On the subject of building from the back, and goalkeepers in particular, when is Luke McCormick's release date ? :|

Well we can all agree on the fact that geographically we can't attract the very best players.....I'm only pointing out the fact some players may not fancy a move out of their "comfort zone".

Say for example Bradford, York, Northampton, Bury whoever came in for Tavernier along with us, what would be more a more beneficial move for him?

Probably isn't the "Premier League" RB right back anyway!

Pleased to see that 3 of the positions I'd considered key to being filled are about to be. And also, being the defensive players could be crucial as it will give them all of pre-season to gel into a decent unit. As the old adage goes, if you keep a clean sheet you can't lose!

Hopefully the centre-back will be Saah - it seems where the smart money is going and would tick all the boxes. No ideas for who the keeper is, or the full-back. I just hope that the full back is first choice and not brought in as cover. I don't think that any one of Mansell, Roberston or Oastler should be any more than a short-term solution.

At least there is movement!

Who's to say Ellis won't be paired with the new experienced CB?

Where would that leave Robbo though?

A footballer's lot involves, er . . . um . . . a lot.

For example : form, loss of form, suspensions, injuries . . . . . .

Two for every position (whether we can afford it in the short/long term) is the forward way.

Part of the character building process is seeing who stays professional and fights for their place and who throws their toys out of the pram and sulks/wants away etc.

"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm" (even though you are crap and wont make it, at least it looks good on a future c.v. to a new prospective employer when your previous one says "enthusiastic in all he does".

Bench?

Just because he was a first choice near the end of last season doesn't mean he will be this one.

Ling might have other ideas!

Tom Cruise is indeed left sided. He had a poor game against us in the cup but I follow Carlisle as a kind of second team so I do know that he put in some decent performances elsewhere during the season.

The This is Devon site confirms that we are in talks with Brian Saah and that Martin Ling is looking to bring in two keepers - one experienced and one less so, as well as a "young Right Back".

I wonder whether he might consider Danny Naisbitt at Cambridge for our No1. He signed him for Cambridge from Histon (where he was a fixture for a few years) and like Saah he has been made available by Cambridge as they can no longer afford either of their wages within their substantially reduced wage structure. As for a young keeper, there are a few young keepers knocking around that might fit the bill such as Lloyd Saxton at Bradford (ex Argyle) or Ollie Chenoweth (released by Argyle) or Matt Armstrong-Ford (Exeter) .

I just hope that we start to se some signatuures on contracts this week.

I see they are reporting Saah is soon to be out of contract. My understanding was that he has another year left.

Yes you're right and they're wrong Rob.

Like you, as I understand it Saah signed a 2 year deal at the beginning of last season (while Ling was still there) but has now been made available on a free as Saah is one of 6 or 7 top earners at Cambridge United who are set to leave as they (CUFC) have introduced a wage ceiling and any player who is currently under contract but over the wage limit has been made available for transfer.

So, should he sign for us (fingers crossed) he will most certainly not be "some non league reject" as some might suggest - he (Saah) is widely regarded as their best player and is club captain - but quite simply they can no longer afford him.
