Torquay United v Southend United Sat 25 Feb KO 3pm

Post by portugull »

United entertain Southend at Plainmoor and it is so difficult to predict the result. We know what we want but which team will turn up?

Will it be the team who deservedly beat Barnet last Saturday or the team who allowed Dorking to score 3 goals when in numerous games before Tuesday night Dorking had hit the net once.

I am hoping both Asa Hall and Dan Martin will be in the line up and Lewis Collins will at the very least be on the bench.

A tight game and 1-0 to the Gulls if we shape up, concentrate, mark tightly, stop ball watching, and be disciplined, no rash tackles near goal. and take our chance when it presents itself.

Martin hasnt played for 6 months so why on earth would you play him in prefeence to 6 other fitter players we seem to have avaolable in that position.

Cant see Collins being back. With Evans out we look light on offensive players. No doubt he Hanson and Mcgavin in midfield.

Cant see a victory myself - hope i'm wrong.

Agree too early for Martin and good as he is going forward don't think defensively he is that great.
Would play Wyatt in front of Moxey on left
I think McGavin is a bit of a luxury but who else is there if Halls not fit ?
The Dorking defeat has certainly put the pressure on to get at least 4 points from these two home games. We just cannot seem to string two wins together, we are always playing catch up.

Another nail biting afternoon in store.
Will it be Jeckyl or Hyde ? Nobody knows , but Johnson needs to get them up for it as time is running out fast !

Just to depress us even more as if we needed it, if we beat southend tomorrow and I think we will , southend go to the high court on the 1st march for their winding up case ( third appearance), if they are declared bankcrupt and susbsquently thrown out of the league will all the results be expunged?

Result might be academic by the end of the month with them still facing a winding up order. Apparently the chairman is trying to borrow £5 million to pay off the taxman, but I can't see anyone stepping up with the club losing £2 million a year.

Expect a big away following. This could be their last ever game.

It will be a long day for their players. Probably no overnight hotel, team bus will want cash up front before moving, not much motivation for the players if they're not being paid.
While they live in hope, the reality is that every week they are in existence the debts increase and for every fan that says the premier league, the EFL and the FA should do more for grassroots football, you can't spend more than your income or this is the result.
Southend are currently in the playoffs and gambling that promotion will ease their debts. In essence they sre being funded by the taxpayer to the tune of about 5 million. This is not fair on all the other well run clubs in the league (not many of them though). As fans we moan about players leaving us to go to clubs for more money, but if we can't pay big wages then we can't have these players without ending up like Southend.
Put simply, If you want the club to do better, then you have to go through the turnstile every week, encourage your mates to go, go a bit earlier and have an extra beer or coffee, buy a programme or chips etc,
Sorry for the ramble.

Collins concussion protocol should be complete
So he should therefore be available

Actually got a forward on the bench today. But what has happened to Omar, is he injured or had a falling out with Johnson?
