Talk about wes saunders, i seem to recall that he started life at Torquay as a midfielder and was overweight and probably one of the worst midfielders we have had in the last few decades. When he was moved to centre half and having lost weight, WOW what a transformation. IN my opinion Wes was probably the best defender i've seen in a Torquay shirt. Can anybody tell me who are manager was when he signed?

Dave Smith I think, in fact yes it was.
Smith was sacked & John impey took over, it was also the season when Wes got in the way of the flying kettle propelled by a certain Mr T Tynan.
Wes is still a family friend as well as his bro in law Matty Elliot.
You'll never know how deeply hurt Wes was when his own tenure as manager came to an end. In fact He's never managed again, went into the football agents game.
Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne cleaned Wes" boots whilst they were at the Toon !

Thanks Teigngull. I would never in a million years remember that it was Dave Smith. I completely forgot about him once being our manager. I now can picture Smith. wasn't he a shortish guy with a bald top of the head and longish hair on each side.

Yep a jolly Scot, who also managed Argyle successfully ( to a point ) I think.
If I remember correctly he always wore a tartan flat cap type of head gear, he also was a bit of a poet but didn't know it !

Wes didn't lose weight, he was decoked. But the correspondent is correct, he was terrible when he arrived (for £60000) but after the decoking he was great. The 'kettle-wielding veteran' - whatever happened to him?
