My health has taken a turn for the worse this week, but I hope to post a full response to BobBobBob before too long, on both the EU question and on his other pet subject. In the meantime, this article should be illuminating for those who will open their eyes:

According to opinion polls the referendum result could be rather close. Ladbrokes are offering odds of 9/4 for Remain to win 50-55% of votes, and 9/2 for Leave to win 50-60% of votes. Other bookmakers are offering similar odds.

Assuming my arithmetic is correct, and assuming the result is within 5% either side of the 50% mark, if you put, say, £36 on each of those possibilities, you will lose one of the bets, but you will end up with an overall profit of either £45 or £126.

And if you put an additional £36 bet for Remain to win 55-60% of votes at 2/1 (making a total outlay of £108), you will still either break even overall or win a £9 or £90 overall profit.

Plus £36 (one of your original outlays).

So you cannot lose!

Probably.. :)

UPDATE: Odds have changed; currently 2/7 Remain, 11/4 Leave. The way things are going, you'd do best to put a single bet on 'Leave' before the odds change much more. And all these calculations are hurting my head even more than normal..

Rigging the vote?
http://www.ukipdaily.com/call-to-battle/

‘The people who cast the votes don’t decide an election, the people who count the votes do.’
Joseph Stalin

'National sovereignty is the root cause of most of the evils of our time. The only final remedy for this supreme and catastrophic evil is a federal union of the peoples.' Quotation on the wall at the EU Visitors Centre in Brussels.

'The Tories have been indulging in their usual double talk. When they go to Brussels they show the greatest enthusiasm for political union. When they speak in the House of Commons they are most anxious to aver that there is no commitment whatever to any political union.' Labour MP Hugh Gaitskell, October 1962.

‘If it’s a Yes we will say “on we go”, and if it’s a No we will say “we continue”.’ Jean Claude Junker.

'It is an illusion to think that [EU] states can hold on to their autonomy.' Hans Tietmeyer, head of the Bundesbank, 1991.

'There is no question of Britain losing essential national sovereignty.' Prime Minister Edward Heath.

'Europe’s nations should be guided towards the superstate without their people understanding what is happening. This can be accomplished by successive steps, each disguised as having an economic purpose, but which will eventually and irreversibly lead to federation.' Jean Monnet, 1952

Finally, strange isn't it, that the Scottish National Party wants Scottish 'independence' from the UK, but wants to subsume Scotland into an EU superstate..

Why? http://www.ukipdaily.com/the-question-is-why/

EU RED tape is potentially “killing people” because it is delaying the marketing of new drugs by years and forcing research laboratories across the UK to close. The shocking revelations by top medical research professors in Britain has added fuel to the drive to get Britain to throw off Brussels rule. The disastrous regulations in the EU’s Clinical Trials Directive forced on Britain in 2004 has seen the UK global share of research plummet from 12 per cent to just one per cent. According to very senior figures they are delaying vital testing of drugs for years and then delaying allowing them to be marketed by years more. Smaller research facilities have been forced to close down because of the regulatory burden imposed by the EU in rules lobbied for by large corporations.

Lord Rose the leader of the in campaign is fast becoming the out campaign's best weapon, not only has he already admitted wages would rise if we left the EU, he's now admitted this;

“What we’re trying to do,” he said hotly, “is give a general direction of travel. And what it proves is that actually, the benefits of being in the EU are outweighed by the costs!”
