I just self administered 3 very large whiskeys and I think 18 points is more than doable.

I' m a sucker for a happy ending! :'(

Crazy price. We are woefully adrift and have lost 22 games winning 9 out of 40. We should be at least 100/1 and even then I wouldn't risk a penny on it.
it seems like I try to explain the concept of betting odds and making a book every year. suffice to say, the reason that it's 10-1 is because clearly some people are taking 10-1. why make it a more generous price when you're already seeing decent business at 10-1?
Plus, they're probably not seeing a lot of Torquay to go down (even if there were offering 1-12 to make it a decent overround) which obviously means they have an unbalanced book,

you'd dream of a run in of

Bristol
Dagenham
Exeter
Mansfield
Wycombe

but we need to start scoring, i think we'd need 4 out of 6 wins to just stay up, even with that it will be very close!

Its not over yet, but time is almost up
4 wins won't be enough Plainmoorroar. We need 5 wins which would give us 51 points and even that might not be enough the way the league is looking. 4 wins and 2 draws would give us 50 points but with our goal diference, that won't be enough. I'd like to have an optimistic attitude like Sam but sorry to say that realism kicked in after the Newport game.

There was an article in the Herald about these 18 points being all we had left to reach the target CH himself set of 54 points. It also suggests, somehwat optimistically, that we are 'just' 7 points behind, as though that isn't very much when you have 18 to claim.

Maybe not, if you had the remotest prospect of winning any of those games but for a team that has won 9 out of 40, winning 6 out of 6 - in fact even scoring in 6 out of 6 - is as likely Lord Lucan riding into town on Shergar.

The 7 points behind is a misnomer anyway. We need 8 to overcome Wycombe and to do that you need to use up 3 games (3 straight wins) and hope they do not gain a single point during those 3 games, or use up 4 games (2 wins and 2 draws) and again, hope Wycombe lose 4 games, and then at least match their results in the other 2 or 3, depending how the 8 points are achieved.

The problem is that Wycombe have three rather easy games coming up. Each point they gain, because they will surely gain at least 1 means the whole formula of what is needed changes again. They could easily get 4 points from that run, meaning we need 12 points...and all the while we have to hope that Northampton don't pick up points as well...

to catch Northampton we need 4 or 5 points - that would use up at least 2 games to make that up, and then match them for final 4 games.
to catch Wycombe 8 points (described above)
to catch Portsmouth 10 points (would use up 4 games - that we have to win and they have to lose)

It is a hopeless task and it's not going to happen. Conference football is inevitable and has been for weeks, in fact months.

Well let's start with Scunthorpe on Saturday. Our team of crap midfielders, strikers that couldn't score if the goal was doubled in size and a defence that gifts at least one soft goal per game. Their team, heading for promotion. So are we going to win that one? Then Bristol Rovers etc etc etc etc. 0 points frm 6 games, relegation awaits us.

It's almost certain that 18 points would be enough to stay up.
It's almost certain that we won't get 18 points.

The fact is we have to win 5 out of 6, and that has to start with Scunthorpe. Impossible? Of course not. Realisticly? We're screwed :) I've stayed possitive for a very long time, possibly up until last weekend... Not any more, we've all got more chance of flying to the moon.

The even bigger problem is that this is not in our own hands. If we were already above the relegation "line" then "all" we would have to do would be to, at least, mirror the results of the clubs below us. As we are having to play "catchup" with only 6 games and 18 points to play for it's got to be nigh on impossible.

Its not just winning 5/6 games, its hoping that the likes of Wycombe, Northampton, Bristol Rovers etc lose. Even if these clubs lose their remaining games, if we, also lose them all, we are down. If we win our remaining games, again, if the two clubs above us do likewise, we are down. We have just slipped so far behind with a string of unbelievable losses.

F*** me some of you are stupid, never said we WILL win all six, said it wasn't impossible and are winnable. Plus, as clearly as I could, I stated it was very optimistic.

But he didn't, and they're not. Posters are simply full of pessimism, criticism, and negativity. Nothing new here... :(
