Hi Kernow, hope you are well, totaly agree with what you say. I also have gay friends as I have said on a few replies, also what I have said is, I have no problem tolerating or accepting homosexuality, I just do not think it is right.

There is a big difference in disliking/hating, to thinking something isn't right. At no point have I actually said I dislike homosexuality or homosexuals.

I think most fair minded people will know where you are coming from Dave. Perhaps you should say it is not natural as humans rather than 'not right' and that may appease some folk. You think it is not right according to the bible and your own personal views too and I've no problem with that. What is different here is that you are tolerant, we as a nation are tolerant and understanding of different cultures and things and often we get taken advantage of by the minorities and they take the p*ss. If you were a homosexual in some other countries like you say you'd be in for a hell of a rough ride (no pun intended).

I am a non believer so I cannot possibly measure how much strength of feeling you may have for opposing homosexuality based on your beliefs but we all should treat each other as equals regardless although often it is quite difficult and you have said that this is what you do so that is good enough for me!

If some posters have difficulty in seeing where you are coming from then maybe they think they are too intelligent for their own good. In a case like this it really is a case of black and white thinking.

A gay = a human being. Treat with respect and as you would treat others. No debate really.

If Dave (or anyone else who has a strong faith in the Bible) chooses to 'tolerate' people who have different 'lifestyles' shall we say because that 'lifestyle' is not part of the Bible then I think that is fine. If we are discussing homophobia we are saying that it is a dislike of gays because of their sexuality and Dave isn't saying that. He is saying that what they are in essence he doesn't agree with but not that he doesn't like them as people. It's like someone who eats meat being friends with a vegan. The vegan may not agree with that friend eating meat but they tolerate it and they can get along despite these 'lifestyle' differences.

To have a sexual or non sexual relationship with another of the same sex may be considered not natural for humans, you could argue that a 90 year old man going out with a 20 year old woman is not natural and I personally would find it bloody weird and to be honest I don't really understand the mechanics behind why people are gay. It's a can of worms really.

I'll stop here as i'm getting myself confused and in the words of Alan Partridge, I don't want to get bogged down in a whole gay hornets nest or indeed a gay nest of vipers.

If a comment is not intended to be homophobic but is badly expressed and so comes across as homophobic, it is not homophobic. If the recipient of a comment perceives it to be homophobic and is offended, but the comment is not intended to be homophobic, then it is not homophobic, even if it appears to be so. Words and expressions can have more than one interpretation. One person may express him or her self badly, another may misinterpret the message, and so communication breaks down. But these are separate issues. Intention and motive are everything, when trying to judge whether somebody is or is not being homophobic. Or racist. Or sexist. Or whatever.
