Some youngsters love trouble, most don't. Some middle age men (and woman) love trouble, but again, most don't.
Don't chuck us all in that category!

Back to the club, it's been 3 weeks since we had a game at home,we're now almost 2 weeks away from our next home game, this must surely be screwing with the clubs cash flow?
To the dotted line, We're on our way

I've just realised that we haven't played a game this month yet.

Maybe mushroom was right, and we no longer exist, and the pitch was just an easy excuse....

Or maybe that he was also out drinking the night before on the morning of a match - if he was in the squad for Saturday looks to me like he is finished here.

Truth is that things are pretty much the same as when you were growing up and kids are doing pretty much the same things as your generation did and your Grandparents were probably whining at the time about "youngsters love causing trouble".
Theres more drink and drugs in football as players have the money, now a days and I'm not an old git.

Agreed, the scientific developments and sheer amount of money in the game has led to nutritionists, sports scientists etc treating footballers like athletes, and they have far more to lose. As humans they still have vices and weaknesses, but the average football is in far better condition than previous generations.

Young men going out on a Saturday night is one thing though, no-one would deny them that. The evening before a game, and getting into trouble, is another matter altogether, which is why Nicholson now has a problem to deal with.

There most definitely is not more drink in football these days. I would also say that youngsters go out drinking a lot less today than I did 10-15 years ago, because they are all inside on their bloody computers!!

And if you went up The Three Lions in Bristol, near Ashton Gate, you certainly wouldn't think it's the youngsters who are the trouble makers, the 40/50 plus numbskulls in there are a disgrace. I went in there once, never again!!

No doubt Nico will be his own man regarding how to handle discipline (and make things stick) but, if he wants to see how one predecessor did it, he could have a quiet read of pages 89 to 91 in Frank O'Farrell's autobiography!

Perhaps your right when you think of all the older players with drink problems.

Agreed, I see more trouble coming from the 40-60 year olds down my local than from the 18 year olds.

There are a plenitude of cretinous buffoons from all age groups, not just the teenagers.

Lets alliterate then, Cambgull; a plenitude, a plethora, plenty, or even a plenum! I'm well over 60 so I can have fun without being in that specific catchment group.

Seriously though, in the Times I read today that a 'City' solicitor (Chelsea supporter) has been sacked by his firm for calling Liverpool fans 'Scouse scum'. I agree with the sentiment in your last sentence.

Brought this thread back up to save writing a new one.

Since the postponement of this game Wrexham have gained 2 very good wins over Gateshead and Aldershot, however saw a run of 4 straight wins and 5 games unbeaten come to an end Saturday with a 2.3 home defeat at the hands of Macclesfield, Wrexham who had risen to high point of 2nd place in the table earlier in the season, now sit 8th on 37 points.

Wrexham manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio Wales: "We've been winning games of late and now we know the feeling of what it is to lose again and it's not nice.

"I thought we deserved something out of it and it didn't quite happen for us. Fair play to Macclesfield they've come here and played well and made it difficult for us.

"But these things happen and we'll go again next week."

From a Torquay point of view

Marsh should be available again after selection, personally hoping he's restored to the line up, as a club we do not have the time for ego's, nor do we have the time for our manager to stick a player into the naughty corner, Marsh is a potential match winner, we need him in the team.

As fans we've been rightly critical of some pathetic defending seen from our team in the last few games, we asked for the team to tighten up and cut out the mistakes, well we can't ask more than a clean sheet so well done all for that, but draws are no good to us now, we must win games end of, starting Saturday.

Player-manager on a battling display...

TORQUAY United player-manager, Kevin Nicholson, was pleased with the work-rate of his team as we came away from Braintree Town with a point from a goalless draw.

“We showed our character today, “ he said. “The lads gave everything they had to make sure that we didn’t concede.

“I am proud of what we did out there on an awkward surface and in difficult conditions.

“We’ve blocked, harried and been nasty; it certainly wasn’t one for the purists but we’ve had to do what was required to get something out of the game.

“Braintree started well and we had to dig in and be ugly, but once we did that, our belief began to grow and we were at it.

“The lads are prepared to put themselves on the line to get us to where we want to be. We have worked hard this week on the basics of defending as a team and we know that if we can weather this storm, we’ll come out at the other side better for it.

“My players have set a benchmark for how hard they have to work. We’ll take the point and the clean sheet and be ready to go again next weekend.

“Everyone did their job but I thought that young Andre Wright in particular worked his socks off. The only thing missing for him was that one chance to turn the draw into a victory.”

Well, as I said last week, I hope Carmichael is in. If he's injured, fair enough - he may only make the subs. But if he's ready to play, why have him on loan just to warm the bench?

Like Fairhurst, after a few months out injured, it will probably take a while to get back to full match fitness. Hopefully with another week of training they can each play a big on Saturday.

It'd be good to have Butler, Richards, Carmichael, Verma, Fairhurst, Marsh and Wright plus the others competing for the front six spots rather than just playing whoever's fit.
