Travel Distances 2014/15

Post by Louis »

"Torquay United fans will have to travel over 10,000 miles if they plan to see every league match their side plays next season. Below is a list of the journey distances (based on Plainmoor to the other teams ground). With just one game below 100 miles (and that one being just under!), Gulls fans will certainly see a lot of the road over the next 12 months..:
AFC Telford – 207.9
Aldershot – 165.1
Alfreton – 242.9
Altrincham – 248.9
Barnet – 224.3
Braintree – 274.2
Bristol R – 99.4
Dover – 264.8
Eastleigh – 131.4
Forest Green – 125.2
Gateshead – 384.9
Grimsby – 322.8
Halifax – 294.3
Hereford – 150.2
Kidderminster – 167.5
Lincoln – 272.3
Macclesfield – 244.2
Nuneaton – 202.2
Salisbury – 113.6
Southport – 277.8
Welling - 223.5
Woking – 170.4
Wrexham – 234.6
One way journeys will see the team travel 5042.4 miles, so the grand round-trip total breaks the 10,000 mile mark, with 10,084.8 miles being undertaken over the course of the season. As expected, Bristol Rovers' Memorial Stadium is our localist match, with a 198.8 mile round trip. At the other end of the scale, the journey to the International Stadium in Gateshead will see the boys travel roughly 770 miles in total. The average journey for the season stands at 438.5 miles, so that works out to just under 220 miles each way.

I suppose we'd best get used to the sight of the M5 once again!"

Are the club able to finance overnight stays next season or are the team travelling on match days?

During the Bateson era the team once travelled up to Huddersfield and back in a day.

Some horrendous journeys in there, although for those able to afford it, some nice wee weekends away are possible.

Gateshead & Southport are possibles for the Gourock Gulls, being from the opposite end of the country! Fingers crossed those trips aren't in the winter.

£12 bargain basement home top at the ready!

Gawd - I hope they sort out a new team bus. The one they used last season broke down two or three times and couldn't even make it back from Cheltenham. No chance it'll get back from Gateshead. Wonder if it would be more economical to fly from Exeter to Newcastle ?
