried with the lack of signings when we are just 4 days away from July. Worried that we are going to just end up with players who are desperate and nobody else wants...a team full of Atienos.

I don't think it would be the end of the world if Tully was to sign.i don't know any of the ins and outs of who we are trying to sign but imagine if you were Ak and say you are trying to sign Tonge(or any other right back)and you are looking to have to pay them a relocation fee/signing on fee to get them here which might take up a decent slice of your transfer budget on IMO not one of the most important positions in the team and the chance came for you to sign someone who lives in the area and save the money to push the boat out on getting a decent striker.i am sure most would look into it
