We are consistently in the bottom 10 of attendance figures & since 1973 our attendances have virtually shrunk by half , Stockport, York, Hereford, Wrexham, Orient, Hartlepool, Chesterfield etc could all have the same argument they should have more rights than Boreham wood & us .
It is sad we're where we've ended up but size has nothing to do with it. It's how you run your club that matters & all of the 'ex league clubs' now in the National league system have had issues that's why we're here with them, not because the size of our crowds.

Teign makes a very good point. We were one of the poorest supported clubs whilst in the Football league and one of the most mediocre to boot, spending just 10 out of 53 seasons above the bottom division since the creation of the 4th Division.

Of course we were a very small club when we were in the Football League, and no one has a divine right to keep their League status. This season more than ever needs everyone behind the Manager, fully supportive of him, the players, and his playing ethos. Onwards and upwards.

We might well be one of the smallest league clubs by numbers, but our away following in the last few years has been/is phenomenal for a club of our size. Especially as we have, on the whole, been so abysmal on the pitch. Thank you Gary for giving us all the joy of seeing us at the top of the league, long may it continue.

I think its fair to say that we are a better supported club than Boring Wood.

I'm sorry but their attendance of 250 odd on Saturday along with their ludicrous goal music was quite frankly ridiculous.

Glad I'm not the only one who was baffled by that ridiculous music.

I don't think anyone is suggesting we have a god given right to be a league club based on our size of support, merely that the fan base could support league football, especially when you look at the likes of Accrington and others. It does require better off field activities than Plainmoor can support, as I always say, Eastleigh have a constant list of events and any time I drive by their ground it's full of people and their artificial pitches are always utilised. That's where Osborne is right in that we do need a ground and facilities to support the club BUT does anyone believe he would actually build it?

What should/might work, to increase attendances, would be to significantly reduce ticket prices for certain matches. Other examples of this seem to work, Bradford City are a prime example, who despite very poor results and performances in recent times, have had large attendances, because of inexpensive tickets. Ipswich Town recently reduced prices for their televised Friday match against West Bromwich Albion and attracted close on 23,000, whereas the average for previous games was around 14-15,000. If Torquay are playing a south east club in mid-week, attractive prices may add a thousand on the gate or even more, and boost the vocal support. Just an idea, I am not sure if this has been tried recently at Plainmoor, certainly not for any matches I have attended of late. Additionally, more needs to be done within the Torbay area to promote our fabulous club.

At present, the League doesn't permit artificial pitches. This might change in the future because the F.A. does.

Last I checked, it's the 11 players on the pitch who decide what happens, not the throng in the stands.
