Personally I know very little of the guy. Does anybody know if he is any good, and if he would ever step up to be a number 2 perhaps to the right manager?

I think he is still basically a kid...perhaps 25 at the oldest. I wouldn't have thought he was ready to work with the first team just yet.

I have had a number of dealings with matt Williams he is a good football coach,however short answer,no,not even close to being ready to step up at the moment.

So, next genuine question then. What makes his lack of experience any different to that of somebody like Hargreaves (little coaching experience), and Kevin Phillips (little to no experience).

I'd assume the fact that he hasn't ever played proffesional football.

Its not anything to do with his lack of coaching experience,not going to go down the road of publicly giving my opinion on Matt Williams have met him personaly a number of times,however there is one huge difference in these three names.

Chris hargeaves,Kevin Phillips both ex-professional footballers which gives them more than amassive insight into professional football management,Matt Williams acually not sure if he ever has played football at any level certainly was never a pro,and as pointed out is still very young.

And a lack of credibility too. But you are right to point out the lack of coaching experience that CH and KP have. Reasons why I would not choose them as our next manager.

Sure, being an ex pro (and only recently giving up in the case of Greavsie) probably does give them an advantage in the way of having an insight into management, but doesn't necessarily mean they will be any good as a manager (not that anybody on this thread has suggested they will be)

Just thought, as a way of saving the club some money, if Williams was any good he may have stepped up into the number two role, or maybe become part of the first team step up, giving him a bit more insight in the first team affairs.

Matt is a fine fellow and someone I know.

While we're touting for potential managers, why not name a programme seller or pitch recovery specialist.

As it happens, I reckon Aussie could do a forking good in the dressing room and wouldn't be afraid to stick it up'm.

Well not to sure why people keep coming up with this lack of coaching experience from,i know its at a different level , what coaching experience or previous managment jobs did David O'Leary have before he took Leeds to the champions league semi-final,seeing off the likes of Barcalona and AC milan along the way,on the flip side what sort of playing careers did the likes Fergie,and Ron greenwood have before one went onto become the most sucsessful manager in british football and the other manage England.

get your point about saving money,two better options Robbie Herrera,and Goeff harrop,one ex-pro,one with tonnes of coaching experience.

The answer to the question then is no, not at this moment in time. Pros, for some reason, look down their noses at people who have not played the game.

Pretty decent ones actually. Fergie played for Rangers and Dunfermline (when they were one of the top Scottish sides), Greenwood played in the Chelsea side that won the league back in the fifties.

Better examples would have been, Arrigo Sacchi, who never played pro football and went on to create arguably the greatest club side ever at AC Milan in the Eighties,or Jose Mourinho.

Strangely enough, i was going to point out "the translator" as a perfect example. Also "Arse" had very little pro footie experience before moving into coaching.
