Benyon out with a bruised brain.

Post by Brightboy »

Elliot Benyon suffered cerebral bruising on the right side of his brain during the game with Swindon on Tuesday due to a clash an opposition players knee.

Seems that it sounds a lot more serious then it actually is as he's predicted to only be out for 10-14 days, still sounds nasty though!

Sounds an awful injury to have. Get well soon Benners!

Ball and Hawley to start with Yeoman on the bench?

Why would the website say 10-14 days?

Don't believe everything you read?

For example, before the first game of the season we had "Pokey will be back for the weekend" reported.
Mmmmmm, beeeeeeeer.

It's difficult to say with certainty I would think. For instance if Hawley looks the part and is up to speed fitness wise, Benyon could be out of the starting eleven for 10-14 months.

Fair enough, guess it is tricky especially with head injuries..!

Much depends upon the severity of the bruising. Even if an unconscious person recovers and appears to return to normality, post-traumatic symptoms could occur during the following three months. These would not necessarily indicate a worsening of the condition; but more likely a part of the recovery process.

Bear in mind that this type of contusion can vary from very mild to potentially life-threatening. Better to be safe than sorry. If a player receives a second injury before the first one is properly healed, this could have serious consequences.

They have all sorts of rules about this in the NFL. 49ers QB Steve Young was forced to give up the game after he suffered too many concussions. The league is so serous about preventing brain damage that they actually put players on the DL (disabled list, basically a roster of players who won't play in the next X number of games because of injury) for a specified period of time.

I think Benners will be out for as long as it takes for the Doctors to be absolutely certain that he is ok, and that is quite rightly the way things are done.

Matt.

Do footballers actually have brain's? I thought it was all WAG's, fast cars and running around a bit. :na:
