Not as much as many of you, but in my life ive spent thousands of pounds and miles travelling to watch the Gulls, and never thought Id be in a position where the team are playing 3 miles away and I don't want to go. Sad times!
alright, I changed my mind, went to the pub first to get pissed, and went to the game, and fell in love a little bit with the club again. Excellent second half, and the fans were great. Whatever league we're in next year, Torquay til I die!! (

I said I liked how we were set up offensively, and lo and behold, we score 2 goals and win for the first time in 5 games.

Was at the game today. Another battling performance by all the players and did play some decent stuff on a very bumpy pitch. Don't be under too many illusions though, once again we suffered from not having a goalscorer and never really looked like scoring from open play (Manse's goal had a wicked deflection). Rovers were awful, really awful and just goes to show what a poor league it this year. I still have no doubt that if we had had someone like Harrold up top we'd be in the play offs at least this year.

Rice was solid again, the new left back did fine, Cameron looked good and his crossing was a bit better, Shaq was always a threat (although I preferred him on the wing last week), Harding did okay, Benyon was poor until the last 20 mins when he did some good work. Bodin & Chapple must be bewildered to see Stevens coming on ahead of them!

Great to finally get a win though and give us all some surely false hope. Just makes it even more infuriating that we have not managed to give ourselves a better fighting chance as there are worse teams in this league than us!

Please not Exeter , it would be like Liverpool winning the premiership title at old Trafford. And no I'm not a premiership supporter of either, just making a comparison of what the scenario would be equivalent too.

Its a great win, in my view. However bad Rovers are, they had only lost 4 at home and for a club like us to go to Bristol Rovers - whatever state they are in - we do with an inferiority complex, so to get a win there is decent.

It is also bloody frustrating. Part of me hoped it would all be over today and more than likely now, it will be confirmed when we play Exeter. Hearing that Coulthirst scored and created, so played a part in both goals, shows what we have been missing all season and how narrow the margins have been for us.

Hargreaves is absolutely correct to point out the deficiencies of our forwards being the cause of us in this mess.

Interestingly, particularly for Stefano and his fellow Knill revisionists - Hargreaves has now won as many games in 17 as Knill did in 27 (including cup).

Thoroughly deserved the win today we were the better side, but Rovers were dreadful! I did think that we were going to throw it all away at the very end of the game, not sure where the referee got 5 minutes from! Went absolutely berserk when we scored, it was a foreign sight seeing the ball in the back of the right net. Bloody Torquay United giving us hope but I guarantee we'll get relegated at Exeter.

Good Lord Almighty, Rovers are an abysmal side. If they're better at home than they are away, then Pompey well beat them about 800-0. They have not a single redeeming feature. Their goal was their only meaningful shot all afternoon and that came in the 9716th minute of an indicated 5 added (which was 4 too many).

Referee D'Urso was a bloody joker. The foul count was about 376,000-0 in our favour when we had the first man booked. You couldn't make it up.

Still, classy goal for the second and a decent effort for the first masked (deservedly) a terrible first half which was devoid of any quality whatsoever. Second half was much better from us, possibly because we realised that Rovers wouldn't score even if they got a penalty and we subbed off Rice and replaced him with a dead goldfish. Regardless, as Hector says, today showed that we are about half an inch from being a perfectly decent side in an horrifically poor league.

Specific mention only for Coulthirst again. We all know he's going to make it (possibly even in the PL), but it's worth reiterating just to make the point about how good he was today.

20% of the way there... Stranger things have happened.

Matt.

Also, Rovers, 20,000 all seater stadium?

Great win and full marks to CH for his tactics and team selection. He's had a really tough time as our manager with so many 'experts' on here telling him how to do it but he came good today because he had a team who played for him.
Great credit to Cameron, Coulthirst and Goodwin up front who showed their quality. Also Cargill at left back had a great Football League debut - let's sign him on a season long loan for next season.
Two fantastic goals from Coulthirst and surprise, surprise Mansell gives hope for the great escape!
No matter which league we are in next season CH will do the job!

Hmmmm Coulthirst seems to be the player that we needed two months ago - instead we got O'Brien and Wikinson.
I still worry about Hargreaves for next season though. Who in their right mind would have put Danny Stevens on the pitch when you have either Bodin and Chapple at your disposal?
I fully expect that Hargreaves will sign Stevens at the end of the season.

Good team performance a controled first half with a few signs that we had a chance to win if we kept the disaplin going.
The second half we stepped it up down the slope and our bright youthful strike force got us a goal. Mansel deserve his goal for all the work he put in. Coulthirst was outstanding good to see Goodwin back and as for Benyon not my favourite player but he decided vnot to fall down today and played his part. Well done Chris Hargreaves.
The supporters were tremendous but the ones who are running Rovers down saying they were rubbish are taking away :red: the glory of the players winning. The game could have gone either way near the end but we were the better side. The players have confidense now to go into the Easter programme full guns blazing. :keepie:

I'm not sure if suggesting that "Rovers were rubbish" is "taking away the glory of the players" because the fact of the matter is, Rovers were truly awful. That doesn't mean we weren't any good either, because we were and deserved the victory and played some good attacking football at times and defended well also.

I am disappointed I did not make the journey, but given the previous performances I thought this would be the final coffin nail.
