Well I have been going to Plainmoor even longer than gullintwoplaces but that was a truly embarrassing performance which has to be down to Johnson and Downes.
You can often tell a bad team by their lack of shape and boy where we bad. 3-5-2 does not work period.
15 weeks ago we played Wrexham at Plainmoor and 6 of todays starters played. But look who did not. Nico Lawrence, Tom Lapslie. Kevin Dawson. Frank Nouble and Dean Moxey who came on at Half Time. At least 3 of those 5 are still with us but not fit to start.
We need very urgently a specialist Right Back and an experienced Center Back. If we fail to get them we are doomed to a miserable season which could really be the beginning of the end for Torquay United. I am serious.
Aaron Downes was a superb Center Back as a player but clearly he is no coach. Hugely disappointed with him.
I have tried to be constructive in criticising my team but today was shambolic and without Mark Halstead it could have been 0-6 we were so off the pace. Modern football needs fitness, athleticism, pace and a competitve spirit and I am not seeing that in this team.

Well, I have to agree with almost all the previous posts.

Worst, most spineless performance I can remember. When your keeper is MOTM and you lose 0-3 it says it all. Halstead was generally excellent and pulled off a couple of worldie saves - if his performance had matched the rest of the team it would have been 0-7.

All match we managed 6 attempts (only one before HT) and only 2 were on target, neither looking like beating the keeper. Indeed, he will have had few more relaxing afternoons than this one. But, I have to say, Worthing came with a great game plan, stuck to it and created chance after chance. Well done to their coaching team. If I had one criticism of them it was that they overplayed at times because it was so easy to cut through our joke of a defence.

I was one of those who clapped them off - they played good football throughout making our hoofball look what it is - outdated and clueless.

Agree about the reaction to the substitution of McGavin but I blame the management - it has been clear for over 12 months that he and Hanson do not have what it takes. Not a surprise that GJ didn't want to face the Radio Devon interviewers.

Finally, a comment about recruitment. I find it imcomprehensible that we have not strengthened the centre of defence - Tomlinson had a 'mare, he is clearly not ready for senior football, whilst Craske and Jenkins-Davies look distinctly lightweight. Da Silva looked more promising late on but his team mates seemed reluctant to let him have the ball - presumably because they didn't want to be shown up!

Time is running out for the management team already.

Johnson has to go. It's that simple. Agreed, monotone, uninspiring. I'd like to see him get a post match interview with a real football journalist, this guy sucks up to him every time, never asks a hard question and lets him drawl on.

It really is a sad state of affairs, we are all Gulls fans and today hurts, being in this league hurts, some fans I sense are happy to,"enjoy the ride" and are almost accepting of 6th tier regional football, but for someone who first saw Gulls in 1983, this isn't good enough, we can all finger point and blame GJ but it's bigger than just him, I'm just gutted for the fans who went today and witnessed this display..It needed a bigger clear out in the summer, and I think the mentality isn't there, i do actually feel for McGavin, I get no pleasure in posting this but his confidence must be shot, even this level is beyond him, it's disappointing to read GJ hasn't got the courtesy to speak with the fans or applaud them, yet celebrates a meaningless friendly with his first pumping and chest thudding, it's pretty obvious now the players aren't listening to him or the messages he's giving aren't working, it needs a fresh change and a freshen up...Just a shame i need to even post this tonight, gutted.

On a different note, we never saw enough of him in a Gulls shirt, but how good was Ricky Aguair?, Weird he played two games and never featured again, when I saw him very briefly he actually looked okay, he probably had a point to prove today

Disappointed and angry I really cannot find the words to our home start of a 3-0 defeat, albeit full credit to Worthing for doing a number on us. To award our GoalKeeper MotM says it all - we should have lost 6-0. Missing our busy players, says Gary - really! If the one's on the field aren't good enough (or busy enough), then don't play them. I'd rather see youth players give it a proper go and lose then watch so called professionals throw the towel in.

I thought our full-time training schedule was about intensity, concentration, speed—a high level of performance. But I begin to wonder because what happens in training manifests itself on the game field. And what happened on the field of play today was disgraceful. A simple message to the manager and players is if you lose and supporters believe you gave your best, it’s not a problem. But if you lose in a limp way…then you will be deservedly criticised .

Pre-match we warm up with triangles, give and move, shooting practice. Why bother when we don't play as a passing team but opt for long hopeful balls, and then hardly have an attempt on goal. Pity we couldn't learn from last season's failings, and from watching other teams play us off the park.
The saying 'Modernise or die' comes to mind.

Inept, incompetant, embarassing, easy to say but so true of Torquay this afternoon, Johnson said midweek we have done our homework on them, what
exactly did that involve, ten minutes of youtube or perhaps you sent someone to watch them , they must have gone to the wrong ground, because your tactics this afternoon were non existent. Tomlinson must not play for us again, his lack of ability means he would struggle playing against a youth team. Donnellan cannot play in midfield, he is lightweight and likes to play the game slowly at his pace, because to be fair he has no pace, he was the preverbial rabbit in the headlights all afternoon until he was saved from further punishment by being withdrawn. Hall was having to play so deep first half just to protect the backline, I am glad Jenkin Davies was subbed, It saved him from anymore pain because they roughed him to such an extent I thought his mum might come on at any moment to shout at the nasty worthing players and take him home, he is clearly not quite ready for grown up football especially within a struggling team.
Worthing has so much space all afternoon they drove a train through us time and time again, several times I checked to see whether they had more players on the park than us.
With Dawson long term out, we now have Lapaslie with a re-occuring injury, we can now add Craske who obviously did his hamstring and Moxey couldnt run due to stretching for a tackle, Halstead was screaming at Johnson to get a sub ready, Johnson was just standing there staring into space apparently on another planet, add to this, marshall and crowe are out of favour I am not even sure that we can put out a team Tuesday.

I am still angry about that first goal, winger given time to look up put the ball over for a simple free header, so bloody easy. Pathetic

thought Aguair was decent when he was here before but like a few others he never really got a chance. How can we possibly win a game when we have a midfield comprising the likes of Mcgavin, Hall, Hanson or Donellan. Obviously Hall was a great player but his legs have gone. The other 3 Donellan inculded are nowhere good enough, all too slow for starters.

Withg the current persononnel I cant see thhe manager can do nything to adrdess this slide, the midfield and defence is simply nowhere near good enough I'm afraid.

There must have been 40-50 yards between the centre halves at the start of that counter, easy

Well, were do we start, deliberately gave myself time to calm down, not post in an angry state. I aired in my opinion that 3-5-2 doesn't work with the players we've got during pre-season, also stated I thought an injury and a suspension to a couple of key players and we'd be an ordinary team, well no Lapslie even in the squad today, so I'm guessing he's only managed 1 game before injury, and boy did it show.

What's more embarrassing than that pathetic, spineless performance that saw us barely string two passes together all game , and personally I don't remember a shot on target prior to the 85th minute, or the fact that Gary Johnson didn't do what any man, with any honour would have done after that game and announce his resignation, for the sanity of us all, maybe even the future of our club, someone grow a pair and get rid of this , arrogant, stubborn man, and he's coward as as well, doesn't he just love to run and hide leaving Downes and players to face the flack.

We're playing with three centre backs, one who should be in midfield, and two youngsters, playing three at the back and flooding numbers forward when you have no pace in midfield, suicide, Stobbs and Collins two potent and dangerous wide forward players being used as wing backs , Hall who probably cost a huge chunk of the budget should have retired, or been released, and no back up striker, this is all down to GJ, am I the only who can see the stupidity of all this, at least give a fighting chance by putting out a balanced , organised team, with the players we have available I'd be looking at 4-2-3-1, not saying that would work, however Stobbs, Collins would have more freedom, and the two deep laying midfielders can give some protection to our weak back four. Today I felt truly sorry for Halstead, he stopped this from being a total massacre, and the only player who should be having the day off tomorrow.

To our new found friends from Worthing, I really do think you took a lot of the pre-match posting out of context, however, feel a great sense of pride in your team and manager, came with areal plan executed it very well, your passing and movement off the ball was first class, add a little more quality and take our keeper out of today equation and you'd have won by a much bigger margin.
