very sad to hear that Reg Jenkins, passed away on tuesday, played approx 90games for the gulls in the early/mid 60`s
remember him, as a bustling centre forward, who was transferrred to rochdale where he played for over 9 years,
originally from cornwall i believe.

Sad news indeed, remember him playing with Tommy Northcott just before we signed Robin Stubbs. Reg was a big favorite with the Rochdale fans, RIP Reg.

I was very sad to learn of the death of Reg Jenkins on 29 January 2013, and offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

He was the first player to play league football for all three Devon clubs and I was fortunate to see him play on many occasions between 1962 and 1964. He possessed a fierce left foot shot and scored 23 goals for Torquay in 88 league appearances. It was something of a shock when he left to join Rochdale in 1964, but he proved a great success for his new club scoring 119 goals in 305 league games and finishing top of a poll to find the Dale's greatest ever player.

In 2007, the Manchester Evening News published an excellent article on Reg Jenkins, which I attach to this post.

Yes - very sad that Reg Jenkins has passed away. A great favourite with us lads who used to pack the old Cow Shed (where the Family Stand is now) and as has already been said, went on to be a Rochdale legend. Thanks Teignmouth54 for the interesting Manchester Evening News link. Didn't know that he returned to the Plymouth area after football retirement.
