How will we do this season
More optimistic since CH left.. Corey at least seems to have a plan B, and although may not win many matches by loads of goals I think we will be competitive and not fall apart through lack of effort/structure like we did last season..
I think we may well surprise a few people especially when Luke Young is back (with maybe one more additional "old head" on loan??, and a tall striker to get on the end of Exedos's throw-ins (eg Malaci against the Grecians) - will finish between 9th and 13th ..

FFT are pretty bad in their Conference coverage. I always buy their season preview but their predictions for the Conference are usually wildly off base due to their lack of interest in the league, their prediction of 19th for us just smacks of someone reading 'financially constrained, new manager, largely new team' and not looking any further into it. Ironically they actually got our finishing place last season pretty correct.yellowforever wrote:I see that FourFourTwo have given us the quite frankly ridiculous prediction of 19th for this season.
Anyway, 6-10th if Luke Young is fit and we manage to get in another decent loans this week. I think Cox will make us very hard to beat and that's half the battle. Next season with us rid of the gardener's wages and maybe even some extra investment, we should be able to make a decent push for the play offs. If Young is injured for months then I think a similar finishing position to last year but with much better performances vis what we have at our disposal and the budget we have.
We will win the league and despite the tough start we will have 12 points by 31st August. Can't wait for Saturday.

Barrow now have a mega-rich backer who wants to" put something back into his home town"-don't know how much he's put in though.AlexGulls wrote: I could be wrong but I think Barrow have some money behind them or did last season at least. Not sure about the rest.
As for us I think we'll be mid table this season but with no pressure to be near the top we might surprise a few people by not having the expectation we have had in the past.
Aldershot and Kidderminster are also working from similarly constrained budgets to us.

Only if it's a wig. Last time I saw him he was completely bald! 18th to 24th I'd saywivelgull wrote:I wonder if Les Lawrence still has an Afro; I believe that they're coming back into fashion. Otherwise: about 9th or 10th, I'd say.

Lower mid table.our only problem will be injuries and suspensions but next season with growing resources could be our time.

I think we'll be mid-table but really it's impossible to tell given the amount of new faces.
It look like we've assembled the kind of side that has enough talent to do alright. If the squad gels together (last year's did not), we could form a good team spirit, punch above our weight and surprise a few people. If it doesn't work out for a few of the new boys, many of whom were plying their trade at lower levels last season, and if injury interrupts our form, we might struggle.
I think we'll be a solid team, difficult to beat and not particularly pretty, but efficient and direct.

Heart says scraping the playoffs with a stronger defensive display than last year.
Head says somewhere just below the playoffs.
The exciting part is that it's not very long till the season starts =D

And that is the correct attitude for the players to have, if you aren't aiming for the top then what is the point?

Completely agree, he also states 'the lads are all up for it'. Thats certainly a confidence boost for me!
