That looks like it could be the scariest film of the year, I think I had better keep on the right side of trhe missus now!

Anyway -

Iron Man 3 - Now I love me superhero films and most of them have been good, not sure what to think about this one, a bit of a let down, especially after the Avengers. The film just seems a bit forced and pointless, there is great effects, cool action scenes etc, but a weak story and some daft bits. Part of the story seems to have been mugged off from Batman forever or even the incredibles. 7.5/10

Despicable Me 2 - Alright, another unnecessary sequel, weaker than the first one. I know a lot of people wanted more after the first one but this was not as good as the original. The minions are really what people wanted to see more of, but in many ways this film has too much of them. 7.5/10

The Croods - Another animation by the makers of Ice Age, this time about prehistoric man/family, quite good in places, some funny moments, quite clever, will probably have to watch it again. 8/10

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone - A comedy about old fashioned magicians,Las vegas show magicians, then the modern type of stunt, prankster magician. Very stereotypical characters which is what made it quite funny in places, you can see who or what certain parts are based on. A good performance by Steve carrell and a hyped up 100mph turn by a back on form Jim Carrey (cant believe he is 52). The film gets a bit slow in places but is worth a watch if you have are in the mood or if you like this type of humour. 8/10

I saw American Hustle recently and it's tremendous.

Saw that the other day, Leonardo Di Caprio is one of the finest actors out there at present.

Just watched Grudge Match, a surprisingly good and funny film to watch. Sure it has all the usual corny Stallone stuff but was perfectly enjoyable to watch.

Riddick...brilliant, brilliant, watch it (unless you don't like violence, spurty blood, bad language, sexual innuendo and Vin Diesel)

J Edgar - Leonardo Decaprio turns in another fine performance in this biopic based on how J Edgar Hoover founded the FBI. There are many truthful elements to this film but there is much that has been said or written about Hoover which is missing, they could have made this film 5 hours long and it still wouldnt have been long enough.

This is a very good film, Decaprio is a fantastic actor, he continues to show this time and time again recently, but he was even doing that if you go back to when he was a kid in What's eating Gilbert Grape. I used to love Titanic but now find it quite corny as well as being woefully historically inaccurate (some downright blatant lies), however Dicaprios performance even in that film which made him a teeny idol was superb, he and Billy zane were the best things about that film but Kate Winslet got the plaudits and the Oscar nod (probably 'cause she got her baps out).

Anyway, If you like historical biopics you will like J Edgar. 8.5/10

Hitchcock - Set around the time Psycho was made this is a very interesting look into the world of the eccentric director. Not quite sure if Anthony Hopkins was a great choice or not, but Helen mirren puts in a very good turn as Alfreds just as talented but lesser credited wife. There are many rumours Alfie boy was a bit of a perv and a swine towards his leading ladies, there was a BBC film called The Girl which was about that sort of thing, many who knew him have either confirmed or denied this, the film Hitchcock gently touches on this subject then kind of reverses that opinion and makes him seem a gentlemen, possibly it was just eccentricity and being a perfectionist. The film does show Hitchcocks creativity and originality (with a bit of help from the wife) and shows he is a master of suggestion and timing. 8.5/10

Oz The Great And Powerful - A good solid prequel for a change. Visually stunning! The film makes you feel a bit nostalgic but purely because of the original. Not too sure about James Franco as the lead, I like him in some films and in others he just seems a bit lazy with his delivery, he has outstanding moments in this and then in others you kind of feel he needs to go back to stage/acting school. It is an interesting take and it was good to see the Wizard Of Oz origins and how he came about as well as the wicked witches. It is a simple basic story although there are a couple twists, Im not really sure if it is a film that was needed but it was entertaining. It does show that it doesnt matter how big a budget you have, special effects and new shiny stuff, some films no matter how old they are never date and will be timeless, because the Wizard Of Oz although a different type of film is better and will always be more memorable than the modern prequel. 7.5/10

The Lego Movie - Saver Tuesday (1/3 off) and it still cost £14.50 for me and the boy to go and watch this in 3D at our local cinema yesterday (THE VUE, robbing b@stards). However you have to see this at the cinema, visually stunning, very original, fun for all ages, thought provoking at times, great cameo appearances from various characters and an unexpected story. Loved it - 8.5/10

The cost of going to the VUE cinema's is extortionate, nobody will be able to or will be willing to fork out their prices if this continues. £10.55 for a 3D film off peak on a normal day. I worked out last night it would be cheaper for me to drive to Torquay (even with the price of petrol), pay to park ( ditto) and watch fims at the Central cinema in Abbey road rather than walk down to the seafront and watch a flick at my local VUE.

Thanks for these reviews Chunky- wasn't sure how the Lego movie would work but my youngest is keen to see it so based on what you've said will give it a go.
Agree entirely about the cost of the Vue-nearly always go to the Central which is so much cheaper.OK not as comfortable or modern as Vue but perfectly adequate and friendly.
My son got a Vue voucher for Christmas so need to use that sometime but will pay my entrance fee through clenched teeth.

Captain Phillips - to be honest, I really didn't fancy watching it and thought I'd be having a power nap after the first few minutes, but it was an amazing film. Tom Hanks was at his brilliant best, the tension that built up was, um, tense and I didn't move from my seat, not even to get snacks. A must see film :)

This gets on my tits. It's a movie, you know it's a movie, you're told it's a movie, it's on a movie channel, so don't complain when it's not a documentary. I don't complain when stuff on The Discovery Channel doesn't have Bruce Willis or a man shooting down a 747 with a water pistol, because that's not what it's for.
Newsflash: the work of A&E Doctors is treating endless cases of the flu and broken arms, it's **** all like Casualty. Juries mainly find people guilty inside the first 10 minutes of the trial, based on the appearance of the accused, it's **** all like '12 Angry Men'. Being a policeman mainly involves hiding in a bush catching people speeding, it's bugger all like The Bill. If we broadcast historically and factually accurate television programmes, do you know what we end up with? Big Brother. Just some arseholes sitting about doing **** all, Erich is basically all that ever happens to real people. That's precisely what makes movies and television entertaining, it shows a caracature of real life
Two hours of watching a real MI6 field agent would vote to death even a train spotting enthusiast, James Bond, on the other hand...
