Torquay United v Fleetwood Town - 9/2/12

Post by AustrianAndyGull »

This matchday thread is possibly going to be the worst ever as i'm so ill it's unbelievable and can hardly lift my head up off the pillow. :'(

My little un has been sick all night and i've been covered. :Z so the moral of the story is, don't have kids as they fetch in all sorts of viruses from nursery and you'll ALWAYS get them.

Fleetwood drew 2-2 at home to Bradford last time and are sitting just off the play offs. They are a strong unit and have some quality players. Graham Alexander is now manager after Mick Mellon was bizarrely sacked earlier on in the season.

I think they will try and bully us but we'll nick a draw 1-1.

Anyone know if Howe is out for this and if not, does he get a 3 game ban or a 1 game ban?

Cheers all, very sorry for the abject nature and quality of this thread but i really do feel like sh#t. I would have left it a few days and done it properly if i felt better then but knowing me i won't start getting better until the end of the week as always happens. Sorry all. I'll be back with the usual for Rochdale.

Now, must go and clean up that child sick. Where's the hoover.......................
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

2 match ban for Howe.

Fleetwood aren't in the best form under Graham Alexander, but we would have more attacking threat if I played upfront, so I think away win.

Niether Jarvis or Yoeman to me can even come close to playing as a loan front man, if no loan replacment can be signed in time, surely 4-4-2 will be the way forward, and I mean 2 upfront together and not one in behind.

The state of our pitch and the fact we are struggling far more to play decent football this year means we need a big target up top so I would hope we will bring someone in because we do not have that option in the squad without Rene.

Is Zeb still a free agent? Could do a job right now!

Do not dissagree with you Rich, the pitch is in a state, however we recently saw Exeter have no problem play a very good passing game and largely kept the ball on the deck though out the game on our pitch. we can do do it aswell.

Exactly, Exeter passed the ball on it. Its just that we only have a handful who can do it!!

As for the striking options for the next two games then expect Ling to register Richard Logan.

Greetings Gulls :) , a few of us travelling down from up North at the weekend and making a few days of it. Any recommendations on any decent watering holes and socialising venues for a night out? Read various mixed reviews of Torquay, but surely the place can't be too bad! :~D

Good news for us that your main goal threat will be suspended, but I'm sure it'll still be a close game. Although our results have looked quite indifferent, and nothing too special at times, we are playing well most of the time, and have definitely improved under the new Gaffer.

If anyone fancies a bit of friendly, pre-match banter, feel free to pop along to the Indy forum and say hi. :-D

Cheers JT, if you have improved further under Alexander then i revise my prediction. We'll lose. :'(

I'm from oop north like yourself so i'll let my fellow Devonshire couterparts fill you in on the best places to go around Torquay. There is our Boots and Laces bar at Plainmoor.

Boots & Laces is your best shout.

As for a night out, the harbour seems to be the best place, few clubs around there.

Just looked at the league table and Fleetwood have the second best defensive record in the division.

As it happens the team with the best record are Gillingham and we put two past them so there is hope.

Can we do that again but without Rene?

Well, he didn't score against them when we won, so there is hope :)

... but a very quick scan of the forum match reports for that game sees Ren described as 'quality', 'awesome' and 'fantastic', amongst other things.

As much as I'd love to see it, can't quite envisage Logie getting such plaudits in his first outing.

Right then lads and lasses, this is it. The day of the game and with Rene being out and looking like Joe is out too it doesn't bode well for us as we know. If Leadbitter plays then it might actually be a benefit as we can use his pace both in defence and in attack to hopefully get forward a bit. I feel we need to take the game to Fleetwood rather than sit on our hands and give them the office as it were. They have monster striker THE BEAST JON PARKIN as well as new signing JAMILLE MATT as well as STEVEN GILLESPIE and other attacking options so i reckon in this attack them and give them something to think about. I don't want to come on here after the game hearing that Yeoman ( if selected ) and Jarvis didn't get a chance to show what they could do as they didn't get the ball. We need to get the ball up to them quickly and get players forward quickly, they'll hit us on the break as to be expected and hopefully Saah, Downes, Pokey, Nico and the rest can be up to standing firm. I'd rather that than just hold out from minute 1 to see if we can get a point. We need to use Jarvo and Yeoman ( if selected ) and not isolate them or make them run around chasing lost causes.

Fleetwood will know there will not be a better time to play us this season and they will have studied DVDS of our home games. We need to get at them from the off, put them on the back foot and not give them a chance to settle otherwise it could be another afternoon of predictability and disappointment having let another game slip by where we didn't do ourselves justice.

I think Fleetwood will win but my heart reckons we could nick a draw 1-1. Get behind the lads today everyone, avoid the 'meat' pies and have hay instead and us at home will be hoping that Bix isn't on the pop again this afternoon as we need his running commentary throughout the afternoon.

COYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
