Your passport is a liar.
The boys done alright tonight, nothing flash, but good enough to make France, who are a better side than us, look very ordinary. I tweeted at half time that the Ukraine looked like they could really hurt us, and I stick by that. Sweden looked their usual slow, ineffective selves, and the Ukraine were the better side, we'll do well to beat them, but we should have too much pace for Sweden.
Matt.

In that respect it could work out to England's benefit that it's Sweden next. If results go right, a draw in the Ukraine match could suit both teams.ferrarilover wrote:Your passport is a liar.

Don't think us England fans can be to upset with that performance or result last night, we do seem to have gone some what ultra defensive under Hodgson, which was the right thing to do for the first group game, against the French , it's game you don't want to lose, however to get through we now need to win a game, so hopefully will come out and attack more.
That said we did have some moments, only if we had some English players who could use both feet, if James one foot Milnercould play with both feet, surely would have won the game, out of the young players thought Chamberlian had a very good game, Wellbeck did ok was allways goign to be difficult fr him, the biggest suprise for me was Joe Hart, easy to forget this is his first major tournament for England as he seems to have been about for a while, but did he have a case of the jitters or what, flapped at a few crosses, seemed to be to far of his near post, and so nearly got caught out, just goes to show what high standards Hart has set, as he fell well below his best in this game.
Quite a lot of England fans have the view this is worst England side for a while, I simply don't agree , and I think that was proved against France, we have a few bright decent young players coming through, and I am glad we picked up so many injuries, we tend to cling on and on to the old guard through the generations, prefering to go wth experience, hodgson has had his hand forced some what, and as said the young players did well.

Looking forward to Germany v Holland tonight especially as the Dutch need something out of it, preferably a win. A German win would see the Dutch all but eliminated. This is the most eagerly anticipated game thus far for me personally and i'm hopeful of it being a cracker. As far as the England team go then i'm not really bothered either way as i'm not an England fan but i do feel they are making slow moves forward in the right direction and once the younger players are bedded in and Downing, Henderson and Walcott are ditched then i feel the future could be quite bright. In terms of the here and now though they've got no chance. Many seem to be forgetting that Sweden AND Ukraine are quite robust units and tricky to play against and these people are already forecasting easy wins and 6 points. Big mistake. I'm sure the England players and Roy certainly won't underestimate the Swedes and Ukrainians even if many of the England fans are. As the for the Irish, they were a bitter disappointment and it's now game over for them which is a shame and the Italians look like a dark horse in the tournament and surprised me the way they played against the Spanish. As for the euphoria surrounding the Russians, IMO as soon as they come up against a side they have to wory about they'll get mullered.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

It's amazing as Greece are heading through as it stands despite being shocking for 2 games whereas Russia have been amazing and are heading out! Mental!

Now confirmed! ...Russia were the dark horses to win too!
Personally I think it's a bit stupid they changed the rule from if points are level the team that goes through will have the best goal difference to the head-to-head record. Better teams over the 3 games would benefit from the goal difference, but now if you turn up in one of your matches you may finish above someone who has played great football, therefore the standard of the latter stages drops.
Still, huge drama in those games. That last ditch headed clearance in the Czech game was monumental!

Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...
I agree with the head to head system, think it the fairest way to decide who goes through, and my reasons are simple, the could have asituation where team A plays team B , team A has 2 men sent off , team B goes on to win 4.0 because of that, team D then beats team B 1.0 and finish level, but team D goes out on goal difference because of what happened in the first match where team B won 4.0 aganst a team with only 9 men, how fair on team D who beat team B would that be.
Russia and Greece finished level, Greece won against Russia, so only right and fair Greece go through, and the subject of Russia, it's their own fault they have not gone through, it does not matter one bit whether they were the best team in that group or not, that group was a gifthorse for Russia possibly the easyest in the competition , no Spain,Italy,Holland,France,Germany, and to a lesser extent England, and few others who have looked useful, how easier did Russia want it.

What`s with the derogatory remark Dave? Jeez can`t even make a joke on here without someone being rude!Southampton Gull wrote:

"and fail to qualify as per usual" We qualified for the last two world cups and nearly made it as far as England in one of them so I don`t understand your point ( attempted put down? ).
