Eunan : Please Stay

This is a call from myself but I also think I will be speaking on behalf of many Torquay Supporters for Eunan to stay.

I cannot see what the attraction of Crawley is, they will be an average league 1 team at best, with generally no tv coverage, no fans and no real incentive. Stay at Torquay for one more year, be part of our promotion push once again (this time with some funds behind us) play infront of the new bristows bench which can only add more atmosphere to the ground, showcase your skills once more at plainmoor, a top of the league team week in week out, score 10 goals or more and I can guarentee you that the season after next you will be playing championship football not league 1. Ive never been this pasionate about a Torquay player since alex russel and jason fowler, both amazing creative midfielders. replacing you would be a hard task, one which we could only afford if you had another brilliant season next and then flourished even more and then joined a championship team

Agreed. We need to get over this obsession with keeping players. We're a small club, and that means that we will *always* be a selling club. I'm ok with that, keeps things interesting. If O'Kane stays it needs to be because he feels that his career will ultimately benefit. A good season with us, maybe a promotion, and he'll be almost certain of a championship club showing interest. I don't know the guy but he seems to be a fairly level-headed guy. The fact that the Crawley deal isn't finalised yet tells me that he's at least thinking about it.

If he stays, great.
If he moves on, good luck, don't score against us in future, let's use the money wisely.

I don't want Eunan to go, but ultimately he wants to further his career, and we all know he possesses the ability to move up. As has been mentioned numerous times elsewhere, from the outside, you'd have to say Crawley is NOT going to be a move that will further his career. sure, he'll be playing in league 1, but i cannot believe he will not get a better offer, from a club that could help him progress and become an even better player. I honestly think he would develop better with us in league 2 than he would in league 1 with crawley.

would be nice to get a definite decision quickly though, so Eunan, ML, and everyone else can move forward for the new season.

175k is not the biggest gamble for a bigger team to take so would hope he has a choice rather than just the 1 option which we all agree does not seem to be the right step for him.

I want him to stay 100% and i honestly do think if he stayed for one more season he would be at a championship club the following season. He will still have that release clause in his contract and if he plays to his best throughout i see no reason why a bigger club than Crawley (who are no bigger than us in reality) will not come in for him.

not even that, crawley as an area is a HOLE! sure your on the skirts of London but still... definetly prefer the english riviera, the name speaks for it's self minus the weather and if Eunan is thinking about his skin tone then theres a much better chance for an Northern Irish lad to get a tan down here rather than crawley..

Like most others on here it seems, I think he should give it another season with us and then move on next summer.

Yes it is a step up in terms of a higher league but whereas with us he is the "main man" I'm not so sure that would necessarily be the case at Crawley. There were plenty of occasions towards the end of last season when his performance levels dropped, probably through tiredness, that other teams/managers would have dropped him and once you're out of a side it can be difficult to force your way back in. At TUFC, the lack of strength in depth meant he was always going to be picked and to be fair Lingy showed complete faith in him throughout the season.

Now, no doubt he will be given plenty of chances at Crawley but he shouldn't forget that he will have plenty of competition for a central midfield slot there given that they have the likes of Torres, Simpson, Bulman, Akpan and probably one or two others I've forgotten. in other words he won't be guaranteed a starting place and a dip in form could well see him out of the side, something I would say is pretty unlikely should he decide to stay with us.

I'm sure Mr O'Driscoll has promised him a starting berth but you never know what might happen and at least in Martin Ling he has a Manager who he knows will continue to build a team around him.

At the end of the day though it really doesn't matter whether it's Crawley he joins or a decent Championship side as their £175k is the same as anyone else's as far as TUFC is concerned. I just think Pythagoras if he bides his time a better option will probably come along. But whatever he decides, I will always wish him well and thank him for what he has given us over the last two and a bit years.

I dont get why people are saying Crawley would be a bad move. Hes got a chance to play a full season at a League 2 or League 1 club. Even if they stuggle next season, be he still shows he can play to the standard we know he can against some big clubs there he will get a lot of clubs after him.

Personaly as a fan i would love him to stay, but for him personaly i would take the step up. Hes been with us for few years now and why not have a crack at league 1. Equally yes i know he could stay and shine for us and get some attention but as a player you want to play against the best players and clubs and there are some massive clubs in league 1. If hes to get paid more for that too then fair play to the guy he deserves it.

Im not to bothered if he stays or goes now, no one player is bigger than the club and if he goes he will leave with our best wishes and will be replaced. Thats football for you. I have full faith that Ling will build a decent squad together with or without him.

I wouldnt begrudge him a move to any decent team where I can forsee him fulfilling his potential but who on earth in there right mind would want to move to Crawley, when infact they can fall just as quickly as theyve risen. Join a team with a bit of history about them, a bigger club, more fans, not someone that in terms of infrastructure is on a par with torquay. I could of seen him in a reading type squad (not now there in the premiership) but definetly a Crystal Palace, not a flipping Crawley.. the brand name speaks for it's self..
