This song is going down well in Wisconsin lately thanks to the new dictator in Madison... :@

Also, my youngest has been playing Fantine in the high school production this week which has been super cool :~D :-D

Right, I cannot recommend highly enough the whole album 'The Heroin Diaries'.
It's a couple of years old, but as in all things, I'm a little late to the party.
The band is Sixx AM and it's a side project of Nikki Sixx, bassist for Motley Crüe. The other bandies are D.J. Ashba of Guns 'n' Roses and James Michael, all round music genius.

The album itself accompanies the book of the same name and basically tells the story of a year of Sixx's life between Christmas 1987 and Christmas 1988 (I think, certainly Xmas to Xmas and late 80s). During this period, Sixx kept a diary of events, which included writing, recording, releasing and touring with the Motley Crüe album Girls Girls Girls, a period in which the whole band was heavily involved in using heroin. In late '87, Sixx overdosed and very nearly died, an event which prompted the whole band to quit the drug for good.

As you'd expect for such a subject, the album starts off a bit 'angsty teenager' more metal than rock music, all about wanting to die etc, but don't let that put you off, it soon mellows and the final song, 'Permission' is the best song I have heard this year, proper old skool rock music. There are also three spoken, narrative tracks on the album, which are somewhat haunting, you have been warned.

Those of you of a Planet Rock disposition will doubtless have been delighted by the single from the band's new album. The song is called 'Lies of the Beautiful People' and it carries on where 'Permission' leaves off, musically, rather than chronologically.

All in, a fabulous album, and one which no proper Planet Rock listener should be without.

I shall have to investigate that Matt.
Right now though, courtesy of Planet Rock I'm enjoying Nothing Else Matters by Metallica.

Quite alright, which songs did you find? Oh, and thanks for the Metallica reference above, I shall now have to go to iTunes (ADMIN EDIT...) and get that, damn you!

Well, 'Life is Beautiful' was the big hit, most played rock song on US radio in 2008, it's the opposite end of the story to 'Pernission' which is clear of the best song I have heard this year, absolutely brilliant. 'Lies of the Beautiful People' is from the new album (which also accompanies a book ofthe same name) called 'This is Gonna Hurt' released in the US (and therefore, presumably on all LEGITIMATE download sites) on the 3rd of May.

I think we'll have to get the albums. As soon as I mentioned Nicky Sixx my husband wanted to hear them and he thought they were excellent too.
