Post by WestKentGull »

Very bored at work, so scanning through a Wiki page listing all the clubs in English football (down to Step 10).... got me thinking as to how many grounds I've actually visited in my years of watching football both with Torquay and my adopted team Tonbridge Angels (Ryman Prem League for those of you who don't look that far down the leagues)...and a few 'one-offs'.

So, here goes: (those in bold visited more than once)

I just wish I had been able to see a match at gretna before i folded. talk about a short lived club. having been there i cant see how it could have supported a team bigger than Tiverton town. maybe even smaller. the town of gretna itself is a few dozen houses. But the community certainly supporter the team all the shops. what there were of them had flags. bunting and scarves in their windows. shame it was all done on one mans money.

Fair play to you mate. I see you went Springfield in Wigan, was that when fash played(and Martinez ) 0-0. With all that impressive list suprised you didn't go Carlisle to witness the great escape under warnock, lol

Some of these matches were not United ones. I watched many teams over the years for various reasons. Not Like Andy of Course. But because I was there at the time of in a position where i could go to Plainmoor. I also followed Rovers for a while when i was unable to get to Plainmoor and the Wigan Match at Springfield park was not that long after they got into the league. I was informed maybe errantley that Wigan had been getting rather large crowds when they got into the league. so armed with my trusty scarf I went up with others to find we were stuck i a huge crowd on Boxing day one year. there must have been close to 20,000 all trying to get into that stadium. there was a small but nevertheless important little point we had missed. it was the rugby ground and we were on the wrong side of Wigan. . we eventually made it to the right side of town only to sit in misery on a wet day watching the most heart wrenchingly awful game I have witnessed in all my time watching the beautiful game. indeed there was nothing beautiful about anything that day except the exit.
The far northern games have more or less eluded me due to cost and distance. One day maybe. one day. Only seen some of the north east grounds due to visiting other people during holiday times. although. Northumbergull did give me a guided tour of Newcastle's St James Park a few months ago. I can't get around as well as i used to so it's gonna be a long and hard road.
One match worth mentioning was a friendly between Red Star Belgrade and Crewe. i was training up there at the time.
