Every year, International Women’s Day helps celebrate achievement, raise awareness of discrimination and take action on gender parity. This year is no different, and although big strides have been made in the national sport in which Torquay United partakes, now is not a time to be complacent. This year, IWD’s campaign theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion’, giving all the opportunity to celebrate diversity and empowerment on International Women’s Day 2024 and beyond. International Women’s Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere, and is not country, group or organization specific. Torquay United is privileged to not only have a vibrant, successful and thriving women’s team, but in its captain and United #HerGameToo ambassador Danni Wyatt, The Gulls possesses a wonderful representative of the women’s game. Next weekend will see Danni head to Stamford Bridge after being nominated to take part in #HerGameToo’s Passionate Player weekend, and ahead of that, Wyatt explained of her pride in representing her hometown club on IWD 2024. “International Women’s Day is so important,” said Danni. “It’s such a positive mark for women in all areas of life, within sport and especially football. I couldn’t be prouder to be a woman in the game today. “There’s room for improvement globally and on a massive scale, but for now we take pride in our achievements on days like today, where we can feel celebrated.” Where can I find out more about International Women’s Day?
