Driving South to all games!
Hmmm, PB has been linked with plenty of jobs in the past, but this one feels different. There is no way that a slashing of the odds of such magnitude as we have seen over the last couple of days (as long as 28/1 with some bookies barely 48 hours ago, popularly quoted at 1/4 now) is in response to market forces (volume and value of bets laid by bookies on this outcome) alone. They must know something, bookmakers always know something. The only crumb of comfort I can take from this is knowing that bookies will often err on the side of caution, especially in a market as unpopular as this, if they get even the slightest inclination that one man is prized above all others. It could be something as daft as VCs having a man outside the Brizzle Rovers ground who saw PB heading into the offices one afternoon. Maybe he was signing a pre-contract deal, maybe he was having a casual chat, hell perhaps he was using the men s room, who knows?
For my money, he's going, but there is no way he will go before the Oxford game (not much of a prediction given the hour), he has too much respect for the club and the board to do that. Tuesday/Wednesday lunchtime at the VERY latest, if he is to leave before the FA Cup match.
On a related and equally precarious subject, if he does go, who, if anyone, do you think he will take with him. It's not the players so much, we all know the two or three that have the ability to step up, but who do you think he would actually take, for real?

On the Rovers forum there is a post mentioning that as yet unlisted with bookies league 1 manager has been approached. Speculation is that it could well be Peter Reid.
I have to say would be hugely pleased if it is!
That sounds a more realistic appointment to me Mav, hopefully that's the decision they will make.
Whilst I think Bucks will get snatched away sooner rather than later I remain to be 100% convinced he'll be off right now, although some seem so sure it makes me wonder.
After the interview today, it's clear that if he's approached, he would be happy to go. You can't fault the job he's done, as not many managers available at the time would have been able to do the same (or would have been mad enough to manage us). The compensation recieved should mean we'd be able to fork out for Trollope or prefferably in my mind, Holdsworth, plus a bit added to the kitty for a striker. With Benyon too likely to go, we're going to need to make that our priority. Akinde anyone?

i was expecting him being off after hereford - but i suppose with a game today he probably didnt want to leave us in the sh*t. a pity with some of the tactics today apparently!

I'm really worried about Bucks leaving. What he has done at this club, and the way he has developed the players has been exceptional. We need to keep most of this brilliant young squad together.
I heard today at the game (so probably no truth in it at all) that Brizzle have offered £80k for Buckle & Benyon. Now don't moan about it too me; I don't know how factual that is, but if that was to happen, I'd be fuming.
We should get atleast £50k for compensation for PB if he went. As for Benyon, he's easily worth a 3-figure fee.
Buckle has done an absolutely fantastic job. He must have found it hard though, as there has always been a minority of fans who don't like him; I'll admit to never being his biggest fan, but you can't begrudge him the excellent work he has done.
The thing that worries me most is not that Buckle himself could go, but the damage he could do to us by taking players with him. O'Kane, Ellis, Benyon, Kee.

You're not alone in your concerns, Nick. But by all accounts, Bristol Rovers don't have much money. They would already be stretching their budget to pay us compensation for Buckle, let alone raid the core of our team. Perhaps Benners could follow him due to his contract expiring in the summer, but I think most fans are resigned to his exit anyway.

If that is true Nick and the club was to except i would be more than fuming,it was pointed out to me at the game today that we as a club have no need to sell Benyon unless a 100k offer came in,as it is likely he will go to play a full part in the first team and will score over 20 goals the club is likely to get around 100k compensation in the summer if he went on a free.
Also i would expect more in the way of compensation for Buckles services aswell.
Yep. Can't see it being true at all, Dave, but I heard it so passed it on.
It's like the situation we'll find ourselves in with players like Ellis and O'Kane.
I might be being biased here, but I'd value Ellis as our only player capable of slotting straight into a Championship side now. And considering his potential, I'd expect us to get potentially, £500k. A fair chunk of it upfront, then a sell on and some other clauses. However, I can't see that happening unless he stays here and becomes the best defender in the division (which, to be fair, he isn't far off from IMO).
As for PB, it depends on how much he is on doesn't it. They'll pay up his contract as the compensation. A while ago I was told that he earnt the same as Colin Lee, but laughed it off. If he is, then we're looking at a fair chunk of compo if he moves on.

Totaly agree on Ellis said earlier on in this thread i believe Ellis is the only player we have capable of moving up a division or two,he is ready made for abuying club, where as Benyon O'kane are nothing more than maybe's,i also said that i believe Bristol Rovers are not flushed with cash right now.
This is why i have allways believed that Buckle as much as he may want the job will not end up Bristol Rovers manager ,if and when they come calling i would expect the compensation price tag to put Rovers off,and i do hope iam not wrong.
Also think that taking the Rovers job at this time in his career would be abig mistake, rovers are not in the best all round position at the moment, and reading through there fans forum Buckles name has hardly set the world on fire with the gasheads.
