[OS] NEXT UP | Chesham United (26/08/24 3pm KO)

Post by TorquayFans.com »

United head to Buckinghamshire on Bank Holiday Monday, as Paul Wotton’s men take on Chesham United at The Meadow. With three wins from four seeing The Gulls take third place in the fledgling National League South table, Torquay will be looking to continue that good run of form tomorrow.   Who’s The Boss? Image There are two main men in the Chesham dugout, with James Duncan and Michael Murray getting close to celebrating six years as a successful double-act in charge of The Generals. Consecutive seasons of steady progress included a 5th-place finish in 2022–23, however their promotion play-off dreams were ultimately ended by Bracknell Town at the semi-final stage. Chesham were not to be denied last term though, as a memorable campaign saw them crowned Southern League Premier Division South champions, and with it, promotion to the National League South.   How Are They Doing? A 2-1 away win at St Albans saw Duncan & Murray’s men claim their first three-point haul of 2024/25, with their four points from four games beginning with an opening day draw at Eastbourne. Chesham will be keen to improve their home form quickly though, with their opening two matches at The Meadow ending in 2-1 defeats against Boreham Wood and Weston-super-Mare.   Player to Watch Image The travelling Yellow Army won’t need much reminding of Nathan Minhas, after the striker notched an impressive opener for previous club Slough Town in last season’s clash against The Gulls. 26 year-old Minhas honed his goalscoring prowess at Southern League Premier South Beaconsfield Town, where he bagged over 50 goals in two seasons for The Rams. 17 goals for Slough was proof of his ability to adapt to a higher level, and it was therefore with much delight that Chesham announced the signing of the former Billericay and Hampton & Richmond frontman earlier this summer.   Played for Both Image Gulls midfielder Roddy Collins has very recent – and pleasant – memories of being a General, with the Irishman playing a key role in last season’s Southern League Premier South championship-winning success. After beginning his career in Ireland with Monaghan United, moves to Athlone Town, Derry City, Drogheda and Waterford followed, before Roddy headed over the water for his first taste of English football with Hemel Hempstead Town. Further stints at Hayes & Yeading and Kings Langley followed, but it was his all-action displays in the Chesham engine room that really captured the attentions of Gulls boss Paul Wotton, who swooped to make Collins one of his first signings this summer.   Previous Encounter Image Chesham United 0 – 1 Torquay United | FA Trophy | Saturday 19th December 2020 During a season where Gary Johnson’s Torquay United went within a whisker of reclaiming their EFL status, The Gulls also dispensed of Chesham during a decent FA Trophy run. In a tight encounter, United eventually came out on top against in a behind-closed-doors 3rd Round clash at The Meadow. After a goalless first 45 minutes, Josh Umerah’s goal just after the break was enough to separate the two sides, as Torquay made their way safely through to the Round 4.   Ticketing & Parking Information Turnstiles will open at 1pm with food & drink available to all supporters Supporters are advised to purchase online if possible, as this is the quickest way to enter the ground.
